Why be a dick about it? There was probably a point where you couldn't time one up. At least Jonys sensible enough to get a profesional to look at it so he doesn't fck it

i wasn't trying to be a nob just suprised me since you can convert to a 1.8 that you couldnt time then engine
Ive done a zetec belts a few times so i know it can be a pain to get it tight but thats how i learnt just redoing the belt time and again
does help with you have the woodruff locking keys and some tip ex always helps to mark TDC and make marks on the pullies, crank and cam gears so you know you've got it 'conquering device' on

sorry if ive pissed you off
been writing a list of what i need to do on mine for the convo only dark areas are the extra wires for the fuel pump ect and whether i can get a blacktop water pump to work with the alt as its a catridge type unlike the silver top zetec but im not to worried
also im going to get manifolds off a 1.8 escort you want me to grab you a ho inlet manifold or did you get one with ur engine

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v Xr2i power in a mk4

Postby jonyb4 on Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:23 pm

ok small update

Turns out that belt slipping has done damage

being towed
Image

fiesta generations
Image

new timing belt fitted and timed up, its running like a bag of nails, missing and big loss of power, its likely a valves been damaged, chipped or even bent, but it still runs and drives

somethings not quite adding up in my mind with it as it was running fine before i took it to the garage

anyway ive sourced a new head that ill be removing from the escort in a breakers in the morning, instead of just buying how ever many valves i need, its just easier and less time consuming to just replace the head, its exchanging it from the downpipe/cat i bought 2 weeks ago that had no cat in it lol, so costing me £30 in a sence
Image
Image

im trying to get hold of a compression tester to be positive before i remove the head from mine,

in the mean time i need a car for work as im starting in a forthnight, so instead of risking it, ive now decided not to sell the mk3, wernet 100% happy with doing that int he first place, so this is somewhat making me happy lol

but now im gonna be driving it a bit, i cant leave it standard any longer lol, ive got my eyes on some Xr2i wheels for it and ill get some new speakers and rear speakers wired in soon as its current setup is poo, maybe swap my cd player into it for a bit, and if im doing that sub also :bonkers:
might even find a spoiler and some fogs on the front, all in respect of it being a handy runaround
Image

ill try and find the right paint for it and sort out its s**t paint work best i can, anything i can make of it will be better

so just gonna take my time and fix it up in spare time, im happy with whats waiting for me once its done, so no particular hurry, anticipate the moment to come and just get the job done right , some reason the mechanic didnt replace the tentioner and other pully, main reasons its damaged now, so ill do that, new water pump and headgasket and bolts

also ill get the front bumper sprayed up by a body shop and that back on before its back on the road

ahhh set backs

im honestly not too bothered lol, im just glad its not an engine replacement lol, its couple hours work and it will be right as reign

it will be off the road roughly a month, tax runs out tomorrow, and ive already swapped the insurance onto the mk3, so its cgoing back int he garage in the morning

and ill SORN it and tax once done, saves me about £12 off taxing :P

well im VERY confused, i decided to go out and determind which cylinder was down, so i took one plug lead out at a time and run it in between till i found the one that didnt make it run any worse, poor thing was on using 2 cylinders for three occasions

it was cylinder 4, i took a picture as the spark was jumping to the cam cover, and looks pretty nice

Image

http://s521.photobucket.com/albums/w332/jonyb4/?action=view&current=Video0067.flv

as you can see in the video, i put the plug lead back on, started it up, and everything is fine, it runs perfect as ever!

i drove it round the village twice and it run fine, mind the second the intake pipe wiggled loose and air flooded the cylinders and made it missfire, i s**t myself thinking it was buggered again lol, it aint bolted on atm as i figured id be stripping it in the week

im so confused, did the mechanic put the lead on dodgy? or was there something happening in the cylinder when i left not sparking?

ill be doing a compression test on it tomorrow, see the truth, if its giving a reading of around 150psi + ill know its sealing and i got no worries,
my grampa is insisting we still go get the head none the less

anyone know the manufactures readins for a healthy sealing cylinder in psi? or sall i just use oil?

If its running fine now it going to be something like the lead not on properly. If there are bent valves it will read very low, i.e. close to zero, and it won't be intermittent.

How old are the leads? Thats what I would be trying first.

far as i can tell the leads are fine, been driving all day fine, when moneys coming in next month ill try for some ford racing leads or maybe megnecor ones, i just think he didnt put the lead back on properly, maybe it missed the plug and didnt connect up

i did try to do the test, but the lead i was given wasnt the right length for the deepness of the zetecs head, but i took it back up to the mechanic to let him know its running fine, he says well it sounds fine, was probs just a little mishap so not to worry to much about it

im gonna be keeping an eye on that belt from now on though lol

anyway today, my gramps insisted on us still getting the head, for a spare

went from this, to stripped in around 2hours work, it rained, snowed hailed and then was sunny when we finished  mother nature tested us!
Image

to this
Image
Image

and had a shed load of parts, cylinder head, 16 valves, shims and tappets, cams all bolts, S1 cam cover, inlet manifold and injector plate, exhaust manifold, the thermostat and housing, cam belt cover, spark plugs and crossover pipe reading '1.8 litre 105 injection' to replace my 1.6 one :Q
which is nice for £30 really

Image
Image
Image

i also come home with the 2i wheels for the mk3 :aviator:
Image

and how it is now
Image

all for now, just crying out for a new speedo cable and new throttle cable, im hioping an Si one will fit it, i need one to be longer and fit the mk3 throttle body, im sure the Se ones dont

More bad lucks come mine and the fez's way

i hit a 5" deep pot hole yesterday down a side street, it was pouring down and it was filled with water so it was easy to concieve it as a small puddle

after i got out to check for any wheel damage, i found none and drove on, then a knocking noise started as i was driving, after again pulling over, jacking the car up and having a mate turn the wheel and rock the engine etc etc, i still found nothing

after further inspection today i foudn no fault sunder the car, or behind the wheels, opened the bonnet and checked the engine mounts, the front one that was a bit of a make shift has cracked its stitch welds and come clean off,was rubbing with engine movement on the chassis leg

so ive been up to visit the chap who fabricated it for me, and decided a better revised mount is needed, this is going to be a flat piece that extends over the chassis leg, and will have to legs coming verticly down the sides of the chassis leg, these will then be fitted wit two long studs through the leg to secure it, no more welding, and thicker 6mm plate is going to be used

will get the bumper and inner arch cowling off for it to be fitted tomorrow
