that box has been painted, and prob not that long ago.
but it did come up very well, it might even be a recon box not long ago.

you will also need another litre of gearbox oil, but get 2 litres as sods law says you need a bit more.
and ET90 (i belive its ET) is the stuff for LSD boxes

Re: si interior in my mk2 xr2 rep runabout!

Postby fiestasiphil on Thu Sep 13, 2007 10:38 pm

update here,

ive been busy with my si over the past few weeks since the engine was taken out, ive degresed the engine bay

Image

took me ages as i kept on findng dirt :look: , i will probably clean it one more time as in a few weeks my mate is going to be spraying the engine bay ready for the 2.0 to go in :)

ive also re undersealed most of the car except for the front bit near the wings as on sunday me and my mate are going to cut off the pattern wings and replace them with 2 brand new genuine ford ones for a better fit, once there on i will be undersealing the inside of the wings to keep any chance of rust away

Image

ive also bought my escort cosworth discs and new bolts to mount the cailpers and i decided to paint my new socworth cailpers as they were gold but if a matter of time they will rust, so ive painted them to go with my silver and black theme

Image

Image

i also decided to buy new drums for the back £28 each as mine were knarkered and some new anti roll bar link joints and as these parts rust easily i painted them both up silver

Image

Image

Image

on the drum i painted them completely but with a thin coat of paint where the wheel is to sit so to help prevent the wheel from rusting on etc :)

Image

when my mate took my 1.6 lump out of my si he noticed that from the amount of wishbones ive had ive never bothered to change the stretch bolts  opps  so i bought some new ford ones and rear axle bolts for my poly bushed axle :)

Image

my si also needed new headlights and front indicators as they looked a bit dull

Image

Image

i also bought some omp cosworth brake pads and ferodua rear brake shoes and new rear wheel bearings

Image

a few more goodies

frst pop out windows which i plan on getting tinted like my currant windows

and some braided hoses a front wing and another rear anti roll bar

Image

Image

oh and heres the lastest pic of my si ive sold the gmax kit now, its sitting on standard dampers and gmax springs now for once it has been resprayed then its time to get some fk coilvovers on it in time for when it should be ready by june next year :)

Image

work begins on sunday 8-)

looking good mate, reminds me, i gotta take a trip to fords to be d1cked

them "stretch" bolts are not stretch bolts at all mate, provided the torx head and the thread are not damaded then you can use them over and over again, although nylocks are ment to be replaced every time they dont need to be

i always got spare ones in the tool box, when im done the scrappy i sometimes have a blitz on fiestas for bottom arm bolts, shocl bolts, rear arb ones and that, the amount of peoples cars ive worked on and you find a focked thread or it starts to round etc, and it always happens on a bloody sunday
so wise move buying new ones mate, dont bin the old ones though, stick them in tool box, might be needed one sunday

if the thread is really bad it might not be worth keeping.

mind you there was a stand at ford fair and he was also at national day, selling old used bolts which had been zinc plated again as new and more expensive than ford sell them too

my mate alain done the wings today

first off all we got the front bumper off

Image

then as the wings that were on the car had been replaced before we had to remove the filler to find the spot welds

Image

then it was time to drill out the spot welds

Image

then to chisel up the lip of the wing so we could get the wing off

Image

the wing is removed

:)

Image

then i got the paint out and rubbed down any rust to bare metal and painted it all black on the chassis

Image

we also took the xr2i skirts off to check the sills and found some rust but in one place, :look: but lucky it was just surface rust as it was quickly removed back to metal the other n/s sill was fine :) not bad for the origial sills :)

Image

we got the new genuine ford wings in place fitted very nicely which was a result :)

but i didn't get [ERRR] pics of that 2day but i will post some up 2morow :)

new panels are in place it was so much easier using genuine ford wings than pattern ones like we used on my mk2 xr2 rep, we had to also put the bonnet on to check the gaps and then spot welding the wings in place on wednesday :)

got another update here

me and my mate have been working on my si getting the engine bay sorted

first job was to remove all the rust there wasn't too much of it which was a bonus :)

Image

then my mate got the air line out to remove any bits of loose dirt off

then we panel wiped it again and then used this sticky cloth stuff (can't remember the name) to remove tiny litle bits of dirt and dust

we also done the front panel as well but the whole car will be done once 2.0 engine is back in and running

then it was primer time!

first coat of zinc primer

Image

Image

Image

we done 3 coats of primer in total

ive still gotta get the seam sealer and grind the welds down on the wings but it won't take long :)

hopfully the paint will be on in within 2 weeks time :)

nice touch mate, but a couple questions.

why mask up the rubber donut in the strut tops and not remove them and also the loom clips up the sides of the inner wings, why they still there :-?

the suspsension rubber we got the offside 1 out as it was already split, and i have bought a new one, the other 1 was a pain, so we left it on the car but we masked it up well and metal underneath all got primed and came up well, i know it would have been a good idea to remove it but it was in good condition and i didn't want to risk damaging it, :) the plastic clips i didn't want to risk breaking them (basically i couldn't be arsed to buy new ones) so cleaned them and thought oh well paint them

Image

we had problems with paint reactions on the front panel which has set spraying the bay back which is annoying :x should get it completed on sunday :)

so in the mean tIme we painted the black panels that go by the heater blower and the radiator fan and have came up really nice

Image

the tab that goes onto the front panel from the wing, you have sealed it on the out side, but seal it on the inside, your see where i mean, its where the front panel ends under the tip of the wing
