Mk4 Silvertop Zetec 16v -- aim is 140bhp, 2.0 cams in!

Postby jonyb4 on Sun Jan 18, 2009 11:00 pm

my first car was a mk3 1.1, was my little baby but i got bored of the lack of power and i had a dream of having a car that could do atleast 100mph plus it has a few problems, the door wouldnt shut some times, and the rust was quite bad here and there
Image
so it was sold for £250 which is the same price i payed for it :)

next car was my 1.6 si was recommended by tweek, could not complain i loved it to bits
Image

but unfortunatly i had a crash in it, the rear tyres were partly bald and i was going to fast around a wet bend and i lost control of the back end it hit a fence on a mountain road and ended up balanced off a cliff so im lucky to be alive
Image

here is my mk4 fiesta, its powered by a 1.3l endura-e engine which is a HCS but has multi-point fuel injection

Image

Image

Image

i bought it at the end of last november locally for £300, but as many it had a catch it had no mot which ran out a month earlier, at first we thought it only needed a new or just repair the exhaust since it was blowing and a new tyre.

but it was the tip of the ice berg, i took it to he workshop in college and as i was rolling in someone told me the exhaust was hanging off, i thought crap it cant be, had a look the mid section had completely rusted away and come apart formt he downpipe, so it needed a new mid system and back box that cost £90, then when i was checking the conditions of the brakes someone noticed that the passenger coil spring had snapped that was £20 from a scrappy came on the strut.

the brakes needed doing all round discs, pads and shoes, but since the si was lying around for spare parts i took the bigger ventelated discs and the calipers, the discs and pads were only a month or two old anyway while they were off i thought it be a good time to repaint them since the paint was a bit run down

before
Image

then after the new paint
Image

fitted
Image

then all the tyres needed doing that didnt cost me since i have a mate with plenty of spares was just a £10 to have them fitted.

then it passed the MOT easy no warnings, a few weeks down the line the clutch started to slip when i put the power down after about a week it had gone fully when i was going down the motorway, lol the faces on the kids when i was passing the playground near my house reving the arse off it in second and only going 10mph lol, so that was then booked in for a new clutch but when it was waiting for my clutch it was in my garage
Image

thats when i decided to do the brakes which i mentioned above thats when i took the time to clean the car up, so i had fitted my cd player from the si and the speakers into my parcel shelf and my door speakers, i also cleaned my engine bay up with this pink stuff we have i aint a clue what it is but its good at its job lol

Image
i accually think that pic is a before shot lol didnt take a after shot :( ah well

the clutch job ended up costing me £258 :o was annoyed but happy i got my car back with a nice new uprated pair of brakes a new clutch and nice new sound system i was a happy chappy

a few days later i was looking for something to do, so i decided to put the seats fromt he si into the mk4, they went in no prob but the mk4 seats have a seatbelt tentioner for saftey in a crash which the si seats do not, now i get a intermittent light on my dash flashing all the time the ignition is on :( i dont notice it anymore but i was anoyign at the time but a price for comfort im willing to pay

i then decided that since i have a big bore exhaust that cam with the si lying around my garage that i will see if it would fit and what it would be like on the car
so i got to work
Image

Image

Image

yes i know that it is a really chavvy exhaust but i was interested to see what kinda tune i can get fromt he car, it did sound nice but the exhaust even after some tailering didnt fit right the mounts were way off and after driving around for a few days with it on it was knocking badly so it was time for it to come off

at the moment its got a longlife SS stip on it which is a bit too big but looks better than a standard pipe so its been welded to the backbox

my plan for the fiesta are:

i would like to have my old aloys from my si fitted with new rubbers and put on the car, but im still deciding wether to paint them black first though
once done should look ssomething like this
Image

but im still waiting for a photoshop of what it could look like done black on my car

i would like to debadge the car i know not a big job but i aint got round to it yet

i would like to colour code the mirrors, the roof rack strips on the roof too but i still need to get the colour code and go to my local motor factors

i would also like to get some red cold cathodes for the boot and foot wells, im a little worried since red lights dont tend to be as bright as the blue ones ive been using well thats what i think anyway, if anyway has any pics of a red cathode light in their car please put a pic up :)

id also like to paint the plastic strip around the speedo and air vents silver like in the mk5 black and i think the puma

Finally got one started, well done
Quite a journey with your car then lol and that Si looked so nice, shame about the accident

If the mk4 was mine then I would definitely colour code bumpers and mirrors, clear or smoked rear lights and mesh the front grill, personally I would leave the alloys silver and don't colour code the roof strips - need to keep some black in the car :)

yea thanks man, i might just put the alloys on they look good in that pic, thats what i forgot to write

id like to have a mesh in the grill not the standard one with the badge seems easy enough job just cut out all the plastic strips it has and replace with some black meshing

id also like to keep a red and black theme to the car so red and black things only! :) so i doubt the clear rears

I take it the radiant red is for the vents inside? If you're doing any outside spraying just double check that it is a radiant red car, I only said it was because it looked like mine - check to be sure!! Also when you colour code your mirrors - don't spray the base plates, if you have a can of black lying around then redo them so they look as fresh as the mirrors ;)

Also looking at the car again I think the front of the car could do with a nice black sun strip as it looks so boring lol ;)

ok heres the pic of it now black, ive found out that the paint is now nice and dry on it and is holding much better so ill take it off tomorrow and give it another two coats to lock it in ill also tint some of the chrome bits int he headlights while im at it soo the black and red theme is truely underway :)

Image

also ive now got a 1984 escort estate in my garage with a very similar engine the 1.3 crossflow apperently, i think it looks basicly the same as my endura/HCS lol but heres some pics of the baby personally i think shes gorgous id buy it if it were in better nick and if i had some money lol

they said it is an ex police car and that they have done something tot he engine to make it perform much better :O no idea what since ppl swear that the hcs isnt tunable, its got these zips int he roof lining from when it was in the force lol

the reason its in our garage is my dads mate wants him to get the engine up and runnign again and i will be halping him, since the engine is more or less the same i can get some practice for my own engine if i ever need it :)
