Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo.Rear Brembos and Straight cut box
Right fitted my new Grop A coil, new eads, new spark plugs, new dizzy cap and rota arm and its unning alot nicer. Still needs a good set up.
I finally got the courage to fit them and very nearly ballsed it up....
Marked it out
Cut it out. First skin through. My arse was twitching by this point I can tell you!
And one side fitted.
Then I called my brother over to show him the finished side feeling rather proud of my work and he said "So you didn't think to measure the other side and mark it out first then before cutting a hole in your freshly painted, perfect bonnet then you fudgekin gammon slipper!.....that will be a no then!"
So the other side took alot more measuring to get it right In fact took 3 attempts to get it to match the other side.
And finally finished

I saw an ERST with them on straight on ebay and just thought they looked thrown on and not quiet right. Although that would have been easier.
Bonnet is very heavy Carbon is something to think about when I'm not so severly in debt

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. Aerocatches fitted.
Done the MK5 Escort clutch quadrent mod today. I think I've found a new "Worst Job" for the car
Standard pedal box out.
MK5 bits
and together
And also tidied up my work area.
I also had a word with "the" Phil Collins, local Ford driving rally driver, and he's put me onto Quick Motorsport, who handliy are only 2 miles away from my lock up, who are going to take a quick look at the car and tell me why its overfueling. He seems to think its a dodgy map sensor? But they do loooooads of Cosworth rally cars so should be able to sus it pretty quickly.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. MK5 Escort clutch pedal mod.
And its on the road! Dropped it off this morning to have the Tracking, camber and caster all set up, then I'm going to put some new spark plugs in it as I think the bad overfueling might have damaged them as its missing and hesitating on boost.
Over fueling has been sorted. The insulation on the MAP sensor wires had worn through so the wires were touching, shorting it out so throwing in full fuel. My AFR is now 14-15 rather than 9-10 so I'm happy
We'll see how it goes.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. 10 JULY ITS ON THE ROAD
Well Quick Motorsport rang me and its blacking the plugs up quite bad, and my wideband AFR wasn't calibrated properly as I forgot I disconnected the battery So they took it up the road and said that it's rich at idle and leans out dangerously over 3k RPM. It was running so lean that the turbo was spooling up at 1500RPM Only thing I can think of is that I've got a 4WD loom, not a 2WD loom and a PF09 throttle body. S0 reversing the TPS wires thinking it was a 2WD loom is making the TPS read backwards. He's switching the wires tonight and letting me know how he gets on.
Other thing is I've got very bad fuel surge round sharp corners so he also thinks my fuel pump is shot Oh the joys of owning these cars!

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. 10 JULY ITS ON THE ROAD
And its good news! It'll be at Ford Fair!
Turns out there was some dodgy wiring that needed sorting out and the fuel pump was goosed. as only supplying 25PSI
SO they have fitted a Focus WRC 400 litre per hour pump as they replace them in the rally cars every 500miles so have a few spares.
And hats off to Jano @ Oddkiddcreations. He said its one of the best mapped cars he's ever driven and is a credit to who ever did it. He said he's never been in a car with a T34 spool up so fast, it's got mountains of torque and is quick as buggery! Which for someone who races 500BHP Cosworths is saying something.
I can't wait to drive it. I pick it up (and pay the bill ) Tomorrow morning, then its off for MOT.

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. Brembos are here. The Love is back.
Cheers guys. Baically don't know how many people know the story but the cars been giving me greif. Not running properly and its most probbly due to the fact thats I rushed the car and cut corners to et it to Ford Fair. So, after a good chat with Jano @ Oddkiddcreations I've desided to sell my engine, build a Zetec Turbo from scratch with proper rods and pistons and while I'm at it, paint the engine bay and hide the wiring loom. The bay is the only bit of the car the previous owner didn't paint, and its had at least 3 engine swaps so has seen better days and the old MFI system has so much wiring I dont need!
So spent today on the strip down. I've done it so many times it only took a matter of hours to get it to this
Lets do it properly this time eh?

I'm lucky really its a very solid car so I only have to spend money on parts and not bloody body work. The only bit of welding needed is the patch next to the fuse box, about the size of a 5p I had to bodge with a patch for the MOT and looking at its driving me mad as its visable

Re: Muz's Escort RS Turbo. Engine out and stripped....
Well the plan to go Zetec Turbo is out of the window for now. Had a £2.5k equipment bill from work I've had to pay so a quick solution was needed.....So I found this, a fully forged ZVH bottom end, so I can just bang my head and manifolds on it and be rolling again.
Spec is;
re bored 2.0 Bottom end,
PEC forged rods,
Accrlilite forged pistons skimmed to give 7.7:1 comp ratio with a MLS headgasket.
ARP rod bolts
All new water and oil pumps and CVH tensioner etc all fully converted.
Will be tidying this up and we should be away again before long.
