The pics dont do the wheels justice they look just as chunky as Cossies rims in the flesh. They tyres are 195/45/16 Toyo Proxie 4's. Got a set off eBay brandnew for £130
I like the pin striping so they are staying

I was praising the wheels not saying they look narrow, I think the pinstripes look ok on the EDAN RST as its more modified

haha I realised that Max no worries, they just still dont look as nice in photos, might be the matt laquer. EDAN is a stunning car. It made the escort made sence looking at that. I'm just trying not to make a replica of Daves car

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Stone Chipped, Lowered,Failed MOT
Got a bit further with the Escort. Started off with the stone chipping. Got the entire floor and rear arches done.
ust need to get underthere with my red Hammerite now.
Also got the G-Shonk shocks and 35 mm drop springs on.
Car then went in for it MOT on saturday.......and FAILED which I was expecting it to. The MOT was free so just did it to see what it would fail on. Firstly we pulled out of the estate and heared a weird grinding noise. So pull over lift the bonnet and somehow the alternator fan caught my recently fitted Samco lower rad hose and ripped it to bits SO had to put the standard one back on.
What the car Failed on. All 16 Points ;
*Rear plate lamp out - Now fixed
* Wiper blade - Now replaced
* Wiper blade - Now replaced
* Indicators not working
* NS headlight not working on dipped
* OS headlight not working on dipped
* " " on main
* " " on main
all these turned out to be a broken stalk so on the look out for one.
* Welding on boot floor - Being done on next MOT
* Rear brake hose touching tyre - Now re located
* Wheel Bolt
* Wheel Bolt
* Wheel Bolt
* Wheel Bolt - Had to remove the locking nuts with a remover as I didnt have the key. These have now been replaced.
*OS rear parking brake little effort. Need new cylinder whcih will be done on next MOT
So all in all I'm actually very happy as its all an easy fix. I was expecting all sorts of expensive things. My brother did say though that it drives like a heap and needs totally polybushing. Think the only way to do it is to rip everything off, hammerite it black, bush it then re fit it.
Also got my insurance prices down to the princly sum off.......
...... £549.39! Not bad at all.

The car needs a new gearbox so i'm trying to sell the Zetec engine to buy a stage 2+ CTS so I can't be bothered fitting the B&M yet. I might get my brother to do it when its down at his work this week. Desperatly needs polybushing though

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Cossie 4 POTS
Almost ready for the road. Insurance starts Monday.
Slapped the trade plates on it and took it in to do some welding at my brothers work. I love how layed back his boss is.
Got the two scabby bits in the boot done. SO thats everything done that needed for the MOT on Saturday.
Im going to seam seal it and maybe smooth it into the floor with body filler so it looks tidy before I paint it.
Also found an RSOC tax disc holder on eBay and these cool looking "stealth blades"
Stage one of Red floor.
Unfortunatly it takes 3 coats of hammerite to stop the black stone chip showing through so its going to be a long old job.
Also got these to fit
As she stands
Really do need that spoiler to arrive.
and a quick video of the drive home.

I've replaced the '88 spec interier with my leathers and got a '90 spec spoiler on the way. I will propably get a 90 spec front bumper as they, in my opinion look nicer. I'm loving turbo surge though

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Welding done. GRS with Kenlowes.
Insurance started Yesterday so its finally on the road. I drove it a mere few miles and disaster struck. The water pump failed. So an emergncy trip to my brothers work and £120 of mates rates saw her with a new water pump and cambelt fitted in 37 minutes! Top work.
Treated her to a new Kenwood head unit installed it, drove it for the rest of the day then I noticed my rev counter had stopped working then 1/2 mile later she completely dies on me. Wouldn't start, fuel pump didnt prime. . . . . . alternator had died.
Luckly I have 3 in the shed so got my brother to drive out and rescue me and do a road side repair. And now we're away. All he would say was "this is RS ownership, get used to it. Might as well leave your credit card on file at the garage from now on".
So now just enjoying driving it. But not the associated fuel bills

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Welding done. GRS with Kenlowes.
Got the GRS fornt mount and Kenlowe fans on. Desided to go for a 90 spec front bumper in the end with some chopping. Looks fooking awsome.....isn't cooling too well though. Need to move the rad closer to the cooler or squeeze another fan in between the two. The chatters bloody louder now though
Also bolted my spoiler up. Finishes the car off nicely I think.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Welding done. GRS with Kenlowes.
That looks wicked! Like how you have squeezed it behind the bumper. I couldnt manage that becouse I have a fan on my rad inbetween aswell so I ended up modding my bumper.
i found the water temps still got pretty high at times in traffic though.
Needs a big 3-4" rolled out pipe on the back now

