Mk4 Silvertop Zetec 16v -- aim is 140bhp, 2.0 cams in!
Re: My fiesta
Its a 1.8 as the zetecs that drop in to MK4's aren't real engines...
Oh, and you sort of gave it away here:

thats cause your an idiotif it's been sat like that, I wouldn't touch it
and its a zetec, they never come in 1.7's
your mistaking it for a zetec se, which if you use your eyes, you will see the exhaust is on the front...

hehe yea woops, i just dont understand whats changes the bhp figures between escort and mondeo 1.8's
umm yea it will fit in like it would a mk3.5 but custom mounting points are required, i plan to cut away at the old mk4's mounts and fit the zetec one from a si
i think ill need to swap the hydrualic clutch system to a mk3 mechanical one
it comes with everything you seen in the pic, ancillaries like the alternator and starter motor etc, even the escort running gear and subframe
got it all for £110 plug £30 for postage

thats gonna be a mare to fit... why didnt you go for 2ltr? if you are going to the agro of zetec into a mk4 you may as well go for the biggest size!

Re: My fiesta
lol i know its gonna be a mission lol, but for the 2.0l thing, its just done too often, 2.0l si here and there
one of the reasons im actualy using a zetec over the mk4's proven 1.7 se conversion is because its just gettign done too often, i wanna be different, that and ive seen it be done, a mk4 which looked completely stock to me, was in the scrappies near me and had a 1.8 in it, dickhead didnt even upgrade the brakes silly solid 240mm ones
so i know they can be fitted
so me and my little welder gonna have to do some work, i think one of the gearbox mounts ont he escort box is similar to that of a mk4 fez, and after all theyre both R reg, even have the same milage 73k its so meant to be lol

The reason it's done often is cause it's so easy! It's certainly the engine conversion I'm thinking of.

You're going to have to be good at wiring aswell especially with the imobiliser to sort out. Most of the loom and fuse boxes will need pulling apart.

looks like it was from an escort as a guess?
judging by the top mounts and gearbox mounts?
good luck with it mate,
if you find out the engine code could let you know more about the engine,
which car it came from, what power it was from factory etc

Re: My fiesta
looking good mate glad to see its getting a new lump
shouldnt require to much work to make it fit (if your handy with a welder)
why dont you use a zetec s or mk4 5 diesel gearbox surely keeping the hydraulics is easier than converting to a cable clutch
use the gearbox thats in it now nice short ratios
keep up the great work

cheers rob, when it arrives ill jot it down for ya mate, will be a good help, not that i can see the inlet manifold in this pic, from what ive read the non xr2i/rs1800 cast inlet will have 105ps spec, ones with the plastic black inlet that goes down the back are 115 spec
and yea its from an R reg escort
and haha yea ben
anyone know what size brake discs this escort would have had? im guessing 18.8 so it would have had 260mm, if so i think i best get bigger
and cheers jon, what would the bolt patterns be like on these other boxes? dont really know too much about using spacing plates, lol every time i click submit some one else posts im gonna be here ages at this rate lol
lol rob dones it too haha

basically any ib5 or bc box will fit, so you've got quite a choice of gearbox's really
only difference being the bc box has the starter at the front
and the ib5 has the starter at the back of the engine
on the back of the cast inlet's it will say
SO - small output - HO - high output not sure if theres one for inbetweem
i've got a pic somewhere showing the difference on the inlet ports between HO and SO on the sandwhich plate

well i have a small gasless mig, shoudl be enough for low gauge metals and should keep a hold on the chassis leg, but just incase ill do my best to bolt the mounts frames to the leg also
and a good point in using the mk4 box is that the mounts will already be there, i was very concerned aobut the mount ont he back of the box, on a mk4/5 theres like a arm that can raise and lower as the engine flexes in its mounts, i dont rmeember one of these on my old 3.5 i should get under the mk3 in the garage and see for more of the differences, but using a mk4 box would save all of this

where could i get or how would i make a plate to make the box and block bolt together happily?

no lol, it was showing your lack of knowledge on what the question was about, purely since you looked at the pic, guessed that it was an engine that looks nothing like the one in the pic, the sigma has an intel on the front, and an exhaust in the back this clearly has a murky brown coloured manifold pointing down away fromt he car, so its an exhaust
and then you topped it off saying its not good to leave it on its arse like that, which isnt any problem, if it were id have a right bollocking by now lolol

Actually it was you who mentioned the ass bit, my original comment was I wouldn't touch an engine that had been left like that, meaning left in a garden! so what if it's had a cover over it, it's still been left where the damp will hit it with no real protection!
EDIT:
Actually if we read back:
jonyb4 :ts half resting on its sump and other half on the subframe, on some grass, and its probs had a tarpolan over it
Nowt wrong with leaving an engine sat like that, I personally, never said there was but the real comment was that you don't even know for sure it's been covered up, you're assuming it has!
jonyb4 :thats cause your an idiotif it's been sat like that, I wouldn't touch it
How am I an idiot? You said guess... I guessed... I also said I wouldn't touch it, oh sorry for the personal opinion but I wouldn't. Clearly there was a need for the idiot comment.

Re: My fiesta
If its from an r reg it will definately be a 115, but that depend which manifold you use.
I'd use your original gearbox aswell as it is hydraulic and I think the escort one is cable?
The wiring isn't that simple. The mk4 ecu is inside tied into all the other electonics so you would have to do a major chop of that and then get the right feeds for the new loom. By imobiliser issue I meant removing the mk4 one, as the ecu controls the car not starting etc so you would have to look at how its tied into the rest of the loom. On the si the imobiliser is external and is embedded in the internal loom. A mk6 escort ecu would be easier with just the wires to the code reader controlling it

just had a thought,
the best box using your existing mounts would be a FRP box
which is basically 1.6 zetec-s gears with a 1.7 puma final drive

I'd just leave it, gearbox will be ok. The lo cast one will take it back down to 105. Best bet is to get an escort plastic one, thats if the engine doesn't come with one.

Look good Jon! Keep the 1.3 box in there, saves pissing around with gearbox mounts then, will be rapid too, top end should also be fairly decent too in all honesty! Hope it all goes well

hehe cheers mate, im not sure about the 1.3 one, im worried it wont be strong enough for the extra (almost double the power) if i maike the engine 130spec it will be more than double lol, doubt its upto it
mind saying that, why woudl the diesel box be any stronger, theyre both evenly matched
and just to think, i almost kept the rebuild box off my old 1.4 GRR

Re: My fiesta
jonyb4 :hehe cheers mate, im not sure about the 1.3 one, im worried it wont be strong enough for the extra (almost double the power) if i maike the engine 130spec it will be more than double lol, doubt its upto it
mind saying that, why woudl the diesel box be any stronger, theyre both evenly matched
and just to think, i almost kept the rebuild box off my old 1.4 GRR
Should be alright, most boxes are the same, just uprated bearings if anything. People put 1.1 boxes on 2 litres, so why would a 1.3 box be any harm on a 1.8? Thats the way i see it
