ugh f**k tell me about it, i just changed that oil, cost £30!, id of been so pissed if it contaminated it
and yea matt i still want the bits
ok noobish moment today, i got the new 2.0 cams, got the head back on and started to bolt the cams down, was doing inlet at the time, and it fudgekin snapped!
i was being a gammon slipper and tightning it wrong and the thing snapped clean in half
so pissed away 30 notes
but on a plus side, its running again and sounding sweet
cleaning the crowns and block surface
got me new 2.0 cams and a spare series 2 rocker cover
gave the combusion chambers a clean uop, but didnt go to into it as worth upsetting the spark plugs
before
cylinder 1 was to blame, white effect
cleaned up
replacing the tappets
mrs helping out again
gasket on
using old head bolts with theyre heads cut off and tapped for a flat blade screwdriver techinque as a guide for fitting the head, i slotted it back on, then done the three bolt tightening stages using a protractor for the 3rd stage
all done back up with timing done and cams back in
the polished cover looks mint, im only focusing on the engine by for fitp as rest of the car is still in a s**t state
all done, and running fine, still need to fit the auxillery belt though and needs new anti-freeze
Video of engine ticking over
heres pic of the snapped 2.0 inlet cam
should be back on the road tomorrow for a week of long rrunning in

No need for a week of running in,
you've only changed the headgasket and not touched the bottom end.
Just take your time for the first 50 miles

cheers lads, im releaved about the 50miles then lol
slight problem though, its rather sluggish, hasnt got the power it had before, even when the gasket was knackered
could the timing be to fault if its retarded/advanced a bit?
the mark on the crank pully was very slightly out but both cams were spot on

Could be just your one tooth from tdc or something. Can use a dial test indicator to find true tdc but the timing marks should do the job if you get them spot on.
Did you use new head bolts then or "gash" the old ones back in???

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v -- head gasket replaced and running
nah mate used new pattern bolts but used two of the old ones without a head to serve as a locating dowel so to speak
and then obviously removed them prior to new bolts fitting
and ofcourse a new gasket, but thats it lol
belt is only a month old so sod buying a new one, haynes never said anything about needing a new set of cam bolts
oh and my mate matt who helped on the sunday reminded me how we over tightened the camshaft bearing bolts as my large scale torque wrench only goes down to 28NM and haynes said to do them in two stages of 9NM and then 19NM
so i think i may have over tightened them which could account for the loss in power
gonna pop to a mate tomorrow and see if i can borrow a smaller scale wrench
if that dont do it its gotta be the timing

I always cheat finding TDC and stick a screwdriver down the first pot
If you have just 1 wheel jacked up, put it in gear and turn the wheel whilst you watch the screwdriver rise/fall. I'm asuming you did lock the cams with a flat bar anyway

You lock the cams with the bar, or 'tippex' if your lazy, then like Tweek said, remove no1 plug and pop a long screwdiver down the hole. Then turn the engine over by hand until the screwdriver is at its highest point, that is TDC.
Plus you dont need to lock the crank because its key-wayed

lol thats it?
just lock cams using flat bar, when the slot is able to be fitted with the bar, then TDC the first piston?
f**k where were you earlier

That's it, it's very easy to time zetecs
You have to remember though that the crank turns twice to the cams turning once.

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v -- head gasket replaced and running
ok starting the final run, preps for Fitp
slight detailling before we had to go the cinema
black detailing on Cam cover
needs a slight rub over with thinners/solvent
EFI
also painted underside of the bonnet, mk4's coem with a sheet of sound deadening, un ive removed this, underneath was mostly unpainted , finally got round to doing it, needs another coat before pics
matt was round to help spraying the bumper up, its only a naff job as i cant afford to get it done professionaly in time for sunday, so them looking for faults might wanna start here
like i said, my main focus is the engine bay
going to be redoing the timing tomorrow, i hate not having it running at its best
also laquering bumper, second coat underside of bonnet and hopefully wiring in my HORN at last!

