wow, sounds awesome, cant wait till its run in, and ready for some beasting, so you can show us what all the hard work has been for
hats off to you sir, not many people would have the balls to do something like this, let alone the skills to pull it off.
unless Mr Excursion, or Scort get their fingers out and complete the monsters they started you are my idol

Cheers for the kind words guys, much appreciated - I wouldn't have got this far without the encouragement I've had from you lot
This project has tested my patience (my wife's too! ), my skills and cost me lots of money/time - at last I feel like it's all been worthwhile
I should get a few hours on it this week to sort a few things, although I really need to start getting my kit sorted for my deployment in a couple of weeks - I'd say that is more important really... (only just though )

I know where you're coming from mate - they have ways of letting you know when you've spent too much time on the car without actually saying anything! I know when I'm in the doghouse with some of the looks I get when I roll in at 11pm+ after saying I'd only work on the car until 8!

Here you go, as promised - some better quality vids!
A mate at work did one drive-by vid and one static vid today - his phone has better sound quality than my digital camera (I know what I need to buy after tour then! ).
Static vid;
Drive-By vid ;
Hopefully now you can hear more of the deep-chested burble this car has and obviously the chatter! I'm not going too mad behind the wheel for several reasons; The speed limit on camp is just 20MPH , I have still only got the handbrake to stop with obviously I don't want to rag my engine with a new bottom end being run in - barely touched 4K RPM in the drive-by vid.

Learned in college that appreantly, your average tyre has the same amount of area on the road surface as a size 9 trainer per wheel thou which is better than combined llama

Nice one fatty! What joy to be able to propel it around using just the one foot instead of both of them, shoving it backwards and forwards for all this time. It looks brilliant in the bay, I'd love to feel how it responds to throttle on the move. I can imagine the available torque in a car of the Fiesta's weight will make it an absolute joy on the road. Well done dude, well worth doing!!

Crikey haven't heard from you for a while mate! Hope all is well with you?
Yeah the throttle response is pretty instantaneous, hardly any lag whatsoever - Torque also seems to be in abundance
Obviously there's a fair few more powerful ZT's and CVH's out there but headline-grabbing power figures were never the aim with this project - it's just nice to tread a different path sometimes, despite how stress-inducing and difficult it may be!
Going to get it up on the ramps on Friday and hopefully sort a few more little jobs that need doing - brakes for example!

I'd love to see a Dyno plot from this. The extra 300cc should offset the lack of low down torque/response from the excessively large ports yet retain the nice big wallop at the top.
The Turbo and 2.3 are a good match on the HE
What is the spec again in terms of boost? What lb valve springs did you spec for your desired boost?

You're spot-on there mate - that's why I went to all the trouble of shipping a low mileage 2.3 from the States over 2 years ago (before they were used in the MK4 Mondy over here).

At the moment, for running-in etc, it'll just be running whatever boost a standard MK1 Focus RS runs. Once I'm back from tour next spring I'll get it raised to whatever it needs to be for a solid 290-300BHP Max - as I just don't need or want any more, I just want this to be a nice, useable car
The head, cams & valvetrain are all stock US 2.3 Focus items for now, cost and time are the reason that I've not gone into it that deeply yet TBH. Looking on the Focaljet forums in the US, they seem to run fine at normal boost levels on the stock valvetrain.
At some point (when I feel brave enough to rip it all out again! ) I'll get some custom Duratec-Turbo spec cams fitted, uprated sodium-filled exhaust valves and obviously some valve springs specced for the boost I'm using.

Ahh good stuff, like you I think 290-300 is optimal, any more and I think the car will be slowler not quicker!
What are you running at the moment, sub 10psi? I'll be really impressed if the standard valve springs hold more! I wouldn't always believe what you read on the yank forums
It must be nice to have it to drive anyway, it's a project well done.

Yes buddy, it has been a fair old while! I'm still breathing thanks! I hope you're all well too
As Mark says, the torque you should have just by having the larger capacity should make off-boost and low engine speed driving far better than the 1.8 and 2.0 turbo engines. I get quite annoyed by massive power cars turning up in magazines when they're road cars, because you just know what they'll be like to use. With the huge turbo's required to make that power, the modulation of on/off-boost power needs such fine control that 1mm either side of "the point" either means bogging down and opening the dump valve, or squirming around because you're now pushing past 25psi in the inlet manifold! 300bhp/tonne with good tyres and suspension is a nice figure for a fast road car IMO

Re: Moondust K-Reg MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo. NEW BETTER VIDEOS 4/10
Right, that's the car under wraps again until I'm next back in the UK
I spent a few hours today giving it a good wash and polish, hoovered the interior out then took it for a 5 mile drive around the camp (camp's massive )
Let it run for a fair while to totally cure the stinky thermotec graphite exhaust wrap.
Brakes all work brilliantly.
The Focus RS Boost Guage is working correctly.
I have now fitted a Sierra Cosworth fan switch into my top-hose which energises the fan relay in my Focus fusebox - brings my fans on a bit earlier than the 112-114 degrees that Focus RS ECU switches the fans on at!
Really is a joy to drive - If it had tax/MOT/Insurance, I'd have spent all day out in it on public roads
I've left full instructions with the car and the keys with trustworthy people, so if it needs moving again it hopefully won't get damaged (like it did last year )
I will drive it again when home on R & R. Got a few bits and pieces to do when I get home properly then I'll hopefully be driving it to FITP 2011
Bye for now
