CheeRS mate She is out of the incubator and doing well thanks, although she did kinda scupper my FITP plans - the little madam!

I was looking forward to going there and meeting all of you, putting faces to usernames etc! , still there is always other times!

I took that photo of the chive when I was driving to Dudley to collect my heated front screen a couple of months back, he got a little upset when he saw me pointing my phone at his horrendously chive form whilst laughing like a madman!

Left it out in the sun with everything open all day yesterday, to bake it dry after FITP!



I think it was quite low till I parked it up at my local Ford garage to get the rivets today..even that gay old MG is lower!

Blimey, is that your local ford garage? All the ones round here are packed with cars, and when I say packed, I mean triple parked etc. To get some cars out you'd have to move about 10!!

This dealership isn't like the others, it's flippin useless!! My doors were open for a total of about 3 minutes at FITP probably, meaning a lot of water got in, and my door cards were showing it So I wanted to make sure everything was bone dry

Ah I see, there was me thinking you had leaks. Yeah just opening the door can screw the inside up on certain seats and doorcards, bloody rain!

I'm sure my local dealership is just as bad, I can't remember ever walking in and getting something, it's always ordered in for later in the day or the morning after. Makes you wonder about having your car serviced there, I'm guessing they don't hang around for things like sump nut washers and just use the old one!

Porbably would try but i suck at guitar and pretty much anything else musical. Accept for the triangle of course. That was always one of my strongpoints when i was at school.

Gotta agree on that one. Ford could have at least tryed to make it look slightly similar to the older models. If I didn't know it was a fiesta I would never figure it out by looking at it. They may aswell have renamed it.

Update

Tonight I decided to do some 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs, since I hadn't tested it out since fitting the shortened clutch lever arm we made a few months ago now, which greatly improved the gear change. Before tonight, my best ever recorded time was a 7.06, recorded both up here on my GTech Pro meter, and on the drag strip at Silverstone at Ford Fair and Trax.

Out I went tonight, my slowest time out of about seven runs was around the 6.7 second mark, and my quickest run was my first, of 6.06!

Then I got home and removed my cage, rear seats in their entirity, parcel shelf complete with 6x9s and the passenger seat. That lot totalled 50kg! Out I went again and recorded a 5.88 straight away! Finally, it cracks the 6 second barrier!!!!! *Applause/cheering!* I'm not entirely sure, but I think I pulled out a 5.66. The camcorder wasn't high enough to "see" the GTech's screen, so I have no record of that The tyres were set too hard for me to be pulling the best achievable times, and the front dampers could've done with being softened up a bit more...I believe with 10psi knocked out of the tyres and the front coilovers wound right off, and maybe with Rawli's 4kg seat in (to replace my 17kg seat) I could drop below 5.5 seconds. The next challenge perhaps!

I did that (to an extent, didn't go too silly with the rear end ride height) for Ford Fair last year, and with the front tyres dropped to 10psi it made a HUGE difference to traction off the line. I can't really drop the tyre pressures that low here because of all the corners and bumps etc.

No doubt it's probably quicker, but I lost confidence in my Gtech meter when I used it at Ford Fair 2005. I was on the 0-60 strip and aswell as having their time I also used my gtech.

Ford Fair = 7.8secs while Gtech read around 7 secs
If they'd matched I would have been happy!

Its amazing how much difference you can make to you 0-60 times just by changing tyre pressures ect and putting your car on a diet. Will you be going for the sub 5 second mark with this car????

Mike - Maybe you had it wonky, or the Silverstone timing equipment was being as "repeatable" as ever! I've seen good repeatability and accuracy from mine...can't beat GPS though!

Ollie - Indeed. I get terrible tramp if the pressures are over 15psi, even with the front dampers softended right up. They just can't react to the tramp motions quickly enough, so the extra give in the tyres' sidewalls helps iron out the brutality of it, which brings traction along with it, since it stops the tyres skipping around, and lets them spin instead, which is easier to modulate with the throttle.

If I go ahead with my back-of-mind plans, then yes, I'll hit times below 5 seconds with this car, but not with my current engine/transmission/tyres. On slicks with a proper gearbox and stripped out further it probably would duck below 5 seconds, but I'm not interested in spending all that cash and still having under 300bhp.

Cheers babe! Sorry to hear you didn't get the times you wanted at Santa Pod...it's so easy to mock what sound like slow 1/4 mile times isn't it? It really isn't that easy, and even hundredths of a second are hard to gain, let alone tenths!!

I know what you mean man. I think when i finnally get a new fiesta i will be aiming for around the 220 - 250 bhp mark with it. If I wanted any more power I would just get a bigger car with rwd or 4wd like a cossie or maybe a jap car like a 200sx. Just something that can put the power down well and go round corners like hell on wheels

I was invited down to the PassionFord.com FWD Team TOTB qualifying day at Bruntingthorpe a couple of weeks ago, and though I turned it down, thought I might as well see what times my car was capable of with a little bit of its fat-boy comfyness removed, and since sorting the gearshift problem out. Since I took the time to weigh everything as I removed it, I thought I should stick some pics and figures up!

A rundown of the weights

Passenger Recaro = 16.90kg
Rear roll cage = 10.20kg
60% side of rear seat back = 6.55kg
40% side of rear seat back = 4.40kg
Rear seat bench = 4.20kg
Parcel shelf with 6x9s = 7.10kg
Bolts and rags etc = 0.70kg


Total = 50.35kg


I weighed the car a while ago at 960kg with quarter of a tank of fuel without me in it. So now it stands at 910kg with the same fuel load...not surprising it can pull away from R32 GTR Skylines that tip the scales on the heavy side of 1,500kg really!

I done exactly the same to my FRST about 4 weeks ago now, and im not putting mine back in either, it flies with out all the seats in it. lol.

It did'nt do too bad against my freinds 311bhp impreza the other day.
