Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
As regards to the wiring, the zetec management from the Fiesta is a standalone unit, the escort may be similar too. When removing your hcs engine, try and find the big mulit plug that separates the engine wiring from the bulkhead wiring, then you need to find out what colour wires do what.

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
There is no big multiplug, it goes directly to the fusebox. You should investigate the fuse box. I seem to remember if you take it out there is a massive hole underneith where you could take the escort ecu plug through. If there is then using the escort loom will probably be better as the ecu is in the same position

ok update on the engine loom, its looking very horrifing so far
ill let the pics take over
the injector connectos had a plastic cover over some, so had to remove it and tape up the wires:

Lol I recognise all those bits fourth pic up!
What bits do you still have to connect bud? When I did my engine conversion I connected up the fuel injectors wrong, with one of them on the PAS sensor ect, which is quite easily done.

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
almost everything has been gathered now,
picked up last of the (hopefully) PAS piping today, the one with the sensor on it, also lucas kindly threw in a inlet gasket too , anoyingly ive already ordered one but meh, nice to have a spare? both ford parts too
but when i got home, i found that i had one of these pipes already attached to my mk4 pas steering rack, mind on the mk4 it doesnt go over the top like on a mk3 zetec, it goes under the left of the engine, the sensor plugs look similar
got some gaskets, rocker cover, inlet x2, exhaust and inlet studs x8 and a auxiliery belt coming tomorrow all genuine ford parts
the engine loom from a si is on its way in the post thanks to Steveboy
then thats everything, as far as im aware, im sure somethign else will pop up
ive also got a K&N "banana" 57i induction kit coming tomorrow thanks to RS Rob
this arrived friday,
its either the RS turbo part or RS1800, was told its the RST but i was under the impression they had the RS turbo logo embossed on the centr cap, and theyre grey and black?
non the less its an RS leather steering wheel, but painfully it wont fit on due to the locking "cog's" being a different size, compaired to my old wheel the mk4 item is much larger, so it wont lock when parked.
anyone know of a remedy for this?
i was thinking of swapping my lock for a mk3 item?
well for the conversion, it will be started on thursday, 1.3 HCS engine out, and 1.8 Zetec going in
i know some wanted a full parts list and costs etc, so ill do a good picture count before it goes in, probs while im replacing the gaskets
the green mk3 is going in for its mot tomorrow, may pass or ill get a few more things to rectify, im not sure lol, but all on my failure sheet is done

The wheel is from a XR2i 16v or early RS1800
FRST wheels were grey leather and had 'turbo' on the centre cap.

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
aye thought rst's were grey and black centred, must be a RS1800 then, remember the lad saying rs lol
cheers ben,
but sadly it failed, seems an earth on the injector module has come loose, making the car idle funny and at times rev up wildly, so failed on over fueling, two discoloured front indicators (woops) a badly secured drivers rear brake flexy pipe (again woops, the mk3 one on it had blocked so i used a mk4 one) and a track rod end bush was passed it, so its slightly delaying the engine job till its snorted
was interesting finding out why it was idling funny, even got a nasty shock from the earth finger was tingling for ages lol

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
ok about to go in the garage for a transformation
thanks to Rs rob for a hand in getting some ford parts
fitted the new inlet gaskets and bolted it all up with the new bolts
today i started to remove the engine, making the mistake of thinking i could do so without removing the gearbox, so gonna have to gett he wheels off, thent he shafts and take the box out too
as i left it

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
lol nah as this is gonna be used again
ok little sit rep
engine is out and so is the gearbox, me and my grampa been at it today, quite pleased it come out with no issues
also the steering racks been removed
seeing what the mount would sit like and seeing if the header tank would still fit, luckily it does, but needs some trimming on the mount of the tank
i need to drill a hole in the chassis leg, and fit a long bolt, plating each side and using some spacers
then weld the mounting plate to the suspension turret and use three bolts for extra strength, as im not sure how well my mig will penetrate the thick metal here
i will then need to cut out the exsisting mk4 mount and drill holes for the front mount after ive offered the engine upto mark out where exsactly, but i still need to think of a way to mount the pas res tank
another matter is, theres a mount for the drivers driveshaft, not sure if one comes on a mk3 zetec, id imagine so, but the one off the hcs is bit of a job to fit to the zetec engine
with some spacers it could fit, but not sure if thats where it needs to be, i think its more to the right
will be bolting the box to the engine and offering it up to mark where the mounts need to be welded
watch this space

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
ha DO IT!
updatey
bolted the gear box uptot he engine and cut away at some of the offending sandwich plate behind the flywheel to allow for the starter motor, then got it lifted in tothe engine bay to test everything fits in and to mark where the moutns need to be welded
about as close as it would in a mk3
exhaust offered up and under view
gearbox positioned with some pilot bolts to locate it
is this how it should sit? level and height wise? i think it is, but wanna be sure before any welding is done
and offering the mount up and marking where is should be welded
tomorrow im gonna be test fitting the driveshafts and if they go in level and straight ill be happy the engine is level and drop it out, fit the PAS rack and then a guy is coming wednesday to do the welding using a higher ampage mig and some 3mm plates, ill then have to make a small bracet to mount the driveshaft onto the back of the engine
all for now

The engine does look pretty level, you will soon find out when you put the bonnet back on and shut it. If it shuts then your sorted! If not, then you got a problem
Overall, it looks ace so far

cheers mate, your not the only one whos hoping that
little update
was putting the new brake flexy ont he mk3 and i realised i had lost my clips, so me and my grampa popped to the scrappy in bridgend to get some
3 for £1
before we left i wanted so have a little look around for "some talent" spotted a mondeo st24, noticed the rear discs were missing, nice big engine and a lush interior, then realised the brakes might fit, gave wayne a ring to ask if he knew, told me to test fit it to a fiesta around the yard, so removed them and a escort done the job as the brakes were already off, the hubs need drilling out a bit
gonna pick them up tomorrow for £50 little rusty discs but it aint too deep careful braking for a few miles
also the tape i order on ebay come today, gonna wrap the loom that shows in the red for under the bonnet

Be very carefull about using used disks/ pads as you may find the disks to be warped etc. Also, if the vehicle has been sat for a long time the pads may have 'degraded' and gone very brittle, and could possible fracture/ fail in the future.
Just thought I'd mention it!

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 going zetec 16v
ok, had to take the engine back out to get the Pas rack in and the mount welded up
marked out the mount place
this has gotta be cut out
heres my rack
so removed the sensor pipe and fitted the mk3 item, comparison between pas and non pas models
fitting it ive realised a problem
the joint on the rack is much larger than the flexy joint thing on the bottom of the steering coloum one on my car
so will have to go get one off a pas model car, they unbolt under the footwell with a 13mm bolt
heres my new brakes, i will do as much rubbing and sanding to get most of the rust off before i use them, a rebuild is even possible for the calipers
my attempts of a comparision

Re: My fiesta, red mk4 s2 16v BIG BRAKES!
You haven't half made life difficult for yourself by fitting a Series 2
Looks like you're doing a good job so far, though.
