Moondust FRST
Here are some pics of my Fiesta RS Turbo. Some of you may remember it as it was on ebay at the end of last year. Pics from the ebay advert.
To be honest it looks better in the pics, and I should have probably walked away at the time as I knew I was in for some problems, but it was a decent price, silver, tax & mot’d, low owners and had tons of receipts etc. There is a bit of rust on the bodywork, but nothing too major. It also looks like it has all its original panels.
The main problem with the car was it was only running on 3 cylinders and was a bit smokey. Got the car back home & after a few days it started smoking quite bad. Got someone to look at it & the running problem was due to a lifter that had stuck & in turn worn the cam lobe down. A new cam & valve stem oil seals & the car was back running on 4 cylinders but still smoking, so Ive not really used it much since. I have been busy collecting a few parts to get it back standard’ish.
As soon as I got the car back home I was on ebay seeing what parts I could find. First purchase was a set of standard rear lights, and some amber indicator lenses, which was swapped over along with the door cards which had some aftermarket speakers fitted.
Engine Bay when bought.
Since then it’s just been a case of keeping an eye on ebay for other parts I wanted, and over the last few weeks here’s a few things ive bought.
I removed the dump valve (not working right) so as a temporary measure there’s gear knob in its place!!! I also put a standard intercooler back on along with a cambelt cover, and fitted the standard airbox & pipe, crankcase breather and ht lead holder.
Next job on the list was wheels but all the sets for sale seemed miles away, however yesterday managed to pick up a set locally. Not too bad condition, but could do with a bit of tidying.
Wheels now swapped over, so here is the car as it is at the moment.
Once funds allow I will be looking at getting some new hoses, and also getting the turbo swapped or rebuilt as there is some play in the shaft & probably the cause of the smoke.
Hoping to get the car tidied up and also get it out & about in the next few months.

very nice that, remember seeing it on ebay! the bits and bobs that go wrong are inevitable, theres always something! keep on at it, the silver ones are worth keeping, if i could have justified it i'd be keeping mine, but the sensible head kicked in!

Before you going down the car is smoking could be the turbo route have you ruled everything else out like the breathers etc. Was tempted to have a look at this just for the simple reason of the price but the travel was too much. Anyway good luck with sorting it fella

Cheers. Shame yours needed quite a bit of welding, but hopefully someone may save it. Looks like you got a decent replacement

Initially I was hoping the valve stem oil seals would sort it out with the car been stood years but they made no difference. Was then hopeful it could have been something to do with the breathers but checked pipes etc & everything seems ok. There is a bit of play in turbo shaft, so just presumed that would be most likely cause. I'll double check everything before splashing out on a turbo though. Cheers for the advice

Its a thick white/whitey grey smoke. It had the head gasket done when the cam was changed so hopfully that should be ok. Took the turbo & manifold off today & there was oil in the downpipe

exhaust seal on the turbo has gone then mate, only way out is new turbo.
once a new ones is fitted, it may still product smoke for a little while while it burns off whats left in the exhaust, how much and how long depends on how bad the turbo was, so bear that in mind when you restart after replacment
