haha, yea me too but id need a boot popper first though :( and i'm not 100% sure if you can only do it by welding a place not just fibreglassing or wire messing the holes

theres a few methodes of taking it off, you can use some fishing gut/line or a plastic scraper or even a plastic ruler (which is what i used) and a heat gun/ hair drier, just heat it up and use the gut or scraper to peel it off, dont use anything metal since it will damage the paint, hen i used some autoglym tar remover on a rag to scrub the sticky residue away from under the badge. but you could even use some nail polish remover or similar

and cheers mate

not done much tot he car lately and i was starting to get a bit anxious to get somethign new, was with my mate while he was getting something in a scrappy and i found this in a mk7 escort van:

Image

so i went back the following day and picked it up for a tenner, so i was landed, its a full leather steering wheel, its in fair enough condiction and bots straight on, but with two setbacks, i aint a clue how to remove the connector on the pack of the airbag coil back so i had to snip the wires of both wheels, so now i got no airbag, but apparently never did so, and im not too bothered theres plenty of cars with out them so if they can survive mine will, also the indicator doesnt cancel if your indicating left, ive got a plan for that though, im gonna glue a bit of plastic tot he mechanism hopefully will help, its bit smaller than the fez wheel so turning is easier, it feels great in my hands though thicker and smaller radius much more firm and responsive i love it, and Oh the stitching is LUSH:

Image

my old air bag just bolts on direct swap
Image

also ive had it sometime now but now its staying [ERRR] it goes well with the wheel: my early mk3 gear knob:

Image
Image

while i was there i tryed to get the white clocks out of the escort too, taking the chance that theyre are a direct swap also, might be wrong, but when i talked tot he guy he wanted an extra £15 which i didnt have on me and he also reckons that a diesel's clocks wont work on my petrol, so maybe its a sign not to lol, but im now on the look out for a set of mk4/5 ons so thats my next mod, also i will wire up the tacho like with that aftermarket one, but to a different power source, since it hinders the head unit.

ive got a powerflow exhaust thats ready to be sent to me just gotta send the money on monday so thats all well and good, will update when i have it

Didn't realise the escort wheels were smaller :) Might have to give that a go at some point, I prefer small wheels :)

Looking good Jony :)

no probs m8 sorry delivery took so long been so busy latly.
yea it aint the loadest box but i like it.
makes pepole think my 2 litter was just a 1.6 till they seen it move.
then it would open up to a nice note but that was on a 2 litter so may not be as load on a lower cc engine.

and i have the engine out of mine at the mo so cannot test it but i am going to trail fit it and maybe shorten the tail pipe behind that back box and make new back box hangers.
just so it pulls the back box tip futher under the car as the ashally has a really long tip and i wont to keep as snug of a fit as the powe flow was lol.

Its a bit of a bodge to get the MK3 boot popper to work with the MK4 but once its in it works fine :) Took me ages of minute adjustments to get it to fire properly and pull just the right amount lol

Plans sound good! Keep us updated.

ok well yesterday i attempted to do a de-coke but scratched the idea afrer i realised that the exhaust manifold bolts werent gonna come out with out one or two fot hem snapping or rounding off also forgotten about the head gasket, so the injectors wont be done either, ont he other hand i did crack on with the undersealing today (08/07)

although the pictures aint very clear you get the general idea i guess:

Image

Image

Image

without having it on a ramp its hard to get to all them hard to get places and also get a good view at it, but i did the floorpan and boot and a bit of the rear beam, next is the engine bay to have some repainting, get rid of that horrible red under there

Postby jonyb4 on Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:08 pm

ok been at it again today doing this and that,

this:

Image

yesterday when i had a go at taking the head off i got to the point where i got the thermostat housing apart and then decided not to carry on, and when i put the thermostat back together it was leaking a puddle on the floor, so ive made a temp gasket to hold the water in, good old hammer template trick, gotta say its working a beaut

that:

Image

engine bay painting got underway, after i made a right donkies mess of it beofre by painting things red ive finially corrected things now, instead of paying about £25 for a auto specialist strut top cover i noticed a can of chrome enamal spray lying around and though why not, dont look all bad i gotta say

Image

Image

Image

this was followed by my filler cap being resprayed, neat little trick i done by accedent, i was spraying the black parts and the chrome parts on the same table, and some of the over spray from the chrome went on the black parts, ncie bit of metallic paint going on :P

also the expansion tank cap and the washer bottle lid

Image

i also took the horrid looking corroded manifold heat shield off, and im in the middle of spraying that, but i doubt the pait will withstand the ehat, but untill i buy some heat resistant paint it shall do, im not gonna be driving it, iw as gonna make a new one out of some sheet steel, but its proving difficult

Image

Image

Image

as it stands now

Image

as for tomorrow im gonna be buying the paint for the alloy referb,(dredding to have to use filler again, maybe less hardner this time as it set fast last time) and i might make a start sorting out the boot lights problem, i think the switch mechanism has water in it and is shorting out, so ill get my multimeter out and have a poke, if i cant get the old switch working ill use ione of them door light switches instead

list updated

hey all

been busy today doing some painting and funny enough i realised that my door mirrors are notthe same make, one is he genuine ford part, the other must be a pattern part as i cant find any ford markings on it, the pattern part is strangely enough slightly larger also it has different internals, but it seems newer so i was able to take it apart fully thats more than i can say fr the ford item :(

anyway heres some pics, now ive painted them because when i painted them before i never laquered them and they have chipped scratched etc so up for a respray AND laquering this time as i see its importance:

Image
as you can see the internals are completely different

this is all off them complete including the baseplates:
Image

i think the finish on them is gorgous cant believe the effect laquer has on the paint
Image
Image
Image

handles are next, but im dredding having to redo the bumpers

also bought all the paint fopr the alloys, when i was there looking at the paint selection in my local motor factors and i was stuck between anthacite and graphite, in the end i had chosen graphite as its darker and seemed more approprate to my dark theme

then later int he week ill make a start ont he alloys, not sure if i should go through the trouble of removing the tyres from them, agh could do the tyre walls while im doing it though, ncie and fresh

all for now :)
