Mk4 fiesta ICE Issues

Postby ewen16 on Thu Jan 20, 2011 12:01 am

So i haven't had much luck when it comes to audio in my car.

1) fitted my sub woofer (being a total idiot put the ground cable to the battery negative) worked for a month then 1 day a fuse blew on the sub (FLI 1000W Active 12") put new fuse in worked for a while then blew in this time the sub would fade in and out. now does not work at all completely took out all wiring and have left it. after talking to a few people many have said the problem is faulty wiring and that new wires will fix the problem no crimps where used etc. is this right? or is my sub wrecked?
2) tried to fit new front speakers (alpine Type e) but the holes are in the wrong place is drilling the answer? what do i need etc? also the speaker on the door side that i disconect but put back in stop and starts depending on how a drive?!?
3) have new 6x9s on the back parcel shelf need to wire in whats the easiest way? (vibe 529w black air) and do i need a amp for them?
4) for a while the front speakers would not work unless i pulled the whole head unit out and then back in but this has stopped now

thank you for your patience as you may have noticed i am complete novice but i really want to learn!

many thanks Ewen Thomas

sound sliek you have been shopping at halfords mate

the 6x9s will need wiring in chances are you dont have the wiring for the rear speakers, few mk4s did, mainly the ghia

run the wires from the back of the head units wiring, back should be purple and green wires (pair for each colour)

for th front speakers, you can buy adapter plates from autoleads, try halfords or cheaper if you go to ebay and get them, will need 13cm fiesta speaker adapters

as for the sub, try new wiring first, its much cheaper than a new sub, wire the earth to a good earth point in the boot, either the rear lights bolts or theres actually earth points in the boot on the slam panel

if that doesnt solve it sounds like its the amp thats knackered, make sure you have an inline fuse on the powersupply cable

as above, and if ur sneakey, go down halfords n get them to test it, saying its a new amp u baught ,, then if it dunt work, kick off and say theyve blown it, and you want anotehr in replacement,, ( new amp in your hands and your old one fixed ) = result :P

chances are, the sub was trying to draw too much current,, if your going to run new wires down, get a decent guage of power cable,, nothing worse then them spagetti sized power cables u get with the starter packs,,

obviously conectors are better than twisting. celotaping wires,, so get a box fo conectors and a crimper,,

npow i always feed the power in from behind th back of the fuse box,, using the ruber gromet then lay it down the drivers side of the iner sills under the interior sill cover,, i run my phono leadss down the middle of the car, and my amp wire down the passanger side,,

the earth should be able to find a nice location for a self tapper inside behind the covers for the strut tops,, rather than back to the battery,, scrub the paintworkk back to bare metal to ensure u get a perfect metal on metal conection,,

the 6x9s,, personaly i hate them,, but realisticly, it all depends how uve got your car set up,, i have 1x4ch for my front and rear componants, and 1x 4ch for my 2 10" subs,,

if youve only got a sub on an amp and the other componants running through the head unit,, ied stick the 6x9s on the wire through to the head unit, which is again means of feeding speaker wire down eitehr side or which ever way to the head unit,,

Get a 4 CH amp and amp all 4 speakers, get good front speakers too. I'd rewire the Sub. closest place to ground you can. (Short ground cable)
