heeman10 :It's such a sweet little car, cracking :) I miss all those feelings/sounds/smells! Oil cooler will be a must dude, do you have an oil temp gauge in there? I took mine on one single hasty spin and ordered an oil cooler straight away. I actually couldn't do much more than about 4,000rpm giving it welly, otherwise oil temps shot up into worrying territory! Oil cooler sorted all that out with ease :aviator:

Great to hear from you mate! :) No not got an oil cooler gauge at the moment.

At the moment I rarely, if at all take it over 4K RPM anyway as I'm still sort of running it in and its still running on a MK1 Focus RS base-map which is fine at Lamda-1 (i.e closed-loop) when the fuelling is calibrated by the ECU. I don't want to even attempt to drive it in open loop (full throttle) yet as it will try to rely on a map that will be unsuitable for my 2.3 Engine. Lucklily it's so flexible and torquey from really low revs (almost like a diesel - just sounds nicer :P ) that I don't need to work it hard for normal driving conditions :)

Just need to save some pennies and get it mapped properly (after I've finished the en-suite bathroom that I promised Mrs. Esh  )

Ah I seeee! She's just ticking over at the moment then! You will have a ridiculous grin on your face when you drive away from MSD!!! I wish I could be there to see it! It's six years since I was driving away from MSD, and was SO excited and giddy about the fact that I had "so much" power under my right foot that I put off booting it properly for AGES  I couldn't take the excitement  Chills up and down my body each time I used a bit of the torque. Yours will be a little animal dude! I hope the post-bidet mapping isn't too far away!

The way you put it James, I'm half tempted to do this before the bathroom! :oooh: For the sake of my marriage though, I'm finishing the en-suite over Easter Leave which is at the end of April. Once I've finished pouring money into that, I'll see if I still have the sponds for MSD.

They said they'd need the car from Mon-Fri and that it'll be around £500 + Fuel, etc (seems very reasonable). I just need to work out when I could get up there, then factor in train costs etc as I don't think the Army will let me have an extra week off to stay in Blackpool! :bonkers:

Thanks again for the kind words guys :)

Just driven 120 miles back to camp :) Got back fine but the gate guard asked if the car was hungry?

I thought he was just being weird until I saw the chip papers covering my intercooler! Bloody litterbugs - they're doing nothing for my ACT's! :P

Thanks Gareth, much appreciated - I know where you're coming from :) It's been a real struggle with work commitments (2 tours of Afghan, 1 yr posted up North) plus the usual expense of home-ownership and having two kids  . Nearly sacked it off a few times - It's you lot on this forum that's kept me motivated to see it through

Thanks for the kind words :) I drive her occasionaly through the week (based in Arborfield) but mainly just wait until Friday to commute back to Colchester in her on A329M onto the M4 to the M25 and round to the A12 and vice-versa.

Done 1000-ish miles and they've been relatively trouble-free - the only problems I've got at the moment is that the exhaust cooked the handbrake cable (so that it just pulled straight through the plastic adjusters :oooh: ) and that I need to replace the bolts I used to fasten my turbo to the exhaust manifold with proper studs & locking nuts! :aaah:

Other than that, all is good and driving beautifully :Q

Happy with it Jim? Hope everything in there is as it should be!

I will try and get a couple of complimentary copies out to you in the post next week. We're a little tied for time at the moment as deadline for the June issue is next Tuesday thanks to the bank holidays - but I'll get on it next week for you! :)

Epic, epic car though - it was a pleasure to write about and great to see in print. I spent about 10 minutes one day just gawping at the pics on screen, and it's rare that I do that for a feature car! :D

I had a text at 6am today, followed by some photo-messages of the article from a mate who'd bought the mag - After I'd seen that I went straight out (in the Fez :) ) and bought a copy :D

I feel as if that last 3 years of graft have been well worth it now, thanks again :aviator:
