a nice snowy pic from up the bolch not too far from me

heres the dash now completely red illumination

Image

and the big one:

before, first time it aint had a spoiler on since FiTP
Image
Image
Image

now on the new boot, connecting the demister
Image

the multi pins
Image

drilling for the spoiler under the caps
Image

once bolted up to the car, put the plugged washer hose back in but its inactive, better than a hole there
Image

fitted the boot release, had a little problem where it didnt work right, something wrong with the wiring, so now ive run the power through the boot pins and added a better earth, since its painted and had a poor earth
Image

and then the latch
Image

the result :) well if i were to keep the spoiler off :P
Image
Image

by the time i got the spoiler bolted on it was too dark to take a pic

merry christmas all

jonyb4 :lol i know its gonna be a mission lol, but for the 2.0l thing, its just done too often, 2.0l si here and there

so you are going to fit the lesser powered, costs about the same to buy, looks almost exactly the same and is exactly the same amount of hassle to fit 1.8 over a 2ltr?? Just to be different??? Madness

Boot looks good thou.

well theres a few more niggly things like the sump, flywheel and oil filter, you can get the same kinda bhp figures at lower end scales if you follow, like with spending little money, like they both can have 130 bhp on standard parts

and the fact this deal popped up and was to good to be true lol, if it were a 2.0l id have gotten that one lol

umm no i dont sorry, basicly after you have used a hack saw blade or a jigsaw (what i used) to cut the slats out, bend the mesh wire over the surround and normally it stays still, but since mines almost a year old now its lost its structure a bit and bends in the middle, i did try to use double sided pads but they dont hodl it too well lol

how the car looks in light with spoiler on
Image

some progress today, my engine arrive
by the ebay seller, cost £30 for delievery
according to andy/aw3k, it could be out of the GTi as the exhaust manifold lacks the egr valves, and it could even be the 130spec :aviator:

ill let the pics do the talking

Image

Image

as you can see the car had A/C
Image

suprisingly clean under here, apart from theres water in where the plugs are
Image

so started to soak it up using good old bounty :Q
Image

cams look good, no unusual wear or heatspots
Image

i then started to strip the engine down
Image

Image

once off witht he manifold, then removed the gasket
Image

most will wonder where the missing lead has gone, well i pulled the lead otuof the cap as it was vaccumed in by the water, ive been todl the 1.6 si ones will fit and work fine, luckly i still have mine from my old si
Image

Image

is these not the best rocker badge ever? so good looking :Q
Image

as it stands now
Image

Image

"1.8" cast on block

video of engine turning, was nice and solid at tdc so im happy theres compression there
http://s521.photobucket.com/albums/w332/jonyb4/?action=view&current=Video0021.flv

the engine also come with the running gear, so brakes (240mm), suspension, both half shafts, cross memeber and PAS rack and piping

anyone need any of this let me know, can do them ultra cheap :)
discs are a little past it

tomorrow gotta drop oil, remove filter and gife it a good "GUNK" clean and pressure wash, lol remidn me to gaffer tape the ports :P

Get a wire brush or wheel drill attatchment to clean it up, dry it off and it'll all be fine.

Still not sure on that bootlid though.

Yeah, I'd be carfull with the plugs. Leave them to soak in somthing over night before trying to remove them

All 1.8 mk6 escorts were 115s. I would think that inlet will fit your car fine.

will you be able to use the ecu? or is there pats involved? maybe a rs1800 ecu and loom?

re the plugs etc, just soak them up as said above, do your best to clear the gunk and water out, and then when its all done and running drop the hot oil out after a 10 - 15min run up, that'll clear the crap out. You can get suitable oil for £7, tesco value.

hmm so leave this oil currently in it now and do the oil change after the converion?

filter will be a pain but yea ok

im really preying i dont let anything fall in one of the cylinders or ill have to be off with the head :(

umm yea theres pats involved, do i HAVE to use a fiesta si 1.6 engine loom? or can i stick with the escort one i already have?

and with the pats i was thinking my mate has just done a puma converion to his mk4 and took the car and ecu to fords and they mated the key with the ecu, either making new keys or something like that :oooh: :-?

change the oil and the filter for dirt cheap stuff, run it for 15 mins and drop it out and change filter again. That'll clear most of the crap. What are you worried about dropping in there? If its just gunk then i wouldnt worry tbh, the above will sort it.

You can mate your keys to the ecu yourself if you have the red key for the new ecu. You can use either loom really although the si pats is different and no use to you as you will have to add the pats wires yourself. Choose which ever one suits your engine bay more (possibly escort loom as the ecu is in a simliar position).

Re: My fiesta

Postby jonyb4 on Tue Dec 29, 2009 10:18 pm

so ill need the master red key from the escort the engine/ecu come out of?

if i cant get it does that mean i will be forced to disable my pats?
if so, i guess ill have to buy a new alarm system, if so id best start the saving lol, the cheaper the better but with a reasonable saftey system

umm as for the oil changing, do i have to do the filter too? i know its a great cause for prelonging, but buying oil and filter twice is expensive,

cheers for the input lads much appreciated

i futher more stripped the engine today, im very glad to report the spark plugs come out with no issues at all, they aint even in that bad condition, also the oil (after removing the oil breather was actually very clean, still golden infact, signs report to a recent engine service

the plugs were still sitting in a pool of rust water, so blew all that out using my air compressor, which i just found out today after struggling for a few days that i can adjust the pressure :bonkers:
i then cleaned with a sheet of kitchen roll the resedue and nice and clean, although the cams did get a bit dirty :oooh:

anyway, on with the stripping:

started by taking a referance pic of the aux belt pattern just incase :aviator:
Image

some moments later
Image

after removing the cam belt cover i realised the cam belt is also reasonably new, haynes manual suggests every 60,000 miles a renewal is due, this engine is on 73,000 so its safe to say i think its good for the time being, good since i can use the £60 on other things now
Image

started to give the block and sump a little once over with vht satin black paint, using a aerosol, kidna as a primer really, so stuffed all the vitals, and removed the oil breather, thermostat housing and coil pack
Image

then once it was done
Image

Image

Image

didnt mean to paint the front of the head

rocker cover is at the cleanest state in a few months atleast :) all will be either sand blasted, or ill settle for a pressure wash and painting with some brush on vht, still tryign to find some decent stuff

will the sump be ok if i paint it with some normal hammerite? dont wanna buy some silver AND black vht paint if i can get away with only one :) got tons of silver left

i then also got started wirebrushing the exhaust manifold and then with some painting, id also like this silver, so maybe have to buy some silver vht after all
Image
Image
Image

thats all for today :)

Cleaned up well :) As for the cam belt, take the lower cover off and make sure the idler pulleys have been replaced. These are the biggest killer on a Zetec and most people only change the belt & tensioner!

dont see the point on a unworked 1.8 zetec tbh, you can buy another engine for less than the cost of a cambelt kit, hence why the trackcar has not had one, if it goes its 2ltr o'clock

re the oil, yes of course you need to change the oil filter, the idea of that first rinse thru is to help clear the engine of the crud and water, it will cost £5 for the filter and £7 for the oil, then £25 ish for decent oil and filter.
