mk5 panther black 2.0 zetec *Now going ZT*
Re: mk5 panther black 2.0 zetec
jonyb4 :yea i know that, what i was saying is, it will be more expensive to go blacktop, its a newer engine, and mostly because ti come in the focus and mondeo mainly, both are still quite expensive still, focus 2.0l are still over 1.5k. mondeo mk3's are similar
there is plenty of blacktop engines around from the £150/300 and for just over £700/800 can get a brand new one on a crate still

RE: ABS.
- Buy a non-ABS master cylinder complete with reservoir.
- Disconnect the ABS unit multiplug and protect with a bag or something. Ideally, and if you're removing it for good, trace back all the wires to the fuse box and cut them off/secure them.
- Remove the four wires leading to the rear seat area, but leave the grommet in to keep moisture out of the car.
- Make up new brake lines for the front brakes, and to join the rear lines from the bulkhead area to the new non-ABS MC
You did well there for £22, really well! I need some of that stuff, let me know if you want to sell:
PAS mounting bracket & bolts,
PAS pipes,
A/C pump mounting bracket & bolts
Alternator mounting bracket & bolts.
Rad fans
FYI the engine mount will be OK for mock up, but not for use. The Mondeo/Cougar side mount is a softer grade than the Focus; Mondeo/Cougar use additional mounts on the gearbox side.

May as well get the Vibratechnic mount for the FRS then, mate. It's something like £100 more, but if you're going the RS route anyway...

not 100% sure if going rs route am really liking the idea of a supercharged as dont see many zetec been charged
but main thing is to get it all in the car and working first and enjoy it then will probs use this mock engine and rebuild it up wish i had the cash like you did and just buy a new on the crate blacktop

few more little questions for you mark after reading what you have put on nomads ka project.
i have a slivertop 1.8 sump and pick up pipe here but you said the blacktop sump is better? so is it worth just selling this sump on?
also for the gearbox i have the zs box and shafts which come with the shell will this bolt up to the black op or what bell housing would i need for this?. If not will it also be best to sell this box and shafts etc what box would you recommend as need to get the box etc before can get the mock engine up to see were the mount needs to be
thanks again mate

The Series 3 had many changes to make the overall engine structure stronger, as one of the main complaints about the series 1/2 engines was that as the capacity went up, engine smoothness went down (the 2.0 really is rougher than the sweet 1.6).
The series 3 sump is a lot stiffer and adds to the overall strength of the engine as a whole, it also has improved oil baffling which you need if you're on track a lot of the time.
Why don't you fit an MTX box? You have one coming with the engine.

No, not really. It's especially easy in a ZS as a lot of the features suit the 'box anyway.
Just a couple of custom brackets, the MTX gear linkage, and then have the driveshafts shortened (£150 IIRC)

Re: mk5 panther black 2.0 zetec
i was todl that the escort running gear my 1.8 come with was an MTX box, if its true, the mtx has very different mountings tot he mk4/5 fiesta gearbox, it will require tremendous alterations, i beleive the mk6 escort used a gearbox cradle much like the mk3 fiesta?
the mk5 has nothing in means of front crossmembers and holes int he bulk head to support a cradle like that.
the fiesta mk4/5 diesel gearbox is a winner, like matt said earlier its strong enough for 200bhp as proven by jenny's ZT puma
i beleive it also uses the diesel shafts, and a four paddle clutch
id recommend the four paddle clutch as my 1.8 ate the diesel mk4 fiesta clutch and it would have been completely expired by the end of 6 months (while my 1.8 was in the mk4)

No, that's a common misconception. Chip and ECU is all you need

Yes for sure you can check that PATS has been disabled as the clock light will go out as normal. You will more than likely get a check engine light, though, if everything is disconnected.

It would, it's exactly the same principle. There are a few pin differences, but they are both EECV architecture.
