It should be the corect thickness otherwise there will be undue wear on the fingers and release bearing.

It's around 1mm IRRC.

Just thaught i'd check your thread out anyways since u'v bin talking to me a little through pm. I didn't realise you live in wales. I live in St Athan near Lantwit major n barry. not yet,

sort of an update, bought 4 ghearbox spacer plates today off a mk4/ka 1.3 HCS and 3 off a mk3/escort HCS too

althoguht he mk3 ones have the starter onthe front, i shall cut them off, aslong as two of the palces are doing a good job of a seal, i dont mind abotu the others, each are 2mm thick, so i will have to find out how many i need simply by trial and error really, all i can do atm

failing this, i will have to buy a mk4 Diesel clutch kit, but atmt his is the cheapest option so will do this first

will update when the box is off and ive fittd the plates,

also anyone know where i can buy new rear ARB brackets for a mk3?

Image

as it was being dropped, i noticed some strands of string and what looked like fibers or hair, i thought "god its the clutch..."

i wasnt to be wrong either...

so yep clutch is shagged, will be needing another

not 100% on which i should get, a mk4 1.8 diesel is the same disc diametre, 210mm,
or maybe a 1.6 Zs one or 1.7 puma one?

anyone able to suggest one?

The question is, was the failure because of a faulty clutch plate, or because there is a problem with the thrust bearing?

niether to be fair, its simply because the clutch wasnt build to support the gearbox/slave cylinder , its just too big in width and was in contact with the housing that i pointed out

im preying that the diesel clutch fairs better, yet again im thinking its down tot he size of the flywheel and thw width of it all, so spacing it is needed

i whish i can get in touch with someone whos fitted a mk4/5 puma box to one of these engines

right i've got a few points here to make,

-why have you gone for a si arb from an older car? it would make alot more sense for you to put a zetec s rear beam on
as their known for their stiffness and good handling, so would save you dealing with old brackets etc

- a mk5 z-s clutch is 200mm and a puma is 210mm
as your going from a 1.3 ( or even 1.25 - 1.4zetecs) you'll need to change to the z-s flywheel and then the puma clutch can go straight on
the standard puma clutch was even fitted to the FRP which was 155bhp, so will be fine for you
been researching on zsoc as i've just upgraded the g/f's mk5 z-s clutch lol

the clutch slave/thrust bearing is the same on most fords puma,ka,focus, fiesta etc
but very worth while changing while your here

one more thing stay away from q&h clutches
either a new ford part, LUK etc

Si arb cause its far cheaper, and due to the fact my mk4 is an early model (pre 98, when the revisions were done) so id also have to chamge my rear shocks for late mk4 or mk5 ones, costing even more

clutch ill think about, but so far im edging more for a fiesta diesel one, but i will look into the flywheels, the zetec one does seem alot larger/thicker

my slave cylinder and bearing was done 10,000 miles/ a year ago when the clutch was done

and ollie it is an iB5 box, just mk4/5 use the hydrualic version

its not meant to be like that, not as if i was revving it while it was slipping or something, the gearbox was crushing it in the pressure plate, and it was spinning and ended up like that

i decided to power wash the cars, bloody three of them i done :x

the mk3 was stinking with mud all over it from when i decided to do a tad of off roading :oooh:
my mother was complaining one of her fiestas doors was making an embarrising noise, its got a dented front end but this she moans about lolm, some simple high temp grease sorted that on the position lock thing in between the shuts
then washed that

done the engine bay of the mk3

and then washed my mums other car  her Chrysler sebring

gotta love the Mobility scheme, brand new car of your choice every 3years, insurance, tax and any maintenance or repairs free of charge, for a monthly free, and some models have an upfront fee, but its alot cheaper then actually buying the cars, all on a Disabled badge, almost makes it worth being disabled :oooh:
