Re: MWSTEWART | Si project - Lacquer Part 1 02/10/2010
I now have an ST170 ABS module - The ZS one didn't have provision to turn off T/C.
I also have an ST170 gearbox. I'm ordering some stronger valve springs as the stock ones will not take anywhere near the cylinder pressures generated at 300bhp+. Depending on my Turbo choice I may shim the springs to run a little extra boost.
Turbo choice is my current task, and it's more essential than ever to get it right in such a light FWD car. I had a look at GT28R; the map looks great for a quick spool up time but I fear this may cause traction issues. The GT28RS with a 64 trim exhaust housing looks perfect for 320bhp (my aim), and the slightly later spool but bigger top end will be both more a lot more fun and potentially quicker on the road. Thing is it's pretty much £1k , and I'm not sure if I want to spend as much as much on the Turbo as I did on an effectively brand new FRS engine!

LOOOL love it
good god mark, i remember when this was going to be a simple 2.0 blacktop jobbie, now look
doesnt the fire get out of hand at some rate
the second named turbo does sound the best, the gt28r sounds better for less power engines in terms of traction

The Exhaust Manifold has arrived (that is not my chair!):
I'll soon have some photos of the shell complete with lacquer and after being and 'mopped'.

Wow. What manifold is that? Looks equal length? Also, what can you play on it?

Hi mate, yes it's equal length. It's a GGR manifold for the Focus RS, but with a '28 Flange.
I can play "she never knew because she was sleeping".

£938.83 Including VAT. Sheer madness! I tell you, the prices tuners charge for bolt on parts is just obscene. I've been thinking about starting some of this as a sideline, only charging reasonable prices!
I paid less than half for the manifold. It's still a lot, but it saves me a lot of time.

If it doesn't then just slam the bonnet to produce a 'speed dent'. Ghetto styleee.

lol yeah. I think something like a lowered E46 M3 bulge would look good on a Mk3 bonnet, but the manifold is a bit too far forward for that.

Still looking at Turbos. I'm looking around for a good, second-hand GT28RS with the .86 exhaust housing, as the .64 is too small for the ZT at 300+

Re: MWSTEWART | Si project - Exhaust Manifold 25/10
I don't have a problem with Lindsey driving it, she pelts along a ton most of the time anyway. She gets on OK with my main car which is probably just as quick
I think a lot of guys say "she's not driving that" thinking it takes some kind of macho man to 'handle' a 'quick' car.TBH below 400bhp doesn't require any skills over and beyond those everyone elses uses to drive a standard car. It's only when you begin to push the car, and she doesn't really do that
