Mk4 Silvertop Zetec 16v -- aim is 140bhp, 2.0 cams in!
Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
well today went back to pick up the alloys and trade them for the XR2i wheels
this is the scrappy owners current project other than his mk1 2.0, this mk1 van hes got a pinto ready to go in thats painted in a orange with yellow dribble over the whole engine, sump block and head, love this van
my dad get his mk1 capri from here 5 years ago, theres plenty of cortinas and granada's there
escort RS1600i wheels 3 with tyres 1 without
so took the other down to get my spare tyre put on it and balanced, then it was clear when it was spinning that the inside rim is dented on 3 of them
i then got to work fitting the ARB
needed a bit of drilling to accept the suspension bolts
dads pinto
got it temporelily bolted but only by the shock bolts, the drilling was very tedious and is taking a while to do, im shattered after today and i didnt even get the one side finished
wheels on but unfortunatly the fronts have to wait, as the spokes are big and hit the calipers, so only wait to fit them is by using 5mm spacers, but thanks to the V6 brakes having a spacer too theres very little thread left on the studs to be safe, i only took it round the block for a pic, one of my grey wheels was still on lol

I can't decide on those wheels matey! I looked at the first pic with them on and it looked immense, went back to it and I thought they looked too sharp for the curves on the MK4. I'm guessing its something I'll have to see in the flesh to fully decide!

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
lol yea now
went to see one today, but was bit of a s**t, sills were rotten in more than just the named place, pas pump was f**cked and the fluid was creamy white!, made hell of a noise when turning the wheels
alsot he rear valance near the spare wheel well was rotton, not worth £300
so walked away, it was a TD escort estate CL
here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-FORD-ESCORT-CL-TD-WHITE_W0QQitemZ250620612878QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3a5a27110e
look familier Rat?
decided to hang on tot he selling money for a bit and sort odd jobs with the mk4
started one today, it hought my starter motor was knackered, ended up being a acid corroded battery terminal, although my sound system is on its ass so thats next, and gonna get some quotes for my bumper resprayed next week

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
Ok, to objectify things on the car
- Power is good and more is to come soon, so im happy there
- Handling is good, new arb and my front poly bushes to fit and coilovers if i win the lottery, so im happy there also
- Looks im not very interested in atm, im inside while driving it, and since power and handling is good im just not bothered about how it looks atm, although the rear end is looking good, so im happy there too
- sound system, now here is what im focusing on now, one of my front speakers is not working, one of my rear speakers isnt either, and my head unit is packing in, its knocking itself off when its on a loud part of the song or if i go too loud with it, only started recently, so its gotta go
sub and amp are working fine no complaints there, good bass so cant moan
my options
im looking to spend near enough to £100 as i can, but that isnt very realistic for something good, so been looking around online
and narrowed it down to two packages to decide between
option A)
good head unit, low level front and rear speakers and some new cabling for the speakers, and ditch the scotch blocks for soldering. going for pioneer head unit, its a good price, good output and looks stunning also supports my amp/sub, then im going for JBL for speakers, matches my sub and i know that theyre a good brand and have high outputs for reasonable prices
so hopefully pioneer head unit and JBL speakers all round
Head unit, pioneer
Front speakers, JBL
Rear speakers, JBL 6X9's
Option B)
same good head unit, medium power front speakers 13cm with seperate tweeters and crossovers to clarify things, new wiring for speakers and Dynamat for the front speakers to reduce distortion, also again remove the scotch blocks behind the head unit for the rear speakers and solder wires for all 4
Head unit, Pioneer
Front componants, tweeters and crossovers, JBL
Dynamat, two mats
then depending if that "broken" 6x9 speaker is sorted i can remain using them and the sub, but even without the rear speakers it will still sound immense, i tried just sub and front speakers the other night and it was awsome considering only one (left) speaker was working at the time
im leaning more towards the second option, whats your opinions?

Coming along thick and fast
I've always wondered whether the rear anti roll bar makes that much difference? The Ka beams having all the mounting points too.

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
Personally option 2 is by far the better speakers but I would't bother with the Dynamat. Its very expensive and only really works when you do the whole door/car.
Dont get me wrong them small ones for just behind the speakers will help make the sound better but but not alot.
My mate did his old primara's boot and it made a hell of a differnce. From out side you could barly hear the sub and hardly any vibration. Thats why it only works when you do the whole door. Its designed to reflect the sound back in the car so just a little bit wont do much.
Im planning on doing my sound system when I got some cash but unlike you I got to get 5x7's no normal speakers for me
Im going for 2 sets of these speakers. Im going for quility rather than how much power it has as better quility can sound loads better than speakers with more power.
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jl-audio-evolution-tr570cxi.html
Then this sub
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jl-audio-12w0v2.html
Then a amp for the speakers and sub. Not sure yet what 1.

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
some bad news, after a bit of spirited driving last night, think ive popped my head gasket
sympons being quite a bit of smoke on idle and upto 2,000 rpm, its white, smells like water/vapour, not oil which would have been stem seals
its also hesitant on revving, misfiring a bit
ive yet to have a good looking over but i was with the misses last night and being almost 12am i haven't had a chance
will update soon

cheers for the offer mate ill keep it in mind
i really cant explain it thou, it isnt severe atm, hard to tell if it actualy is the gasket
only symptons i have is lossing some coolant and white smoke in the exhaust, but none of the others eg loss of power etc
ill drive it a bit and see if it worsens, keeping an eye on the engine temps

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
honestly cant make my mind up with this engine behavour, i got back to the car ealier and i found a leak under the car, seems a pipe near the heater matrix is leaking, so that isnt helping the water level dropping, but doesnt explain the rough idle or smoke
my theory is a part of gasket between bore and water galley has failed, and cylinder pressure is leaking into the coolant system and has caused the pipe to leak, this would account why no oil has been contaminated, also why it hasnt lost any or much power
still managed to keep up with a sporty looking astra earlier, looked like a 1.8/2.0 according to its rear discs and spoiler
Video of her running, this is when shes running warm, when cold thers no smoke or hesitating

Ratspeed :It it presurising the cooling system at all mate?
yes it does mate
i removed one of the coolant pipes earlier and water pissed out like no tomorrow, only odd thing is, the pip was the heater matrix one which is high up and it was also clamped...
also the expansion tank cap is always very high on pressure, more so than normal
today i was swapping over most my jubiliee clips and ditching whats left of the original Ford type ones, hooping its made a difference to the leaking

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v
well
after like 8 months of having my tracking so far out its been eating my tyres, so with the 'new' tyres on the front i wanted them to last, so trackins been done,
feels so much more stable funny enough
anyway, update
had a Sniff test earlier today to verify my problem, the blue fluid turned piss yellow soon enough, so yep gaskets gonners
so get her home, in the garage, and got to work
ive also replaced all the jublies with new ones everywhere, top to bottom
as i was removing the head my father was polishing my spare cover as a change to having a red one, im going to detail it with black text and inserts
as i was removing the cams i thought to myself how its stupid that id be putting them back in, building it all back up and timing it up, then after liek a month or so taking it all apart again to fit new 2.0 cams in, i thought id try and loan £30 or so and go buy some new 2.0 cams tomorrow before fitting them back in the engine
also a buyer opted out of buying my spare S.O inlet so depending i can get the 2.0 throttle body off the 1.6 inlet fitted as the last guy sealed the screws in making ti hard to get the TB off
if i can get it off ill pop it on the S.O and fit that too
should be good for around 120bhp i hope
going to be cleaning it up tomorrow, getting the new cams from a locard scrappy, and building it back up hopfully see it running by end of the day, if not monday
