Mk4 Silvertop Zetec 16v -- aim is 140bhp, 2.0 cams in!
Re: My fiesta
oh i get you, well thats the good thing, most the parts id use on this will be able to fit onto a 2.0l anyway so i aint losing much, mind if i done something like say a pair of uprated cams, then thats a different story
but can always sell stuff like that
thanks for the concern though mate

Re: My fiesta
ok a very tiny update but none the less, was worth a photo
went down to the robbing baxtered at halfrauds to puck up some brush on vht as my local factor dont do any brush on's
i choose red, strangely enough was £1 more! at £6.99
so back at the garage:
before
after 1 coat
shall do one more tomorrow, both sides of the block ofcourse, ill leave the sump black
also ive decided on a rocker cover colour, or colours i should say
im goign to spray the whole thing in graphite grey then detailing like the ford and II 16v Zetec in red, then laquer the whole thing, i may also do the line indents in red too, but dont wanna go over board
a little thing thats been on my mind is wether or not to convert to Power steering, its not too bad without it (only being the driver in the car atleast) its better if anything in this situation
but it wil be free to fit as i have got the parts, will feel better when parking or carring passengers, and will up the whole value of the car
but the engine will loose "some" power and ill lose my "pure" feel when cornering
whats peoples thoughts?

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 1.8 16v
ok finishing off today with the rest of painting done, excuse the hour, but was a bit awake around midnight
ok now first off i painted the crank pully and water pump pully white, then while waiting for them to dry i thought it try painting the back of the pully on the water pump red, then some dripped on the crank pully so i tryed to blend it in, and ended with a right mess!
meanwhile i had painted the rocker cover, and detailed the text on it, also this was a bit of a mess, with the paint going onto the background a little, ill do my best to clean this up tomorrow
the fridge i paint things on has seen more colours than a tv screen
unhappy with this i let them dry a bit and once again returned to try and rectify what the mess i created on the pullies
and now started to put the engine back together

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 1.8 16v
noticed this when i was stripping it, somekind of pipe connector was broken
the little one just above the main water inlet pipe
luckily i still have the thermostat housing off my si
so swapped the parts over
this little fella was sitting inside, nice that i have a spare incase mine goes
all done, i also have now put my si HT leads on as i broke one of the escort ones it come on, plus they were red, these are black and more subtle
then decided to unveil the bag holding al dredded loom
yep not something im looking forward too lol
and my box of the valuable bits
can anyone give me some advice on this loom? i aint a clue, i also think that alot of the interior loom is in there, even parts of the door wiring like the electric windows, i dont know, some are also chopped so that will be a royal pain
ill take some clearer pics soon and try my best to piece things together
all for now

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 1.8 16v
The issue is the mk4 loom isnt as straight forward as the si loom. Theres 2 fuse boxes with everything going through them as opposed to the sperate engine loom on the si with a connector with the feeds.
One way as a simple fix may be to use the si loom and mount the ecu in the engine bay rather than in the car? Then you will have to trace the feeds you need from the bay fuse box and wire them into the si loom. Some feeds though will be in the interior loom/ fuse box so you will have to take them in.
If you want to put the ecu inside you have 40+ wires to splice through the fuse box using the connections gained removing the original engine wires.

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 1.8 16v
ok took a little trip to west wales today to see lucasdemoley and the 2.0 si he is breaking
icy roads covered in snow, 30mph was on the agenda lol
needed a piss, so thought it be a good time for a better pic of the back end
( never eat yellow snow )
handy "backlight" feature on my phone my first shot at this angle was dark
after abotu an hour or so of hacking, chopping and tugging, the mounting plate for the rear zetec mount come apart form the chassis, the poor fez lost a wing and front lower valance in the process
hats off to lucas, top bloke let me come away with a car full of parts for a very generous price including:
front and rear engine mounts
mid section 1.6 si exhaust
Power steering pump and pully bracket, and a fair bit of piping to suit
injector plate, likely 1.6 si part ill have to comfirm this though
cast inlet manifold 1.6 si item (for now)
sturdy mounted 2.0 throttle body
1.6 si radiator and some piping to suit, i still have a fair few pipes from my si
the zetec mounting plate for the rear mount, with some excess wing still attatched
and all the niggly pipes etc, including a heat shield, Pas resevior, pas radiator and a few others
ok now i gotta get this green mk3 ready for the mot and sort them rear brakes, and book it in, kick it out of the garage and get the mk4 in

He he! I hadn't driven that tractor for like 2 years, so thought I was going to reverse/ slide into you!
Did you go straight accross the cross roads by the caravan park in the end on the way home? That road was completely white!

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

Lol @ the vid! Top work mate, interesting to see a "traditional" Zetec going into a MK4 as apposed to the "Puma" Zetec transplants that have been done in the past
Looms are a mind F*ck sometimes and there's nothing else for it but some quiet space to think it through, decent wiring diagrams and plenty of patience!

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 1.8 16v
well your going to need to some research,
both wiring diagrams and get on with it
its not an easy or quick job to do
so my point is, enjoy your car as it still works,
then when you think its ready
change the engine over and go from there
otherwise your car will be off the road for far longer than it needs to be

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
I'd use an Si engine loom with a 115PS ECU that doesn't use PATS.
I don't know if your MK4 car loom uses an external PATS or whether it's part of your ECU?
I'm sure some, if not all, of the Escort 115PS ECUs have internal PATS, in which case it might be a bit of a nightmare. If yours has PATS, then if you get an early Mondeo 1.8 ECU you should be OK, think they're usually called 'BLOB'. Should work with an Si engine loom fine then. Connecting it up to your car loom shouldn't be too hard, but I could be wrong! My impression of the MK4 car loom may be far more simple than it really is

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
aye cheers for that mate
and on your last note, something to consider is its the 1.3 hcs engine
we all know theyre not very advanced or sophisticated, so apart from its a closed loop ecu oom, it should have extensive sensors and stuff the zetec se engines would, also it is the base model so no Air conditioning to worryed abotu or similar
if i can save the pats, great, if not ill try the mondeo ecy you mentioned, failing that ill try to disable it and look to buy an aftermarket alarm system
also, i think i will try and umake use of this escort loom first, i know it seems ignorant, but it seems to be all there and not so different to the mk4's
i will take a better look at my 1.3 loom to compair them and if its too different and i cant make it work, then i shall get the si loom, basicly if i can save the money, i will
but yet again its only £25
