jayrs :were you not tempted with cossie leather?
I had Escort Cossie leather in the 2i Jay so just went for something different. The cloth feels much more supportive. Personally I love it

Really looks great, and lots of work gone into getting all the underside of the car done as well?
Looks mint now, can't fault it however I do think if the rear lights were completely tinted all across it would look great.

Too much money has gone into it you meen!
New tailgate decal. Subtle but to people who know it gives a slight hint.
My inlet manifold is at A&H Fabrications being modded for the fuel rail and throttle body , will be ready on Friday 19th, zvh oilway ally bungs being machined as we speak and then hopefully the engine can go in. Want to built the enigne in situ before putting it in the bay.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. 7 DEC Leather GONE! New Recaros...
First off some bad news. I've got a local company making my some aluminium oil gallery bungs. They said they would be ready Wednesday, but they weren't so told me to collect today, so I went and they are closed untill the new year I was hoping to have the engine in before I go away on the 2nd Jan but that won't be ahppening now.
Good news though. Some nice early Christmas presents for me. The girlfriend isn't having any now as I'm broke, but I'm sure she'll understand.
Picked up my inlet from AH Fabrications. Great lads they really are.
I just hope after all this effort it actually works!
New exhaust. The 3" Magnex just wasn't the look I wanted. It did sound lovely though. So I've opted for a 4" Rolled out Mongoose.
Innovate Motorsports LC1 Wideband Lambda kit.
Bailey oil seperator.
And the mess that awaits when I can get some time off.
The pile is slowly decreasing though!
One thing though before I build the enigne, as its so dusty up the barn I need to clean the bottom end and head up before I build it up. Whats the best way of doing this? Steam clean?

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo.19DEC Inlet back,Zorst,Wideband Lambda
Cheers Tony. I'll be happy when its on the road, but I should imagine it won't ever be finished. There will always be soemthing I'll want to change. I think the car stands at owing me about 8k So far
Finally got my aluminium blanking plugs. I emailed Ian Howell and he said the best thing to do was get 3x 16mm bungs and 1 x 14mm which is slightly larger than the hole, slightly tapperd on the one end then just hammer the f**k out of them untill they sit flush with the block, so thats what I did.
Then with not much else I could do I set about fitting the interior. This was a bit of an arse ache as they had the rear mounts cut off and replaced with home made ones that weren't up to scratch. So I had to make my own rear mounts.
Next problem was the EsCos seats have a tilt mechanisim to optimise the driver position. Sadly, this fouls the chassis rail that runs through the middle of the car.
* Firstly I tried to raise the seat mounts so it would clear the chassis rail. this though made the seat too high. My legs touched the stearing wheel!
* Then I removed it completely and it was very uncomfotable, with the seat tilting too far back.
So I knocked up this;
It's not in situ ajustable as you have to take the seat off to adjust it, but I've set it so I'm comfortable and I'm the only one whos going to be allowed to drive it so suits me.
And in;
With the front in (haven't done passenger side yet, Ran out fo gas on the welder) I set about fitting the rears.
Rear bench is too wide and sat about inch too far foward. So I removed the foam from the tray and looked at what needed cutting.
These corners being the reason.
Cut Off
some drilling to the mounts and some fiddling later and Voila. As I ran out of gas I haven't welded the front seat mount tabs to hold the rear bench on. A job for tomorrow.
Only problem is, on the RST bench the backs have a recessed lock with bars on the car and the EsCos have bars that lock into the car. So the backs don't currently lock in place. I'm going to have a look tomorrow if I can cut the lock out of the RST seats and weld them into the EsCos backs then it will lock in place.
More updates no doubt tomorrow.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. Escort Cosworth Interior in....ALMOST
What a s**t day! Boring read but....
Started off at 10am went to build the engine. Degreased and cleaned it all, ready for assembly. Went to fit the head and noticed that the cylinder 4 inlet valve wasn't fully sealing when the valve was closed. So had to run the head down to my brother who thankfully was about to go on lunch and re ground it infor me. brilliant.
Took the head home, built it all up with the manifolds etc. Put it on the block and the headbolts wouldn't fit through the bolt holes! They are the same re-usable headbolts I took off this enigne so couldn't understand why they didn't fit. Of course it's a new head to the old one but thought alll the holes were the same?
The two bolts together. CVH and 12mm ZVH bolts. You can see just how "beefier" the ZVH bolts are!
I came on here and read up nothing about having to re drill the head, so went down to my local fastners with the CVH headbolts off my old engine and got a set of 10 but in 150 length. Took them up to the yard they fitted the head perfectly but would screw into the Zetec block and if I wriggled then and pulled they would pull out of the threads? The only thing I could think was the engine builder drilled the CVH out to accept a larger/stronger headbolt. So thats what I did. Drilled the headbolt holes out to 12.2mm and I've fitted the head with the original 12mm ZVH bolts.
That also meant I had to completley strip the head bare and clean all the swarf out the re build it!
Then with these little set backs out the way I went about building the engine.
Focus RS Headgasket
And built
Inlet set up.

They are very late model Escort cosworth recaros. i got this set very cheap I thought. £400 I think they were. Fit a Fiesta? You can make anything fit We've put a set in my brothers MK3 Fiesta as well.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. 28 FEB. Engine Built. What a BALLACHE!
Step closer to getting the engine in the car. Started off by drilling and tapping the inlet for the throttle body.
Then I fitted up the gearbox as the new Ford bearing arrived. 40 bloody quid!
Then I thought well the engine was out of the car I might as well fit a new water pump. What a bodge that turened out to be!
This was the "ZVH water pump plate"
Its was a complete mess. Designed to keep the 1.6 CVH tensioner and use the existing zetec water pump holes Whoever build this engine needs to be shot.
So got a proper water pump plate, drilled and tapped the block and fitted a new water pump.
You can see why you should use the 1.3 tensioner.
Drilled and tapped the tensioner holes and fitted it.
Now I'm putting the cranck position sensor on I need some help. This was also badly fitted so need to know how everone else has theres fitted.
Thinking about mounting it through the water pump?
Also what sort of distance should the sensor be from the 4 tooth disk?

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. 28 FEB. Engine Built. What a BALLACHE!
ENGINES IN!
Just needs everything connecting up now.
Wasn't really happy with my front brakes and these came up cheap. Would have been rude not to.
Looks alot better. But then obviosuly my wheels didn't fit, and "my spare" set of 17's look crap. Cue these which should arrive in the next few days....
wrapped in 205/40/17 Kumho Ecsta KU31's.
Next up the timing. Need abit of help here. I know it would have been easier to do the cambelt out of the car, but the engine hoist had to go back Monday morning and I wont get the chance to use it again for some time.
I rotated the crank untill i piston one was at TDC and marked it...
Then looking at my standard pully I saw that the arrow for Cam TDC was directly opposite the woodruff key so set the cam to this but saw the timing disc lugs dont look right to me. Lugs circled. Arrow at TDC?
Any advise before I put the belt on?

All sorted now. The phase disc had been locked in the wrong place. So its all timed up nicely ready to properly set up.
Props to Reyland as well. I phoned Martin asking if he could match a certain competitors prices on an assortement of stack gauges and he knocked 10% off their prices for me! Legend! So should have some nice Stack gauges arriving any day to keep an eye on whats going on inside the engine.
Won't be long now

I like them because the look like they could be standard equipment. Plus they light up orange like the standard dials. I'm sure you could change the filter to green tho?
