dont go on here say mate go on FACT.... the boost is to br frank too much if theres std pistons there good for 15-16 psi the fueling imo sounds all wrong on there you need to wind the actuator down and run about 10psi till your sure you have the correct fueling/ 5th inj all correct in there it all sounds a bit rushed before you had it to me!? you honest dnt know what pistons are there or how the pipes shold be, so just fitting a 5th inj isnt gonna solve the equation IMO... yes come to FF but either turn the boost down or take it real steady or you could be goign home on a tow truck :(

22psi aint safe on standard engine mate, my cvh ran 15psi and 20psi when I felt silly! Stu at msd said 15psi was safe for my old spec which had a power engineering bottom end

Absolutely, it's better being safe than sorry as £1k for a decent bottom end you could do without.

I had the bank holiday weekend to swap my fooked gearbox to my new Quaifed LSD box. I think I got a bit carried away

Off to the barn

Image

Spent most of Sunday afternoon taking my gearbox out, dealing with all the abs s**t etc, then decided as I've got looooads of new parts on the way, I might aswell strip the car ready for its new engine and brakes etc.

SO out with the engine....

Image

Image

The engine is for sale if anyone is interested. Kent cam, 5th injector, P+P head, Stage 2 T3 etc about 200BHP.

Started to remove all the removable parts and give them a good coating of Hammerite.

Image

Image

And attacking the floor as I go.

Image

Hi-Spec 270mm rear disc brake kit to go on.

Image

Full Poly Bush Kit.

Image

Front Koni Adjustables

Image

and the engine that is going in......

Image

2.1 zetec bottom end
Accralite pistons
felpro head gasket
stage 3 head
kent cvh34 cam
uprated springs and lifters
cosworth management
4x4 loom and sensors
dark green injectors
level 8 pectel board
vernier pulley
cranck reground and balanced
rods balenced
fly wheel lightened
4x4 turbo
ap racing paddle clutch
somcos
piper cross air filter

So this is how it stands.

Finished off stipping the rest of the parts. Took off fuel tank, rear anti roll bar, rear suspention arms etc etc so I could paint the floor.

Now I remember why after painting the underside of my Fiesta I swore never to do it again! What a s**t job. Anyway this is how far I got before I ran out of paint. I found some Galv-Tech paint in the barn form when we used to do work for the Galvanizers. Its a zinc based spray paint and costs about £20 a tin. So I sprayed the underside in that first before the stone chip and Hammerite went on.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then painted the mounting brackets etc for my rear discs gold to match the front bells.

Image

Image

Calipers need a bit of touching up looking at that.

Also scrapped those crap ABS bias valve things at the rear end, which I'll replace with a wilwood bias valve when I put the new brake lines in.

Got a few questions though.

Im converting the car to a 2.1 ZVH runnigng L8 Cosworth management. Will I have to change to MFI fuel pump and tank to an EFI pump and tank form an xr3i or the like?

Boring bit first, got my new RS2000 handbrake cable and a set of RS1600i solid lifters and rocker cover.

Image

Image

Image

Fitted up the tank

Image

Then my fuel filler neck looked a bit tired so gave that a snading and a few coats of matt black

Image

Built up the rear hubs. Syill waiting for rear arms and springs to come back from the powder coaters

Image

Then...

Took the engine out of the Fiesta ready to go into the Escort today.

Loom out and marked up where things go. Its a bit of a mess so will need re wrapping before it goes in.

Image

Engine out.

Image

Rocker cover off

Image

Lovely. :o

So removed the head the check the headgasket. But that looks fine to me. The oil breather did have a hole in it though where the vacuum usually pumbs in, so I guess that must have been it

Image

then noticed something which didn't look fine....

Image

Cylinder one exhaust valve. So thats why the fucker was tapping!

Image

Image

So which exhaust valves are best to use? I've heard Burtons stainless ones arent great. They are oversized.

Pistons look a little rich, but on cleanup the valve hasnt done too much damage

Escorts coming along slowly. Got some nice new parts to fit up to it.

Done away with the crap S2 front ARB and got a much better RS1600i set up and soem MEF Mororsport adjustable TCA's thus giving full caster and camber adjustment.

Image

Image

Paired up with these Leda coilovers It should be a preety solid car round the twisties

Image

Finished painting the underside....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Rear ARB bolted up

Image

Freshly painted brake and fuel lines fitted with new clips

Image

Image

Image

Image

And a straight side inlet so I can use the RS1600i Motorsport rocker cover.

Image

Thats all for now.

Problem is Jay they are oversized valves. I`ve got the number of a local company who built a cvh race engine for a friend so I`ll see what they suggest. Just want the car running again. I miss her

These are specially made, apparently very rare, coilovers off a tarmac rally car. I was watching them on eBay and forgot about them and they sold for £360 and was gutted, so I dropped him an email asking if he wanted to sell them and offerd him £400 and he took it :D I need to buy springs but I don't as I can select a poundage and length suitable for my set up. Springs are only about £100 a set though.

Nice work there! Should be a well balanced car in terms of power and suspension setup/handling once completed.

Out of interest how differnt does the ERST 'feel' over a fiesta with the IRS?

In all honesty its hard to compare them, as the only quick fiesta I had one the road was my XR2i. That was lowerd 40mm on spax, 195/45/15 wheels and tyres and a rear strut brace, and the Escort was very loose as it had been sat for many years and the shocks and bushes were shot. But the Escort suspention set up is far superiour looking and from what I've heard comparing the two is night and day, especially as I found the Fiesta could be a bit arse happy at times.

I want a fully adjustable MEF rear end set up, part of the reason I went for coilovers, as even poly bushed the rear tie bar still seems to move about too much, but at over £700 that can wait :o

The car is should be running a solid 260 BHP which will be plenty for now. :)

Bugger I've already bought one! This was an eBay bargin at £26 though. I remember the days when they were £60-80! Plus I don't think my wallet can support an Aeroquip addiction just yet. Adamski's already bullying me into it

Its starting to resemble a car again.

Stripped the old loom into what I needed to keep and tuck away. and Re taped it. also Fitted the Cossie loom, but that still needs re taping.

Image

Cossie Loom

Image

Plumbed in the brake bias valve and connected all the brake lines. They will be replaced with braided line at some point though. Little bits like stearing rack, accumulator etc fitted.

Image

Fitted the RS ARB Along with the front hub, coilover brakes ect on the one side. Other side hub needs a new bearing which I'll get done for tomorrow.

Image

Image

Image

And my braided fuel lines came in the post today. Will have the other side and the rears built up by the end of the week.

Cheers guys.

Very happy now. The cars back on it wheels. Was able to roll it out of the way and have a good clear up in the barn.

Had my new rear spring collets arrive from Gaz so could bolt the rear suspention up.

Image

I've gone for 275 LBS front springs and 180 LBS rear springs.

Braided fuel lines and B&M fitted.

On all fours.

Loving the stance.

Image

And finally a scarey one of the coil wiring

Image

Theres a few small jobs I still need to do, tighten a few bolts etc and gearbox is off to Bernie at CTS for an end casing swap.
