Modding Fuel supply

Postby Jur on Tue Aug 13, 2002 9:05 am

Hello,

Have been on the dyno this weekend and my 1.6 CVH EFI turbo did great.
Performing 132 BHP@6070!!! RPM and 160Nm (from 2000 - 5700RPM!!!!)

The tuner (Hurricane Racing Engines.. partner of Richter tuning) even said the curves were magnificently smooth.

The engine, except for the K&N 57i is standard, so even:
- standard injectors
- standard 0FAC ECU
- standard exhaust

mileage is about 50k

On the shelf/ordered are:
- on the shelf: 165 superchip (won't give any performance upgrade without modding exhaust, except for a better driveability)
- ordered a magnex exhaust
- on the shelf: Kent cams (ERST)
- on the shelf: ERST gearbox
- Boost-adjustment-wrench (hihi .. oke.. it's a bit lame) is available, so that will be done if exhaust, cam and chip are fitted.

But what more can i do to uprate the fuel supply ?
i've heard of:
- Mondeo (2.0 zetec) injectors
- beige injectors
- adjustable Fuel-pressure regulators (increase of max 70% .. FCS or something)

Other options are:
- cooling the intake are more (bigger intercooler)
- T25 hybrid (don't want the 'turbo hole' .. so no T3 for me)

What options do i really have ??
NE1 have any idea's what it will cost (England .. but mainly on mainland europe)
With the parts on the shelf and ordered it is possible to get 160/170BHP.. but i want more (-:

You`ll end up with 160ish bhp

But what more can i do to uprate the fuel supply ?
i've heard of:
- Mondeo (2.0 zetec) injectors>>>side feed injectors>>don`t fit
- beige injectors>>>>>not needed until 170bhp, and to be honest u need a fully mapable chip when u go past stage 1, ie unichip.
- adjustable Fuel-pressure regulators (increase of max 70% .. FCS or something)>>>>>>>no point the regulator u have on the frst is already adjustable.

Other options are:
- cooling the intake are more (bigger intercooler)>>>defo a good move, allows u to run more boost safely
- T25 hybrid (don't want the 'turbo hole' .. so no T3 for me)>> will allow u to run slightly more boost reliably, but to be honest waste of time if u want 170bhp+as its soo restictive, and just whacking the boost up on it, yes it won`t go bang BUT it will crack all over the place due to size and heat build-up.

What options do i really have ??

hmmz.. summary of what you mentioned to get above 170bph.

- beige injectors
- unichip
- bigger intercooler
- Other Turbo (t3)

Some questions:
The adjustable fuel-pressure-regulator is already installed?
Not on my fuel rail!!. There is a standard fuel-pressure regulator.. nothing to adjust to it (-:

Well.. i just started modding the engine... after driving an xr2 for 2 years and driving an xr2i for 2,5 years (was wrekked by an audi from the back )-: )

I'll reach the 170 mark for certain (-:

yup, u wanna take the bung out of it with a small screwdriver, allen key behind it, but don`t go adjusting it-needs to be done on the rollers.

ON the fuel pressure regulator there is a small (~5mm) cap that needs to be drilled out carefully to reviel a small screw that can be adjusted with an allen key to change fuel pressure. THis is best done by an expert as over or under fueling will damage your engine.
