MK5 endura-e bottom end to MK3 HCS

Postby Liebo on Fri Apr 23, 2004 9:49 pm

My bottom end is shagged, needs a re-bore I believe.

I was going to get a low milage HCS engine and rebuild it up.

I can get a low milage Endura-E from a Ka/Mk5.

I imagine the head of my HCS 1.3 and its CFI will fit on the bottom of an EFI Endura-E

Will anything need changing or is it a direct swap?

Thanks

Direct swap! I did it to my old M reg 1.3 HCS Fiesta! As you said, the CFI head will need putting onto the ka/fiesta mk5 bottom end as the EFI heads are different.

Why not drop an Endura-E bottom end in it?

Rebuild mine would mean a lot more expense!!

Piston rings are fooked
I have piston knock
it burns oil like it uses petrol
inner wall of the cylinder has a step so you can tell it is worn

I did this years ago mate, the Endura motors are higher compression so you have to swap the pistons. It makes the whole point of buying the other engine pointless.

You can put new bearings and an oil pump in yours for much less money!

What do you mean swap the pistons?

I was going put the whole block in with my current CFI head and injection system on?

I've got quotes of 250-350 for bottom end re-bore and re-ring wheras I can get the Endura-E engine for that

Just stick the Endura-E bottom end in! As I said, I did it to my old 1.3 M reg fiesta and a year and 5 months later it is still running fine, with 30k added on to it since I did it.

Also that way, you dont need an ECU, wiring loom or reprogramming of the PATS system etc.

Proof!

There must be different kinds of Endura, I've still got the flat top pistons in the garage. You'll need to research the model years to find out which one came with the lower compression to suit your CFi.

i may have a bottom end spare, 1.3 hcs cfi, runs fine, been re bored etc, pretty rapid too. its got some kind of recess in every piston, is that to stop valve slap?

My endura-e bottom end was a 2001 year engine, and that had flat pistons, whereas the old 1994 bottom end had swirl castings (Round indent) in the top of the piston.

Still runs fine though with the higher compression!

More details on this engine please? Can someone confirm the valve slap theory?

When I had the head of my car off, I am sure the pistons were flat at the top?

You must not mix the two piston types. The engines will run like a bag of s**t if you make a high comp one low comp, and the other way around MAY provide more power but it will be at the expense of engine life.

Look at the pic of my engine.

Looks like mine have flat tops?
Wasnt you saying the Endura-E had flat tops?

Mine is a CFi model so wouldnt this be closer to the Endura-E type engine than maybe the Mk2 fiesta OHV engine in earlier Mk3 fiestas (manual choke, non-ecu)

Looks the same as my 1994 block pistons. Those pistons have definitely been cleaned though. No engine has pistons that clean if the engine has been used.

Only thing to do is put the head back on and start it.
If its got oil in and has been kept somewhere dry it should be ok.

engine has done approx 10000 miles since rebuild. gave pistons a wipe when i took head off, thats all. also cleaned gasket off block face, other than that, not touched it for about 2/3 months

I've been told that the joint you speak of, just has a bolt holding it in, as its not a tapered socket.

This means unbolting it and it will come out?
