Dont sell the fiesta, store it....You know you'll regret it unless it goes into the right hands!

Skylines, lots of fun, specially in the wet

Whatever you do, dont get an R33 if you are after the handling, they are reputed the be the worst handling of the lineup!!! Still it's your choice !

I have parts for sale!!!!.....Nice parts too!!!

Been a while since i checked this thread man.

It would be a real shame to see this fiesta in the hands of anyone but yourself. I mean you'v spent so many hours on it to get it to how it is now. If you were to sell it you would be practically giving it away for peanuts in comparison with the amount of time, money and love you have put into it upto this point. Get her stored in the lakes and but yourself a skyline. Then, when funds become available you can begin the restoration of the fiesta to a concourse show car for the future :D

I trust you will make the right desicion :)

before you sell it get some high power figures and quick 1/4mile times and enjoy it a weeee bit more otherwise you will be always thinking man i wish i had done that to it and got this out of it etc etc thats how i would feel but everyone is different.

then move to the Jap Toys...bigger and better TBH

But he's so sexy!

No, I haven't sold the car. AFAIK it's still tucked away in my garage. It'll be re-taxed in the next few days, with the aim of having a rag around Castle Combe in a couple of weeks' time. Not too sure the pistons will enjoy non-stop flat out abuse, so may well give way, and I'll be driving the car there!! Hmmmm...will I be driving it back?

Too right! And you're telling ME not to drive like an accident on wheels! Can you believe that was two whole years ago? Unreal.

To be honest, as much as I enjoy track driving, I would take a good fast road any day. Both are fun in their own ways :)

I'll be taxing the car on Monday probably, and pulling some stuff out, sticking some bits on, and seeing how the old bugger does up there :)

Back on the road

After a few days trying to track down the lever arch file of documentation for the ZT I finally happened upon it today. Turns out it's MOTd till Aug 1st 2008, so it is now taxed and turned its wheels for the first time in a couple of months, after pumpig the tyres up a bit! What a laugh :)

Mike - I reckon it's just got the edge over the Mk6 between about 40 and 45mph :)

Fil - If only I could bring myself to apply vinyl to my paint! There's a fair chance the pistons will let go with track use, but all I can do is suck it and see.

Shaun - No, we're bringing in an earth-moving company next week in the hope that we'll find a set of wheels I lost months back :aaah:  ;)

Pics and vids are something I haven't done since...dunno...July last year?? Blimey, how odd! I'm sure some will emerge after Castle Combe :)

Update - Track preparations

I've had the ZT up the workshop these last two days to make a few tweaks to make it a bit more of a track-happy car. Yesterday I did the now-standard "interior strip", which I already know removes 50.5kg from the interior:

Image

Image

Today my ball valve-type bleed valve arrived in the post - also known as a "Dawes Device". These valves don't work on the principal of a closing aperture like the "old school" bleed valves. They use a ball valve, which only allows boost pressure to act on the actuator diaphragm once the pre-determined pressure has been met. This means boost builds extremely rapidly, and is maintained in a far more "on/off" manner.

My boost pressure was originally peaking at 15psi and tailing off to 12psi, but over the years had dropped to 13/9psi pressures. With some dyno testing to make sure all was well, I left it peaking at 17psi and holding 13psi. Boost was tailing off badly before today, and all torque/power production ceased at 4,000rpm, with 170bhp/220lbft peak figures. As a result of today's work, the engine is now making 195bhp, with good power holding on till 6,000rpm, and torque is up to 245lbft, again, with a far longer spread, so I am very happy :)

The third angle of attack was the suspension. The back end always comes up with interior removed, so I dropped that about 25mm, and dropped the front end 10mm or so. Damping was stiffened up at each end also.

Image

Image

Image

The crossmember isn't fitted at the moment, so hopefully I'll get a chance to get that fitted before the weekend.

As it stands, the car has undergone a pretty major transformation. A 15% peak power increase, plus a wider power band, 50kg weight loss, lower ride height and stiffer damping all adds up, and has reminded me just how a car like this can drive. I softended off the damping quite a bit for the 300 mile move down here in August, which I'd forgotten. Putting it back to a more "firm" setting has taken it back to how it used to be, and I'll go a few more clicks both front and rear when I get to Castle Combe.

Image

Happy James :) It just needs a lonnnnnnnnnng over due wash and polish now!

allinking - It's fun to be using it again! It's been my daily driver the last few days :D It seems like forever ago we were all down at SCC for the rolling road day that November doesn't it? 18 months now actually, madness!

Henry - The cage is staying out, permanently. I always planned to have it welded in and extended forwards, but very infrequent use, combined with a desire to do many many things to the chassis in the next year or so mean that the cage that goes in will be a weld-in, structurally-enhancing construction. I've seen about the meeting place thanks, I hope it does stay dry. I'm having traction issues taking corners under power in fourth, so any wet would screw up my day big time

I've left the centre caps off as I need to do some wheel swapping yet, and would rather they didn't get chipped on the track if possible. I took the car out for a test drive after the tweaks today, and succeeded in completely scrubbing off what was left of the front tyres, so the fronts need to come off again at least anyway. James at JEK Fabrication may well be able to lend me his Escort GTI wheels with legal tyres so I can drive it there, then chuck on my buggered A539s to finish them off on track. We'll see. I think they may expire on track I munched them so badly today!

Only jobs left are bonnet raisers, front tyre situation and crossmember :)

You need to stick some stickers on saying 'Tow' near the hooks

Yeah good place to finish some tyres off on track. If you had some spare wheels you could come into the pits, get 4 helpers, do a grand prix changeover, and be out again!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! :D