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Welding done. GRS with Kenlowes.
I have chopped the s**t out of the bumper to get it to fit like that, which I'm very happy with. However, I've just measured it and I've got a gap of 2inches between the rad and cooler as I've mounted the GRS slightly further forward, so my fans are having no effect AT ALL. I dont want to put the fans on the back so I'm going to see if I can squeeze another fan in between the two tomoz. Does need a bigger tailpipe though

mate i think you need to take it steady as said i'm pretty certain your car is overboosting .... i asked a person or two and the pipe work sounds wrong!? get that guage fitted pronto and dont rev it hard etc as your gonna kill it if is running directly off the turbo we dont want that... PS i'll be leaving to FF frm ludlow!

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. Welding done. GRS with Kenlowes.
Basically the hose set up is like this;
Charge carrier - Top of intercooler
Bottom of Turbo - Bottom of intercooler
Top of turbo - side of metering head
actuator take off - bottom of charge carrier
Does this sound right? Boost gauge is reading like this; (ford racing gauge)
When the car is off is at 0 (obviously)on idle is at 10 in the vacuum section, when I'm driving at light[*] throttle its at 20 in the vacuum section, 3/4 throttle its at 10, full throttle (off boost) it climbs up as the turbo kicks in, then on full boost its showing about 22PSI Is it over boosting set up like this?

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
As said Muz, thats to much boost fella, 16-18 psi max I would say.
Its been 3 years since I had my (White ) S2,
so can't remember the plumbing for the boost pipes
but do not boot it until you've had it checked over or set up by somebody.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
That looks confusing, if the pipe coming off the actuator goes to the bottom of the charge carrier (never seen this before) where does the pipe coming of the front housing of the turbo go???
Is the amal valve still connected?? if not then i don't see why you can't fit the pipe from the actuator to the turbo with a bleed valve in the middle and set to a safe boost pressure for your set-up, say 15psi.
I can't understand why it would need to go to the charge carrier, i don't think mine was ever like that on either my S1 or S2

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
the vacuum pipe from the actuator should either go to
a) one side of the amal valve, the vacuum hose from the turbo to the other side of the amal valve (this then will be controlled by the ecu)
b) connect them together (from actuator straight to turbo) this will give you the actuators boost level)
c) connect them togther but with a mbc connected in the middle and set the boost your self!
if im right in thinking, the way you have it, the actuator is staying shut hence getting maximum boost pressure! not a good thing, it will damage something if it continues to run at 22psi.

garyhurn77 : it will damage something if it continues to run at 22psi.
It will need a fifth injector to deal with that pressure, take the pipe off the bottom of the charge carrier and block, then just run from actuator to turbo and that'll run fine at the pressure set by the actuator.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
I`ve got a 5th injector set up still to fit which I may bolt up tomoz which should help then. One of the mods on the RSOC site said he has done a similar thing and its actually perfectly safe. Its done to hold boost better. But needs to be set up to check its not providing too much boost for the engine to handle. I`ll just be careful with my right foot for now

I think the best thing to do is plug everything up and take to a tuner, i have had bad experiences with garage tuning before, it always ends up expensive and very annoying.

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
mate way over boosting!!!!!!!!!! your aetup should be running 10psi max! the boost pipework on the turbo is totaly wrong!!! hence i said to you dont put your foot in! seriously need to take it easy on the throttle! basically you need to find out where the std pipework goes and replumb that in!!! i'm sure it goes to the metering unit some how! which adusts with the boost!? you need to take it easy till your pipes are right as said your spec 10psi max!!!!!

Re: Escort RS Turbo ownership. HELP NEEDED. OVERBOOSTING???
Well I've had some talks with the MOD on the RSOC club site and he said basically its fine as his, and others run this set up to hold boost better and as its been done properly, i.e take off ally welded to the charge carrier etc its been done for a reason when the 5th Injector was added. My bottom end was re built with low comp Mhale pistons apparently, so it should take reasonable boost. Hes assured me it will be fine to get to FF on sunday as long as I keep to low boost when overtaking etc and get it set up as soon as possible.
