modifications that insurers wont notice?

Postby GilesFiesta on Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:23 pm

Do insurers actually notice if the car has been subtly modified? Things like, having an Si interior in a lesser model...is that a 'modification'? Taking the badges off...wouldn't that actually LOWER the premium, if putting RS turbo badges on makes it higher?

Even having your car 3cm lower...i'm not sure even i would notice the physical appearance on first glance.

Maybe i'm naive but it's better to find out before slapping a load of stuff on the car and then having the premium hiked.

Anyone had a bump with undeclared 'modifications' and been financially scalded by insurance?

interior mods as youve stated like seats im fairly sure do not matter.

most exterior mods will put your insurance up e.g alloys.

Taking badges off wont do anything but lowering it - not too sure its up to you.

  what i was thinking.

debadging - dont bother letting them know - things you take off the dar you dont have to tell.

things you put on the car that the car didnt come with then let them know.

If it deviates from the manufacturers specification you should declare it to your company. Failure to do so could result in your policy being void and beleive me you don't want to try and get cover once you've had a policy declred void by your insurer as that really will hurt you financially.

Harsh as it sounds, if you can't afford to insure the car don't build it
