Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
Got this towed home today, it's a m plate mk5b escort, its a more door in Pacifica blue
It's had a fair old bit of modifing done
Was a trade for my escort mk6 estate, which wasn't filling it'd role as a cheap run around, this is a project.
Known issues are the near side front brake pipe has got a leak, and the water pump gasket is leaking, and a wheel bearing is making a noise (my guess its a bearing)
It has a 2.0 zetec with 1.6box, rs front bumper, mk6 rear, gti leather interior rs dials, rs rear beam with discs which is polybushed, lowered 30mm, 260mm mondeo front brakes, a k&n filter and a stainless exhaust
Pics of the mounds of spares hes given me, hes not long had a baby, so hes giving up on the modifying game, and wanted something more expectable for a kid, hence the swap
ive been looking for one of these steering wheels for a while, the airbag mainly, i like the flush ones
and the party piece
pictures of the car, excuse the missing bumper, the orignal was damaged in a bump, hence the replacement in primer
plans are unknown atm, but ill tidy her up and get it mot'd, then might be put to use, but the insurance will be slightly higher
will make a start ont he pump gasket and pipe tomorrow maybe, and ill keep you upto date, its tax run out end of nov and its been off the road since then, its mot is out end of may

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
small update
done a bit of work on the escort, got her up in the air and all 4 wheels off, had a good poke around, im relieved the chap phillip who i got it off, as i dont know him all that well, and hes been 100% genuine, its as he said, all clean underneath undersealed, with the welding done for the last mot where he said, 2 on the rear n/s chassis leg, and the other on the drivers rear leg
anyway hoovered the interior as it was full of stones and crap, needs a polish and wipe done
dont know if its standard or not as he fitted electric windows himself, but the up side of the switches was facing the back of the car, which is confusing, its hard enough going from a fiesta having it on the door to this having them on the console
so i wanted to swap them around to be "right" way up, took some fiddling but it sits right now
the RS2000 clocks
the car is actually on 92k
passengers airbag
mk6 doorcards, i want to return it to the mk5 ones, i prefer them
sunroof, wouldnt mind getting a escort/mondeo electric system fitted in
then set about removing the leaking brake pipe, on the n/s/f
bit of WD always helps
checked it has the 2.0 throttle body, glad it does, but it has the S.O inlet, could be worse though, like a 1.6 one
and the defective pipe off, the clips are still intact too so ill just replicate this on some new pipe, make the ends up and refit, fill the system and bleed each corner
then i can clean the discs up
all for now

sell me the spare 2.0!
im definatly tempted to get the black gti as spares so will be plenty of spares for the both of us hanging around lol.
I think it needs the rs2000 bonnet fitted, rear spoiler, spats and tidy wheels

So, you bought an estate, which you spent loads of money on to get it through an mot - only to then swap it for another escort which is crash damaged and also without an mot...
Is this for real?

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
Looks ok Jony, I know it will look better than the photos suggest atm.
I dont like the wheels or the gti seats etc, if you gonna be changing door cars, make sure seats go as well or it wont match and look gash..........
Colour is nice, same as my old mk2 orion and my mates SE500.
What wheels are you going for??
Craig

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
havent a clue what wheels so far, these have loads of meat on the tyres, its the only reason theyre still mine lol
ill have a talk with my wheel mate, see if hes still got some RS7's
id liek some RS2000 seats but obviously the door cards wont fit being a 5 door
its not crash damaged... and it has an mot, read before you moan
i didnt want or like the escort after driving it a week, the diesel was to be a cheaper way of getting to work, now im between jobs, so its not needed, so make good of a bad thing and get something i do want from it, this...

So why have you got another 2.0 engine if the one in there is 2.0?

- Danny Boy - :So why have you got another 2.0 engine if the one in there is 2.0?
i was going to refund the tax on the estate, its worth 80 to me, so i said to save us time and effort how about i have the second 2.0 he had, he was selling it for £80, as he offered me it before
not sure what to do with that atm, i did like the idea of making a budget zetec turbo, but i have no idea what inlet route id take, i cant fabricate the flanges etc, and since im between jobs, it would be difficult funding it
so it will likely be sold on, namely to my mate matt to fit to his GTi, along with my 2.0 ecu in the fiesta
but atm i wanna make sure the engine in this escort is all good first
selling it will make a nice profit though
lol fraggle, should stay for a while mate, ive always wanted a mk5, mk6 escort and mk4 fiesta onwards i dont like much, i find them in the stage were ford were very cheap and lazy, i dont like the feeling and they just dont do it for me like the mk3 fiesta etc do
now i got plenty of time on my hands ill enjoy playing around with it down the garage

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
Yeah it'd be a good idea to make sure the engine is sound first before you sell on the other one lol.
I think you should do a zetec turbo, be a good little project. I would LOVE to do one, but I cant afford it, but then i wouldnt want it immediately, so it would be a long term project i expect.
So, sell me the engine? For free? lol
Between jobs now? Did you leave halfords to take another job then?

Jon - sell all the bits, break the Escort, and spend a bit on the Si. This surely makes more sense?

I hope this one works out for you, f**k me Jon the last thing you need is getting new s**t for another mistake :/
Looks good anyway, I like the colour too, I wouldn't bother insuring it, like you've said, keep it was a project for now...

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
thanks for the replies, some from all aspects
i could break it, but i dont want to, theres nothing much wrong with it
and if i were to make money it wont be for parts for the Si, the Si is done as far as im concerned, tracking and new tyres but thats maintenance
its modifying days are finished
its time to play with something new, you said it yourself once mark, running a project motor as a daily is stressful
i really would enjoy making a zetec turbo, but like i said even the budget builds can mount to over a grand in cash
and as for halfords, ye you could say that, my probation if i decided to stay on it would have been alot of hastle and would have been permanent, so it was best to leave, so i best enjoy this payday on the search for a new job

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
well its good news for this little baby
shes found a new owner soon enough if the proceedings go well
my brother is looking to buy it
best get the water pump sorted first then, if i cant make a decent gasket from gasket paper (theyre rather rounded and narrow) he will buy a new pattern pump off ebay for the mere sum of £17.99 and that will resolve that easy enough
will update after ive started tomorrow if i have the time

hehe its my 8th car, 2nd escort
gonna start on fixing it tomorrow
dreading trying to copy the gasket design onto gasket paper, if i cant ill have to buy a pattern pump from the bay or my local factors
not much of a loss, my bro will be paying for that and they cost less than £20

Re: Mk5b escort 2.0 sapphire
just realised i never did update this..
took the new bent pipe up to the local mechanic for him to flare the ends after i fitted new male/female couplings
with the new pipe made up, i fitted it to the car
also bought a shoddy CD player for it for a tenner
took her for a spin after that and the brakes work fine, needs another bleeding session to get them perfect but its ok for now, considering its not going anywhere, the engine is still pissing water out
and its no where near the speed and power fo the Si for some reason, i figured it be close
how she stands now
