Modifying my little zetec

Postby pillby on Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:07 am

Hey
I have done some searching on this site however the search function doesn't really return any relevant results without me having to sift through hundreds of posts that are of no use to me :-?

Anyway my question really is:
I have recently bought a small 1.25 zetec LX and want to do some modifying. I wont be buying a bigger engine for it before you ask.
All i really want is a quicker acceleration time, so what can i do to acheive this?? I have already put a pipercross panel filter for it but this really didnt do much more than increase the volume :)

cheers

B&M short shifter
strip some weight out of it
exhaust system to get those gasses out quicker
there may be a chip for it but im not sure
cams and pulleys

this all will probably cost alot for not much result but should help it to be a bit quicker. you never thought about a puma 1.7 conversion, or a zetec-s engine into it? puma speed/build should be able to help

Oh sorry it is a 16v 1.25 zetec-s (or so the engine cover says lol).

At a later stage i might consider installing a bigger engine but at the moment it isn't possible.
How much will the new cam help??

cheers

well a cam on my engine (1.8 zetec DOHC two cams) adds about 10bhp set up right, so i wouldnt expect much for your engine. because its small and you might consider a bigger engine later on, do you want to be spending this money on it? like how much do you ideally want to spend?
[ERRR] i reckon the best way of making your car quicker for cheaper is to basically strip it of what you dont need, sub, amp, spare wheel, car jack, back seats?, floor mats, it should handle a bit better aswell, have a cold air feed to your airbox (colder the air better combustion, as its denser) and make sure your tyre pressures are correct allways helps lol.
what about light weight alloys like OZ?
you could try a super chip http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/showdetails.php?id=30 or heres the pricey engine conversion http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/showdetails.php?id=256

Dont want to spend huge amounts however ill probably be adding things over time so im not restricted in that respect. Well i think the 1.25 has a 0-60 of 11.8secs or something I wouldnt mind shaving that down closer to 10 for now or even just under 11 would be a result tbh.

Im gonna go for an uprated exhaust system including a 4-2-1 manifold and the sport cat.

Cheers again

as has been mentioned mate, the money you spend modifying that engine, will equate to upgrading to a larger capacity.

its a no brainer :)
