jonyb4 :, i was expecting 140 on my 1.8 only made 126bhp, and i have a full exhaust and good induction set up (a blow in the exhaust and overfueling have hampered me yes, but goes to show)
hold up... yours is a 1.8 and his is a 2L
and his is super chipped.
and ive been in this and it is absolutely rapid!

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
Cheers Sam lol
Well, no real updates really. I won a Pipercross cone on ebay, thought I would have a punt and got it for a good price so using that now and it has made a real difference and am well pleased
Next is an Escort GTI inlet manifold, with the wiring harness and different ISCV, so this should run with roughly the same power it was when it was in my mate's motor .
Am thinking of relocating the battery to the boot, and this will free up the room needed to fit a bigger cone like he had in his.
I also got some smoked rear lights that I will get pics of tomorrow.
Bodywork - still the same, but hoping to change that in the near future, little by little.

theres not much between them with breathing mods mate, only once you put cams in, turbo them do they start to seperate in power
standard theyre both 130bhp
superchips are rubbish mate, very generic maps

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
ive got phase 1 cams
DO NOT BUY THEM
they were crap and only made a minute difference, waste of £180
imo dont bother for anything less than phase 2's, phase 3's will make hell of a difference, but may need other parts eg valve springs etc depends on the company and how sever they made them
but phase 2 cams are a safe simple install
also, if you have the spare moneya nd time, when your fitting the higher lift cams, id recommend you replace the head gasket and head bolts, when you cam an older engine (not had a new gasket in some time) they have a habit of blowing the gasket from the more aggressive cams, mine went soon after fitting 130 spec cams
and if the head is coming off might as well do the timing belt
after that id recommend getting that superchip updated with a remap, would tie the mods in together, you could see 150-160 bhp then (with phase 2 cams + 4 branch manifold)

EnginesAlong with an all-new platform, the Mondeo also used Ford's then-new Zetec engines, first seen in 1991 in the Ford Escort and Ford Fiesta.
Three versions of the 16-valve Zetec engine were used. The 1.6 L version (rated at 90 brake horsepower (67 kW)) from the Escort was used, a 1.8 (115 brake horsepower (86 kW)) also found in the Escort and Ford Fiesta (105 and 130 brake horsepower (78 and 97 kW)), while a new 136 brake horsepower (101 kW) 2.0 L version was launched.
even with age the super chip and intake should make more than 4hp...
surely? i know its not a brand spanking new engine but....

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
its widely regarded that once in a fiesta, the 2.0 makes on average 130bhp bang on with a pinch more lb/ft more torque
its the smaller exhaust if you ask me
that figure your reading is 136ps not bhp (ps is slightly more than bhp, and the difference gets larger the higher the figure, EG 200bhp = 205ps)
the RS1800/ Xr3i 1.8 is rated at 128bhp (130ps)
my engine is a replica of that (using the cams and inlet etc from one, fitted to a 115ps 1. and it made 126 bhp (less than 2bhp shy of the book figure, due to a overfueling issue)
im not tooting my own horn at all, im just saying, what you expect and what you get is completely different
ive said before but it sounds to me like a 140bhp engine

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
Well it's been a long time since I posted and really not done much. To be honest have been working crazy hours so I haven't felt like tinkering at all but slowly but surely getting back into it.
Fitted some new mirrors today, thanks for those, Knuckles - look so much better
A couple of pics.
Before:
And, after:
Base plates were grey/white and were totally ugly so I'm glad they are now gone lol
Also I have stripped a rocker cover which used to be red, at work with industrial type Nitromores, had it blasted and now painted gloss white (all free lol)
Some pics of it in process, will get a pic of it finished soon:
Still not changed the driver side door as can't get a set of solid pins lol
My wheels are coming off and will be putting Zetec S ones on, once they have been blasted and done in gloss white at work, so at least they will freshen it up a lot.
More pics to follow once I have cleaned engine bay and fitted rocker cover.
Also fitted some better speakers in the fron today, thanks HARRIS-HPE, an improvement

Wrap mate, really well done though I wasn't expecting them to look so good.
I do have some colour coded blues but the base plates are crap so may get them sorted at work, but then the carbons do look well nice so I maye just get the base plates done on the others and see how I feel lol

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
looking like its coming together nicely
Best mod I did to my 2L mondeo block (in escort gti) was a Ashley 4-2-1 manifold, made a great difference and also byassed the cat at the same time. Had the rest of the system as powerflow. Heat wrapped the manifold and it then popped and banged on over run with the odd cheeky flame too
I was running 150 Bhp out of mine with only a few mods, it depends on the engine though all behave differently to each other.
Ive also got a mk3 xr2i that im rebuilding. Lots of rust that im sorting out at moment, and a big brake upgrade going on soon.

Cheers guys, slowly but surely
Sam, reckon you're spot on mate, would much better to keep it silver and white. Also, the mirrors are wrapped.
Cripp, 4-2-1 is something that's on the list, sounds like your's did well from it. What other mods did you have? My engine had only done 56,000 when my mate got it and it was converted from an auto and he didn't use it much so it's pretty good.
Can't wait to get that bloody door sorted though lol

Anoyingly that is so true
with engines liek the 5 pot duratec and the ST150s 2.0... you thikn that tried and tested methods such as exhaust filter and a remap will always get to about the same figure, but with the zetec 1.8 and 2.0 they vary so much its quite anoying lol
my 1.8 has the above coupled with 130 spec, yet it only made 133bhp, so its obviously one of the lower end of the scale ones
you sure thats a wrap on the mirrors mate, looks like a dip to me, unless its been done VERY well and then laquered over

Re: My 16v 2i thread :-)
There wasn't much changed on it at all When I put the engine in though all ancillaries were replaced including things like Idle Control Valve and all gaskets ect ect. I knew the engine was running spot on so I replaced everything else just so I knew there was nothing that was going to give up on me any time soon.
As for modifications all i did was
2.0 Mondeo ECU
Burton Power Boost Valve
Ashley 4-2-1 Manifold
De-Cat
Heat Wrapped
Powerflow Manifold back 3" exit
K&N Induction Kit
Cold Air Feed
Ported and Polished Throttle Body
And frequent good services. Always run on BP high octane fuel. So as said in previous post that it all comes down to the engine they all seem to behave differently, A friend had exactly the same set up as me and was running 142 BHP.
p.s. Just Cahnged my username from Cripp to malin91 if you wonder who this is replying lol =)

I did wonder mate lol
Very similar to mine, though I don't have a power boost valve I have a Superchip on an RS1800 ECU, but hoping to change to DEEP soon, once money is there for it.
Mines also had the internals taken from the cat so a decat is on the cards as well, which should help back pressure rather than gasses swirling around the empty cat box lol
I also have a huge K&N cone off a Scooby, but need to find something to marry it up to the MAF as the opening is over 100mm!

Yeh you need to change the air filter then, no point in going over kill on them if money isnt on your side at the moment why not pop a K&N panel filter in for the time being.
Or just save the pennies and get an induction kit

Quick up date. Wheels are in the process of being blasted at work, then into the booth to be painted.
Once that's done, new boots and I will then get 'em on the car.
Oh, and I have a new knob coming
Been looking at gaitors and handbrake covers as well. Anybody know of any nice ones?
