Nope. Totally different unfortunately.

ok guys such a massive update today, im utetrly shattered, ive been at it since 9:30am

ok firstly, i done the tests ive been called to do for an apprenticeship fitter witht he council, i think i done ok, gotta wait a reply now :)

ok car wise lol

started by taking the rear boomper off and rubebd ti down all the impurities and started to spray, its in half coat colour, will do more tomorrow
Image

test fitted my old si bumper to see what it would look like
Image
Image
Image

while it was off i checked for bad spots on the rear valance, none but this one
Image

it poked through with the screwdriver, so will slap some filler and spray it
Image
Image

then me and my grandad popped to get more paint, and i thought it be a good time to pop tot he scrappy and pick up the white clocks, oh was i in for a suprise :)
Image
you see here mk4 Si clocks with a rev counter, a cig lighter with a light illumination, a mk4 boot popper including latch and cables, and all for £20 quid (robbed the lighter :) )

since the mile counters are no where near the same, if it were within a 100 mils difference id just have left it, but; it involved some of this:
Image
this:
Image
and some of this:
Image
also this :P
Image

swapped the whole speedo section over and just swapped the backgrounds, did try to swap the drives but was a no go

next was installing the popper
started by ex tending the wires
Image
connected the latches cables
Image
fastened the popepr itself
Image
Image
then connected its cable
Image
i forgot to take pics of the later part fo this, ill do some tomorrow BUt it is fully funtioning and installed, some videos to supplement

quick testing of the popper

fitted and testing, not hardwired here

i then stared firstly wiring up the earth point to this window wiper one, it wont mind :)
Image

now to get the switch to work at the centre console i would need to run a long wire to it, tricky since i had to salvage anything i could find lol, i ran the positive wire under the window seal to the high level brake light then along side the power leads for the light down to the rear speaker panel, and my usual route for my boot electrics is over the arch, down the back of the seat under the rear quarter panel, under the door kick panels, under the seat, then to the centre console, wired the positive tot he usual place i use the cig lighter, hope it dont come under load :( but with the extra load in mind ive fitted a lower amp fuse, 10 amps instead of the normal 15, just to reduce the risk of a overheat ;), its fine
i also at this time fitted my cig illumination.

Then i needed to drill out the hole for the button:
Image
Image

and atlast a working boot pop :D :D, couldnt be happier, i am mighty proud of my electrical capabilities, they aint the best, but i aint come across something i cant do so far, they may seem dodgey sometimes, but they work, and its sure handy having the knowledge to do it
im not happy with the mess ive made around the button though, i will need to hide this with something int he future
Image

tomorrow ill continue the bumper respray and then later on wire up the rev counter, and hopefully it should work

this is by far my biggest update ever lol, im so tired now :(

Looking good, though I must ask why you routed the cable over the top of the bootlid? If you wire the positive from the boot popper on to the far left connecting pin, then run the positive cable from the far left connecting copper section on the slam panel through the car over the arches etc. That would give you less chance of damaging the cables with opening and closing the boot and will also ensure that the boot release will only trigger once the boot is closed.

woot today i managed to get the rev counter ont he new white dials working, i wired the transmission sygnal cable up tot he right connector ont he techometer itss elf also it needed another earth wired up to it, and it now is working nice, reading the correct revs also, idles just below 1k, true of most oertol engines, but much to my supprise has a low rev limiter, my si zetec engine could rev like a whore at just under 7k this hcs endrua can only push out just inder 6k before the oddly sounding limiter kicks in

heres a pic of where the wires need to be linked to, this is the back of the clocks
Image

Image

this wire here is located behind the heater control facia and somewhat below the cd/radio, its white with a black line, so its mainly white, not to confuse witht he black with a white stripe, tap into this white with black wire and you can use the screw that holds the cd/radio hanger rail inplace as a earthing point.

as well as this i got on with the bumpers, coem across a slight delay as one of the bumpers fell over and i had to repray parts, theyre both ready for laquer and the back is ready for the gray at the bottem

alot of stuff come in the post yesterday...
some red 12v leds
Image

some aeroblades wipers
Image

and 60mm lowering springs
Image
Image
a good make, so worth every penny

first i fidded the wiper blades since its the easiest
Image
Image

after that i got cracking witht he springs, the rear struts come off nice and easy
Image
Image
back on the car
Image
still havent sorted the rust here, im such a noob with filler
Image
Image

then the front
Image
Image
Image

all done, took me hours sicne the lower ball joints refused to go back in, but i managed :)
Image
Image
Image
Image

for 60mm with 50 profile tyres it doesnt rub, i test drove it in the lanes near my house, over bumpers slow and fast through the turns at all angles and 2 people in the car, so im very happy with the result :)

It should sit lower than that when its settled down a bit, i thought it would be alot lower on 60mm to be honest. Give it time though :) Does look better lower :D

not hey aint new, theyve been on a car for 6months before mine,

mk4s are very different to mk3's they sit alot higher, so lowering them isnt as effective as a mk3, lowering 60mm on a mk4 is similar to 40mm on a mk3, its stupid i know but just how it is

heres some pics of how it sits

i dont care anyway, im sure its 60, it looks fantastic anyway, any lower and it be rubbing really bad, so its perfect, ive been changing the bulbs inside from the standard green to red led's, the clocks are done and looking lovely, the headlight tilt switch is done, and so is the heater display, although not much is shining through, was the same before, maybe mine or maybe just a design fault i dont know, i was doing the clocks but ive burnt it out, the clock itself works but no light from it lol, so may get another and have another go, i done one of the led's in it,, but the 2nd just burned it out, so ill could try again and use 3mm leds instead as it was a bit difficult with the 5mm, ive now got 2 10mm leds for sidelights, hopefully they will do better than the previous ones, as on the way to FiTP Wayne noticed it was flashing, so they were shot

also the rear window heater button and the rear fogs aint been done either as they were messing up too, may need a new rear fog button :(

guess ill see some of you tomorrow at Silvestone then :)

Which stand are you on tomorrow? See you there :)

Mine's only 40mm down, 195/45/15 tyres :) I don't think as far as I'm aware the suspension setups in the MK4 and MK5 are that different as they are essentially the same car, and the majority of shocks/springs are labelled by year (96-02) rather than the different mk's. Then again it probably looks different in the flesh, also give it time to settle.
Mine went from this:
Image

to this directly after lowering:
Image

to this once it had settled:
Image

I've got a feeling Wayne's going to suprise us too

lol yea i think he will

nah im sure they're different, the years for the suspension is 96-98 (me) then 99-02 (you)the rears are different i know [ERRR] mine is mounted to the beam by a fork type, and yours is by a ball type one

such an improvement on yours before and after :Q

a K&N filter for just £5, its been used a fair bit but seems to been cleaned before they guy sold it, and for a fiver i cant go wrong ;), mine needed replacing as it was old and i have no idea how many miles it had dome before it come to me, and it was only a cheap universal one
Image
after a good polish with some wire wool
Image

was bit of a stretch to fit, literally the rubber was more or less the same size as my maf, so i stretched it on

all the pipes are done but one fo the solid pipes that goes to it snapped off at the end, which is gonna be a real pain to sort, but im gonna try and source a brake line tool thing (lol not sure on theyre name, they basicly make the ends like a mushroom cap)

on another topic i ordered bonnet raisers yesterday and they come this morning astonishingly, so fitted them, there a bit too high so i may take them off soon and cut a few mm of the spacers
