My 1990 Pop Plus
Hey everyone, this is my first Mk3 Fiesta, and the first car I've driven. I did have a Mk1 for a time but it was rotten beyond reasonable repair so I broke it with my friend.
I don't have many pics as of yet since the light was fading when we got it home, and it's been raining all day today.
It's had new sills a few years ago, and has the typical rust on the rear arches and scuttle. I'm hoping the scuttle isn't too bad. It's lived it's hole life in the Liverpool area, being sold in 1990 from a dealership in Prescot, 6 miles away from where I live.
Plans for it at the moment:
Rear arches
Scuttle
Serck Plates
Lower it tastefully
Wheels? I quite like the steels with the caps on I might just restore these.
Maybe a higher spec interior, nothing too fancy I just have a tear in a bolster.
I'll get some more pictures a little later. As for now I need to go and get the radio out so I can find a keycode for it!

Looks pretty solid seems like it's rusty in the same places as mine!! Only thing I'd be tempted to do with the interior is get a centre console for it, mine would annoy me without!!

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
Yeah I was thinking of a centre console, also I forgot to mention I need a lockset. I've got 2 keys, and I have to open the drivers side door from the inside! £40 on ebay for a complete clean looking lockset. Might go to a scrappy to see if I can get everything I need at once and maybe save a bit. Also interested in getting the opening rear windows, I think they make it look much nicer.

Tell me about it, I have 3 different keys for mine!! also, rear pop-out windows are nice, but as they are rare(ish) and an rs turbo accessory they aren't too cheap

Yeah they're something I'd buy if they came up for the right price, not too high on the list. I think getting it lower is more important right now.

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
Was watching this one myself, but the sills put me off. You want to treat them to make sure they don't rust out again, as most replacement sills don't last long
Best of luck with it, though!

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
What do you recommend I do with the sills?
I moved it out to get some pictures, found the rear wiper isn't working. Tried cleaning the contacts but no luck.
The chrome plate surround and the bean tin on the back are going
Some work to do on the boot, bit annoying being right on the crease.
I'm not sure how much of the actual window lip is left.

Yeah I'm going to get a quote on getting a pair of repair arches fitted tomorrow at the place I'm going for tires. I can do all the painting, just don't have a welder Or even trust myself to get them in the right place!

I currently have no headlining until I get my sunroof fixed, make sure you use the high temperature glue though as the other stuff doesn't work when it gets hot!!

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
Got a quote for replacing both arches and getting the scuttle fixed, £500. Nope.
I'll just tidy it up myself, won't be able to weld anything in but it's not too bad at the moment, the inner part of the arch is still solid. Also got 4 new tyres for it, as the others had cracks on the sidewall. Only they put a dodgy valve in the O/S/R wheel, so it went flat on the M58 of all places. Found that even the 1.0 keeps up quite well which was nice!

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
Errr, back on topic! Getting lots of wet in the passenger footwell, as far as I'm aware this is rather common. At the weekend if I'm not doing anything I'll strip the interior out and have a look at where the wet is coming from. It might be as simple as the rusty scuttle, but I hear it still happens even when that area is solid.

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
I used to randomly get that with mine, long before I had any rust. I remember one Christmas within my first year or so of owning it being horrified that the passenger foot well was wringing wet! I ended up putting it down to the passenger door weather seal having a bit of rubbish in it, or just not seating correctly. It's worth giving it a good wipe around, and along the door itself. Pull it off and clean it all inside the groove and reseat it too. Just be wary that you find rust underneath it at the rear end of the bottom of the door frame if you haven't found it already!
Under the scuttle on the passenger side (behind where the jack often is) you also have a black plastic blanking plate where an ECU can go for fuel injected models. Just make sure that's intact and screwed down properly. It shouldn't really let water in anyway as metal lip that the ECU is hooked to (where fitted) is raised, but the whole area is worth a check.
Mine has a tiny hole just a bit below it and allows water in, however I might have drilled it for an amp cable years ago and forgot It was probably fine when a cable was in there with a rubber grommit, but now there's nothing but a hole
Just make sure it's all clean too, and not full of leaves and crud that stop the water draining away properly, as that'll allow the water to build up and escape into the cabin through any gaps (such as the blanking plate) higher up.

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
I'll give all that a check, and I think I'll order some MK5 door rubbers.
Also bought a pair of Serck style plates, they're not 100% accurate to that font, but the closest I'll ever get. The holy grail would be some pressed serck plates, but I think the company who owns the dyes will only accept an order of 200 or more plates. If they're still about that is. The plates on mine are made with the post 2001 skinny font, so being only 6 characters on such a huge plate they just look lost.

Re: My 1990 Pop Plus
I think the problem is the spacing. When I used to make plates, I would have centred your reg with the correct spacing, and I think it'd have looked a lot better than your current plates!
New ones should look good, though
