Excursion :AW0L :i got a Farndon steel crank i bought from Burtons if you are interested
i only got round to fitting into the block, was going to be used in a 4x4 fiesta ZT, but never got time, money or the place to build it.
Cheers, but I suspect it's just a steel copy of a standard crank? I'm looking at a short stroke version.
you would be correct, it is the 88mm stroke version

Cheers mate. I certainly will let you know. I've got a Turbo lined up already but thanks for the offer.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than £600 for a CGI block as the standard version is tested over 800bhp. I only wanted it to make the engine 'feel' better and most people aren't interested in that, only the BHP figure, but...I've no doubt you could get a lot more for yours as these are getting hard to find now
The build won't change completely only the bottom end. I will keep the WRC inlet and existing head, which is brand new and maximum spec.
The engine that will be for sale is all brand new - I bought a brand new crate engine as the starting point, and will buy another for parts to make up the new build. This all depends on Ians opinion when I see him next week though, and I guess whether he wants to build another for me

heeman10 :The door aperture sealing looks pretty comprehensive now, good stuff.
Would you be looking to nudge the revs up a bit if you go for the IKE crank? Twincharge and a short stroke could mean a seriously useful 6,000rpm torque nugget!
Haha. The rev limit is already 8500, but I'm not sure if I'd want to go much beyond that
I spoke to Ian tonight and with his experience to drawn on, I've decided to go for the long stroke crank instead. The decided spec will see 2.3 litres, no more power, but the graph will look a lot fuller with meaningful boost available up to 600rpm earlier than the 2.0 builds.

Excursion :95mm plus overbore on CGI, which I can get away with because they are a thickwall block.

Re: MWSTEWART | 500+ BHP Project | Anodising 01/12
Thanks both
Correction to my earlier post: GBI blocks are not in fact a thick wall type, they are just stronger therefore allow a greater overbore than std grey iron.
I hoped to have an update by now that showed the complete rear end/suspension fitted, but there's another delay from MK Motorsport. There have been so many changes to the schedule now I've just about lost count. Mark has offered a free pair of verner pulleys as a gesture, but I would have rather had the finished parts back in September! There can't be much left to do so I'll see what's been done at the end of this week.

cant wait to see how the new engine spec will preform,
i know what you mean about waiting for bits off mk, i was promised my bellls would be finished at the end of each week i asked, every time the end off the week came they where still not done, but in the end they where done and the quality of the parts where worth the wait, i would use him again but need to remember not to be in a hurry for bits

Re: MWSTEWART | 500+ BHP Project | Anodising 01/12
Mark has done a great job of making the rear end parts.
Rear Suspension - Arms
Here are the bush mounts that Mark made. They are finished in chemical black which isn't very durable in my experience, so I've degreased them and sanded them down.
I primed them with Zinc rich primer.
Finished in silver paint.
I smeared copper grease on the threads before reassembling everything.
Rear Suspension - Coilovers
The coilovers have arrived.
The KW Variant 3 - adjustable compression, rebound, and damping power, plus the the bodies are made from stainless steel. Even the packaging is well made!
Tool kit supplied with them. This will live in the boot storage box.
Rear Suspension - Hardware
I'm using new Ford fixings and fastenings throughout. Safety first at 200mph+ .
New rear top mounts, spring cups, and trailing arm bushes. The bushes are the later type used in the Puma.
The trailing arms have been blasted, undercoated, powder coloured, and powder lacquered; the multi stage process provides better long term protection. I've fitted the trailing arm bushes too. In a standard Focus they are fitted 10 degrees off of dead level, but I've gone for five degrees to better suit a lower ride height.
The rear subframe has also been powder coated.
Handbrake Calipers and Rear Hubs
I sent the handbrake calipers and a few more parts off to be zinc plated, and I'm really pleased with the results.
I know from experience that the nice bright finish doesn't last very long, so to create a more durable finish I've etch primed over the zinc plating.
I then sprayed with a brass finish which looks reasonably close to zinc plating. Although this is not strictly a concourse finish, I'm happy that I've ended up something that is durable and long lasting.
Focus rear caliper rebuild in progress. As the function of these calipers in my application is for handbrake only the hydraulic inlets will be blocked off, so to prevent internal corrosion in the future I have packed the bodies with grease.
The Focus calipers were intended for a solid disc of 10mm thickness. I supplied Mark with a new set of Ford pads and he skimmed them and machined the caliper carriers to accept the 16mm thick AP discs I'm using.
For the rear wheel bearings I'm using 'high performance' lithium grease. I believe this type is widely used within motorsport.
Focus calipers and hubs assembled.
The Racing Puma uses the Focus type of rear caliper, so its handbrake cable is perfect for my application.
Rear Calipers and Discs
The AP discs come unfinished so I degreased them and sprayed them in zinc primer.
I bought some new pads from AP, and I've also just bought some grey paint to refurbish the calipers. The rear calipers are a billet model so come in a 'natural' coloured hard anodised finish, but I'm going to paint them grey to match the six pot front calipers that I have to go on. I have a small pot of yellow enamel paint so I can retain the 'AP Racing' logo.
Brake Lines
I've chosen to use PVC coated -3 stainless braided hose for the entire system based on past experience with uncoated hose, which I found has a tendency to scratch or abrade anything it comes into contact with. I've chosen to use stainless steel fittings too in an effort to make the system last longer.
I had real trouble locating some of the required stainless fittings: In the right of the photo there are some zinc plated steel fittings which I couldn't find, and underneath are stainless versions which Mark made for me.
I wanted to maintain the OEM brake line fixing positions so purchased a few stainless bulkhead fittings. I also tracked down stainless steel C clips to secure them to the body.

I get it now, you've got them both different ways up. Presuming the focus calipers bolt directly and the ap's secondary?

Yes, that's right. The bracket is sandwiched between the hub and the Focus caliper.

Stainless steel shock absorber bodies - the kind of luxury we never would've had on our project cars ten years ago or so! I just flicked through a few pages of my old project, and it's really brought back the feelings of success and pride. I've realised that before rekindling those feelings, I'd been glancing through your thread as just another project, albeit on a totally different level to anything else I've seen on this forum. I'm appreciating it a lot more now, and it's great to see what you're capable of a few years on from your earlier cars. The latest batch of work looks fantastic

Thanks mate The zinc paint is Upol weld through, and the brass is Plasticote Brass. I think that's the colour you recommended anyway, not sure if I ended up with exactly the same as you used, but it looks good.
