jonyb4 :dont understand why the relays needs to be there though, but looks very good

Race car style, so everything is easily accessable and close to hand. I like that look in a track car.

FRSJON :nice one mate, something i wish id done :)

Something to think about, Jon? It's pretty easy to do, to be fair. Fingers crossed it works ...

Few new bits bought for the car.

Not much of an update but got a few more bits in paint. My rocker cover and fuel rail are at AH Fabrications getting JIC fittings welded on and a new oil catch can is being made. I also picked up my new fuel swirl pot off them with JICs. GOne for a 1l item to keep it nice and small and I've worked out at full load it will give me 30 seconds of surge protection, which is plenty.

Image

That soon went matt black with the rest of my little bits which needed doing, FPR, fire extinguisher mount and clutch master cylinder.

Image

and my alloy fuel filter

Image

I've put an order in withTorques for all the JIC fittings and teflon hose I need to finish the car (about 20!) so they should arrive in time for when I'm next home and able to work on the car.

Only did a few hours this morning as I have to go pick the mrs up from work, so decided to finish my fusebox panel.

Decided to move the kill switch to the little panel on the dash where the speaker thingy goes to free up some room for the switches.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The engine start button has gone in it's place along with switches for fan over ride, fuel pumps, anti lag and ignition relay and a spare for when I need it. Still need to buy a horn button and put it in the top right corner.

Image

Image

Also got rid of the fire pull as I'm now using an electrical system.

Mounted the fire controller into the dash.

Image

Done all the wiring I can outside of the car. Now I need to connect it to the car loom and power source then make the looms up for headlights, horn, thermostat etc.

Thought it's about time I got the fuel system installed. Decided that the fuel pumps looked odd, one being dull silver, the other being an off-gold colour, so decided to paint them. Found an unmarked tin of 1k in my workshop and it turned out to be a matt Battleship Grey type colour so thought I'd see how they came out, and love it! Great colour for the pumps.

Image

While I was at it I painted the fuel rail, catch can, rocker cover, and oil separator matt black and treated them to the new style AH decals.

Image

I didn't like how blingy the Fuelab reg looked with the silver bottom, and the badly etched idiot instructions on the front so I filed them off and gave it a coat of matt black too. The blue I can live with as it matches the fittings.

Image

Proper bulkhead fittings. I needed to knock up some spacers for them to sit properly.

Image

Image

All fitted up

Image

Time to make some fuel lines. Luckily, some of my existing braided fuel lines had barbed connectors on already to join to the fuel tank ect, so these were made useful.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The accumulator has been removed and the filter now sits where this was.

Image

Catch can fitted

Image

Next thing was where to mount the breather and regulator. I decided to mount them on the strut brace so knocked up a few mounts for these.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

While I had the welder out I decided to knock up a mount for the rear tow strap.

Image

Image

Image

and got a small job out of the way mounting my cooling fans.

Image

Image

Image

Engine bay as it stands.

Not had much time to work on the old girl lately due to work and no money due to getting married in November, but had a little play with the front bumper today. While the cooling package will certainly be effective, using anything resembling a standard front bumper is completely out of the question, so had to get creative.

My already modified bumper before I started.

Image

Due to where the pipe work needs to go some of the bumper foam needed removing. As its a track car I decided to remove all of the foam out of the bumper and the original mounts and have a little trim to get it to roughly fit and cut the holes for Aerocatches.

Image

Trail fit and it's all good. Needs some filler here and there but at least I know a front bumper fits! You can see in the pictures how big it is!

Long time no see/speak!

Car is looking great, can I ask what size those fans are? They look like Kenlowe's? Mine have a load of plastic grates over and look a lot thicker. Are they OK exposed to possible debris and rain like that? Or are they dry weather only?

They are 10 inch Kenlowes, Max. They will be fine on the front like that. I shouldn't think rain would cause a problem? Debris wise, not too fused if they are damaged. I would rather replace a fan than the intercooler!

Bit of an update:

The main effort the last few days has been to trim back the rear arches to stop the rear wheel rubbing. Can't make that any more exciting than it is.

Image

Image

Image

and done. The wheels don't catch at all now, so I'm happy.

Image

Image

Image

Apparently I do a lot of this when I work on the car

Image

A few pics of some odd jobs I've squared away.

Made up some 170MPH dials.

Image

Done the hydraulic clutch

Image

Image

Made some small carbon fibre mudguards with a odd piece of carbon I had kicking around.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I also wasn't happy with the rear brake lines as they ran very close to the tyre, so I've replaced with with proper 90 degree bulkhead fittings and re made the rear lines.

Yeah, it's a straight fit. Removed the servo and bolt this on the existing mounts. As to how good it performs, though, I couldn't tell you I'm yet to test it.

Well, it's been a long time coming, but I bothered my ass to tidy the workshop up. It probably didn't look too bad in the pics, but it was seriously, seriously untidy! To the point where it wasn't a nice place to work on the car, hard to actually find anything, tools missing etc.

Wheeled the car back and this is the state of it.

Image

I also decided I wanted my locker down at the bottom of the workshop and have the work bench back to work on.

Image

And all clean.

Image

Image

Image

I might be a little more enthusiastic to actually work on it now.

Finally got round finishing my fuse box build. As with pretty much everything, I do something, am not happy with it, so do it again

Nice package from Polevolt. New cable where needed, and proper connectors and covers.

Image

Bit of a difference between the old looms and the new ones!

Image

New fan loom.

Image

New headlight looms

Image

Image

Fuse and relay set up all wired up.

Image

Image

Image

Then I needed to put the dash in to see how much cable length I needed to reach etc and thought I'd have a little test fit.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now all that's needed is to wire up the gauges and the rocker switches and hopefully the wiring is all finished.

The wiring is a massive hurdle, as when finished I can then fit the dash and put the seats in and the interior is complete.
