cheers mate, ive never really been a fan of power steering...manual steering feels more bolted together and its one less thing to leak

Re: my 2.0 si manual steering conversion and runabout fixed :)
another update
i cleaned up the pick up pipe and the tray thats sits inside in the sump, the mesh on the pick up pipe was full of instant gasket but cleaned it all out
then put new gasket on the sump and fitted it to the car
annoyingly the stainless steel bolts for the sump i bought came with the wrong washers so i sent them a email and today another set arrived today so will fit those one by one next week
then my mate cleaned up the top of the block and treid the genuine headgasket .......and it was wrong  so a new one should arrive by friday
also i had the cylinder head skimmed and cleaned it came up really well (the head it just resting on the block in the picture)
better picture on the manual steering conversion now i can get the car out of the garage
also since september ive been cleaned and derusting the underside of my si
and fitted my new heat sheilds and painted the fuel tank, i didnt take the tank off in the end as i was up for it and it still has over a half a tank of fuel in it, but it came up pretty well, but was covered in underseal before
also put a new number plate light on
before all yellow not clear
after with new one
also put a new oil filter and fuel filter on the car so its all ready
old fuel filter
new one
also re fitted the starter motor and placed my xr2i front mount with new alternator just with a few bolts till i give the block a paint
also done a few other little bits that were not in the correct place like the bonnet cable, which is meant to go through a hole in the slam panel so i sorted that and at the same time i degreased the gunk inside and put new new grease in it
thats it for now

Re: my 2.0 si manual steering conversion and runabout fixed :)
fitted the powder coated wishbone carriers cleaned out the area six wishbones and re greased them also fitted the powder coated front anti roll bar and fitted powerflex bushes not the floflex ones
the reason why i decided not to fit the floflex bushes, comparing them in this picture
the one on the left is the floflex bush in a unknown bracket (not a si one) the bush is a lot smaller than the powderflex bush on the right which is the same visually to the standard ford bush and fits nice and snug in the proper si bracket , the floflex bush in the proper si bracket doesnt fit snug at all and would do no favours when it comes to handling, unless fitted with 2 of the unknown ford brackets (i do have a ford part number for it if anyone wants it)
all fitted also fitted new drop links while i was at it
also decided to give the runabout a service got some tesco oil pretty cheap so thought why not
got new oil filter, sump plug washer, fuel filter and air filter
the airbox was covered in oil i checked the breathers all seemed fine so i gave it a big clean out and fitted the new filter
also cleaned out the spi unit which was also a bit dirty
thats it for the runabout now comes off the road in 2 weeks then im off to florida then come back and get the si back on the tarmac

brillikant mate
cant say ive had any issues with the good old floflex bushes, your right though they are a bit small compared
ive got mk4 ones in mine which sit much fighter in
mk3s use a recessed bush, mk4s dont, so the clamps hold the bush better ive found
whats happening with the run around then? why is it coming off the road?

Re: 2.0 si powder coated roll bar&carriers on, runabout serviced
the si has been back on the road for a month and passed mot first time been meaning to update the thread for a while now but over the last few days ive being doing a bit of work on both my fiestas
bought a new idle speed control valve from fords with new bolts and gasket for the si
fitted
idles lovely now
then after not driving it for 2 days come home to find a patch underneath
its anti freeze, no entirely sure where it coming from the sump is dry and has no stains but there was some on the alternator, so for now i have just done up the clamps a bit tighter
also the rear brakes needed some adjustment and on inspection the cylinders were leaking so my mates going to fit them and adjust the shoes and flush the fluid on thursday
and the runabout
i noticed some rust coming up behind the nearside rear arch and found this
which poked straight though the outer and inner arch :banghead:
unfortunatly it being the runabout means in has to be bodged :chill:
so bought 2tubes of abro steel and filled the hole/holes up
now i never done spraying by myself before so did my best masking it up cheaply, and i probably should have removed the petrol cap  any extra advice would be much appricated
then after rubbing down and 1st layer of primer the 2nd coat in grey as i ran out of white
it hasnt come up to bad got a few scratches that need rubbing down before diamond white paint is to be applied all the abro steel will be covered with the arch so wasnt to bothered with it showing :look:
also put on some new caps for the rear wheel bearings on the runabout as the old ones were dented and grease was seeping through
also a few pics of my si back at home

done some work on the si, got new rear wheel cylinders fitted as they were leaking and my mate finally got the polybushed powder coated rear anti roll bar fitted :
also i bought a pair of brand new genuine headlights and another set of headlight protectors and fitted them to the si
new oil and filter
also on the runabout a well as a new fan switch seal and thermostat housing gasket thought i may as well rub it down and give it a quick paint
i havent got the bodywork finished yet on the nearside rear arch but should get a go at it in the next few weeks
