Muz's Escort RS Turbo TRACK CAR. Lancia Integrale bonnet on
Muz's Escort RS Turbo TRACK CAR. Lancia Integrale bonnet on
I've had a few PM's asking what car is replacing the Fiesta so I thought I'd share. The car realy was far too good to pass up, then getting an insurance quote for under £700 made it even more tempting. Even though I would prefer a Fiesta, Escorts have never really done it for me, and I also wanted a meaty N/A engine not Turbo, but this will do very nicely.
Only the one crappy pic at the moment. Basically the story goes my brother works with a lad who is selling the car and mentioned to my brother that he needed to get rid of his 1988 Escort RS Turbo as he was off into the army and couldn't store it any longer. He took it off the road 8 years ago when he was 20, had it completely stripped and re sprayed, brand new genuine bonnet, wings, boot lid, rear arches etc and in the process of putting it back together had a couple of kids and just lost interest and never put it back together. He hasnt even put the New Ford Badges or boot decals on! He just used to take it out of the garage once every 6 months and wash it. The paint finish is absolutely spot on suberb and was sprayed at Hertwell Ford of Hereford, costing a fair whack. The sunroof is mint, whch they alway aren't the arches and floor totally solid, even my brother was impressed. Its got 44k on the clock but no history so we dont know if its genuine but looking at the condition I would say its not far off.
Engine wise its got a Cam, ported and polished head, low comp forged pistons, 5th injector, full stainless exhaust with K&N, a stage 2 T3 turbo, chargecooler, cossie brakes, and has a Dyno print off for 223BHP. It also killed the standard gearbox at this point so its only got a Diesel box in.
To complete it it needs a spoiler, turbo and manifold bolting on, new cam belt and new headgasket just for peice of mind. Picking it up Sunday and it will be going straight down my brothers garage to be bolted together and MOT'd.
Plans are to fit the following which I already have in the garage;
Fit Leather Recaros
Wilwoods
B&M
GRS alloy rad
my wheels
90 Spec rear spoiler
Then later,
Front mount cooler
CTS 2+ Box
Rear Discs
Maybe 90 Spec bumpers
then whatever else come along.
Think
......All for £1500. I think thats a bit of a bargin.

Bargain and a half!
You could probably put it back together and sell it for £4k all day long!
Shame to see it take the place of the fiesta though...

Re: RS Turbo ownership. My reason for breaking the Fiesta.
I know. Its a steal for what the car is, and I have alot of parts in the garage to make it a very useable car. He says hes got 6k's worth of receipts as well.
It'll never be in my eyes as good as the Fiesta could of been, but I'm happy enough to compromise.
Just want to go collect it now and take soem proper photos.

Re: RS Turbo ownership. My reason for breaking the Fiesta.
Yep, My brother picked it up at 7am and took it to work this morning for a new headgasket, cam belt and to check and fit the turbo. Hes poked a hole in the boot floor which he has now cut out and replaced. But says he hasnt found any other rot which is nice I'll get some better pictures of it tonight.
Hopefully I will get My wheels on it this weekend, maybe get underneith it with my red Hammerite and get it taxed, MOT'd and insured for next weekend. Cant wait

We'll see how it goes Ryan I think. My brothers told me not to sell my 2.0 Zetec and build a ZT but that will be a long way in the future. I might EFI it if I can get it cheap enough

More pictures. Has to put it on my drive as they needed the space at work. So got the trusty old Scirocco out and towed her home.
Hopefully my turbo gaskets will arrive tomorrow so my bro can get on with putting it back together.
The car needs a damn good wash as its filthy. I'll treat it to a good scrub on Sunday.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. New pictures.
Very pissed off. Woke up this morning and my turbo gaskets still havent come So I couldn't fit the turbo and start putting all the hoses back on. I will be getting a set of coolant hoses by the end of next week but wanted to start it up today . So with that I got cracking else where.
My new plates and tailgate decal came though, so I fitted those.
Then I finshed putting the GRS alloy rad in. Looks much better.
Leather Recaros have also found a new home.
Then the Exhaust manifold went on which I wrapped Sunday. They are a sod to wrap properly!
Then I got bored and decided to crack on with Hammeriting the arches and floor. A job I happen to hate very very much.
Took the arch liners off and was expecting there to be lots of rusty scabby bits. .....
But was pleasently supprised. So gave the inner wing and arches a good couple of coats then desided to do the hubs, anti roll bar and brake lines while I was at it. Only finished this one side though.
Thought it would be nice to injecter a little colour into it. Hopefully get the rest done when I can get it on a ramp.
Got a full set of 195/45/16 Toyo proxies on their way so Should have my wheels on sometime next week.
Got a MF2 ERL 5th injecter ecu coming as my 5th injecter was hard wired and permanantly on, which I'm not happy with.
Parts on the shopping list for this month;
Rear Discs
Front mount cooler with twin fans
Silicon hoses
some caliper brackets made so i can use my Wilwoods,
and a trip to FORTUNE-PVE for a set up.

Tell me about it You should have taken a closer look when you were up.
Got my wheels done today. New valves, tyres fitted and fully balenced for........£25 Bargin! Added to fact I only paid £130 for a brand new set of 195/45/16 Toyo Proxies makes its even better.
Put the one wheels on....
Then remembered I havent got the locking wheel nut key So cant do the rest untill tomoz.
Got some parts on the way though.
Got Dan's (purple_fiesta) 5th injector kit, as I dont trust mine.
Set of red Samco's
RS Smoked rear lights
Set of G-Max (yes I know, G-s**t) shocks with 40mm Lowering springs, just to use for now. My rear shocks are leaking, fronts are standard and it has standard springs, so this is just temp and they only cost me £50
GRS front mount cooler
and looking for a set of 4 Pots for the front.
Hopefully some better updates next week.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. UPDATE 11-June
Lovely Job Needs those lowering springs on though and I'm still trying to find a red spoiler!
Also put a new set of plugs on it and a new fuel filter but it still wont start
It seems like there is alot of pressure in the fuel system ( with the ignition turned off after trying to start if you undo the banjo's on the filter fuel sprays everywhere, but there is no fuel getting to any of the cylinders/spark plugs so I think the metering head is blocked/broken. Hopefully A new one of those should sort the problem out.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Wheels on.
Saw these on eBay and thought I'd give it a go. I think they look pretty damn good. Done all 4 wheels and it only took 20 mins. They are only vinal so can be taken off whenever, but also, I'm told, wont wash off. For only £4 can't go wrong.
And also this arrived today.
I now have 2 "5th injecters" and the MF2 can handle 4 injectors so a twin injector set uo might be looked into. We shall see.

My brothers going to build me a zetec turbo as my engine hasn't sold and is the ideal base, so the 5th injector should sort things out for now.
I got the pinstripes off ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=003
to be honest they look real good for the money, form a foot away you cant tell its a sticker.
Dan- Yeah got it fine. How come everything I buy off you is filthy