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v -- head gasket replaced and running
well timing is all done today, pleanty of power back now so im happy, inlet cam was quite out and the exhaust werent accurate either
BAD matt!
im glad i learned how to do it, mind you i could have done with the cam pulley locking tool, using a screw driver jamme din a sproket doesnt do no one any favors
other than that a few touches done today ready for sunday
bonnet sencond coat done, looks tons better
didnt get too much done as the timing took up most my afternoon
also got this done to go with the small amount of red theme under the bonnet
also i finally wired in my horn, its great im loving having it again im tooting it all the time
made my own loom for it as its easier than reading up wiring diagrams and taking my dash apart
Just need to find a sticker with a horn print logo on it to keep the MOT guy happy
also replaced my broken LED sidelight bulb, really dont last more then 6 months these, was starting to flicker, willow/XR2i babe and wayne will remmeber that one of mine went last year on the way to fitp lol, must be an annual thing
also i resprayed my upper grill on the front as its chipped over time
its almost ready for sunday
just painting the calipers, final coat and laquering the bumper and then fitting, cleaning inside and out so please let weather be good, mrs is on point with that lol , is all going on tomorrow

Re: My fiesta, mk4 Zetec 16v -- the aim is 140bhp
time id post up about the recent comings
the drive up to fiesta in the park was a fun one, sharing the trip sure makes it more entertaining
matt practicly lives at my garage
he bought and fitted new array of lights for the front, and toyed with the look of removing his grill
i think it looks good like that, some black meshing in there and hes sorted
tested that splitter i bought a while ago, but it aint for me, too square and chavvy
back to red witht he golf splitter making a come back
and its all ready for fitp
drove to strensham services north of tewksbury to meet wayne by 5:50, so we had to leave port talbot by 4:00
i swear matt on the cam must have been pissed
the chorley services, meet up with steve in his ghia X, was a few good looking fords here too, aaron from f4oc and Brad from fiestaguides tagged along as dean was late, no supprises then
back on the road
in there hundreds
i didnt take many pics, but a small sweep round what i did, some of my favorites, the Ka was a very suble car, i liked this
400bhp in a front wheel drive!
read this mk1 in FF, well it was the FF stand
back at 'camp'
that mk5 was simply stunning, alot of work has been spent on that, and it shows
the car gained a few mods whilst being on stand lol
fitting a few things i collected at fitp
extended wheel studs, not the easiest things to fit ive found, they dont pull through very well, i tightened them as far was i was willing to with the wheels on, still not in all the way, then hammered them to death still not much better, so ill drive round for a week then retighten the nuts incase they pull through any more, only half the spline is in the hub
thanks to steve, new componants including crossovers, tweeters and woofers JBL gto series, the exsact ones i was shopping for online before lol
thanks to matt/ratspeed for the inlet piping, sillies and ERST chargecarrier, also a H.O zetec inlet
but the drive home with the chargecarrier fitted i found it to be a bit restrictive, so its off for now, i think it would suit a 1.6 zetec better where not as much air is needed to be drawn in
but still using part of his stuff
matt fitting his new rear hub axle spacers to the puma, he got 12.5mm ones, you add them tot he exsisting puma 10mm ones, but pumaspeed supplied incorrect lengthed studs so he had to rob some of mine so my arb is gonna be rattling around a bit longer lol
the addition of STICKERS!
my 'actual shopping list' only parts ive actually fitted will go here
NGK and Castrol, want a ford one now
oh so true, i realised, the only part on the car i can think of thats simply been bought and bolted on, no fussing or alterations to it or the car, is the zetec s rear bumper
new inlet
thank heaven that you supplied the throttle body bolts matt id have been a bit stuck without them, my 2.0 tb on my 1.6 inlet is botched on with garden bolts
my intake options, im still deciding how to go about it, i dont want to keep using the standard for much longer, might try the bannana with the sillicon, and a green cotton filter
all for now
