modding 2 ltr zetec

Postby 2_litre_zetec_si on Wed Nov 26, 2003 12:32 am

I am putting a 2 ltr zetec in my si and was wondering what are the best ways of beefing up the power without adding a turbo, throttle bodies or cams.....any ideas would be great..

Even though the 2litre zetec is more tuneable than the 1.6 it is still a N/A engine and is not cheap to tune really. First things are filter, exhaust and chip but you won't get much of a reward for your money really.
Hence why I have a stage 2 head, inlet manifold, matching cams, exhaust, filter, superchip and de-cat and know have a noticeable difference but now requires professionally setting up on a Rolling road.

Cheers.

Lee.

trust zetec do a very nice tubular manifold for 1.8 and 2L zetecs..that might help..

On the 1.8 engine..
a mondeo 2L throttle body(needs a bit of modding) and a 2L airflow meter or turbo diesel one will help the breathing quite a bit....with those,a power boost valve, slight porting and polishing,a unichip and kent cams my old 1.8 did 163bhp and 159lb/ft..

They are called Trust Electrical, they do exhaust manifolds, throttle bodies conversions, and inlet manifolds, which, I think can be used for N/A and turbos. have reprogrammable ecus and mapping facility. Can get em on 01904 608899 and http://www.trustelectrical.co.uk.

It seems to be a good modification. I was thinking of just buying that to go with the engine, but its a bit expensive at the moment as i'm just a poor student!! I phoned the guy at trust electrical about a month ago. It increases the standard engine from 136bhp to 165bhp. The kit includes uprated (and tasty looking!) inlet and exhaust manifolds running off omex management. The kit costs around a grand which isn't bad at all when your talking about 35 bhp! NICE! I want it............

Spoke to the guys from trust at donnington today..they reckon a standard 1.8 with their inlet and exhaust on it will do over 135bhp and increase the low down torque..and with cams 160 is possible..the inlet and exhaust come to about 1200 quid inc vat..cams are around 300 i think..add in a high pressure fuel pump(£80) a pbv(£80) a RR setup(£120) induction kit and exhuast and you are going towards 2 grand.. you could whack in a turbo lump for that... and have a lot more scope for tuning later..

I'd have a turbo over the 1.8 but the 2 litre is a better bet as it is 135BHP standard let alone after replacing cams, inlet etc, and also has scope.

And it is reliable! CVH is old technology but still, turbos are more fun and cheaper to tune. You have to weigh everything up to see what suits you :)

2 litre would be the best bet for any Si owner as it's meant to be a piece o piss to fit yourself and then there's always the possibility of turboing that!!!!

i might try it when the cash arrives!

personally I think a 2l zetec has a much better sound to it when you give it some...def more reliable than a cvh at a high state of tune too..but nothing beats the rush you get from a turbo...so zetec turbo's all round then!
