MattPym :Can I get a re-shell
Cheers Craig It certainly doesn't need a reshell, it's a very good shell and it'd be hard to find something better. It just needs some tidying now!
Mk3modda - Know what you mean, it helps if you can find someone who knows you, knows the car, and knows how much the car means to you. IT always helps to turn up with an immaculate car so straight away they appreciate that you look after it and that it means a lot to you...also that ANY marks will stand out a mile if they leave any.

Not entirely true. Whatever configuration the Mk3 is, it'll always be a rapid little weapon. I want something bigger, sleeker and less nimble and "pointy". It may sound odd, but you really do need to choose between all aspects cars can give you!

paniK :Why not try a Mondeo V6 or a Cosworth block heeman? i know cosworths have reliabilty problems though but then anything turbo'd that is modded does.
The YB turbo lump is among things being considered matey Or are you talking about the 2.9 Cosworth V6?

I mean just the YB turbo block found in RS Cossies. Those could easily see 350+bhp.
I remember going to Grove Garage a while back and the guy there said he had about 4 cossie engines to build each to a spec capable of 500bhp
Was amazed they were that popular in demand!

Yeah the YB's been pushed to silly levels, past 1,000bhp, so 300, 400, 500bhp is no huge ask I want a minimum of 300bhp to the wheels, so the YB or Duratec are up there in the engine choice list.

niracka - Indeed. I keep thinking of crazy ideas, like Nissan six pots, Evo engines, 2JZs...but it would be far cooler to keep it Ford. Was even considering a YBT cam cover on an Evo engine, that'd make me lots of friends at the RS shows!
Adam - I did take some pics actually, will stick them up some time. It was a blessing in disguise as for some reason, that rear right seat mount wasn't in a happy state, and everything else around it's utterly mint!

Update
Although I don't envisage having the 1.8 turbo in the car a great deal longer, it will undergo one more phase before vacating the engine bay. In line with my new business venture (watch this space), I have ordered a new Haltech E6X ECU with associated ancillaries, and will be fitting and mapping it over the next three weeks or so, aiming to land it on the FT.com stand at Trax, 2nd September this year, fully-completed.
There are a number of reasons for this changeover:
1. I believe that this engine should be making more power, and that it could be yet more economical.
2. I believe the lack of boost pressure (peaking at 14psi and holding about 12.5-13psi) may partially be down to the mapping. I will be running a boost control solenoid with the new management, and will make sure it's peaking at 16psi and holding 14psi or so. 2psi may not sound like much, but it equates to a good 20bhp or so, which is a 10% or so power hike.
3. It will be an interesting, enjoyable and educational exercise, as well as a useful promotional tool for this business venture.

Very interesting James. TBH ive not heard of this brand so i presume you have found a little hole in the markets of ECU's?
Any more news on your venture? Premises, dates etc etc?
Gareth.

Rob - I'll run the 1.8 on Haltech for a bit, and the replacement engine hasn't been decided on for sure yet. I MAY go mid-way briefly with a higher power (i.e.280bhp or so) FWD set-up, purely for development and interest purposes, but I'll update with any changes as and when, as usual!
Gareth - Haltech aren't really that well-known to the majority of the aftermarket in the UK, they've been up and running since 1986, based in Australia. They've been big in the drag scene in Oz and the east coast (in particular) of America for quite some time, and have done quite a bit for the industry. They're very comparable to Motec and I'm expecting good things from the E6X, but will hopefully work my way through their other ECUs to see what they can do
The "venture" is a long way ahead now. We are now in possession of our work premises, and floor/wall painting is underway after a fairly major re-working of the internal structure of the unit. I'm moving down there this Saturday (in the process of packing at the moment) and expect the rolling road to arrive in 10-15 days or so

Woooooooooooo, I seriously cannot wait to see how you get on with this, especially with it being in the hands of someone who I'm pretty sure will be exploring the full potential of it
I've been wanting to get new management myself for ages now and I still haven't gotten round to it!
Make sure you post lots of photos/screenshots of the software and mapping stages, as I'm sad like that

I'll see what I can do matey Obviously I'm going to be pretty busy from now on, so I can't promise to get on here as much, taking/uploading/explaining photo's etc, but will do what I can. Time will be fairly tight to get this ECU here, fitted and mapped in time for Trax, but I'll do my best and get the pics up as and when I can. I'm certainly looking forward to this first installation and first beginning-to-end mapping process, and will do extensive before/after runs on the rollers so as to make the most conclusive before/after comparisons possible

Nice to see someone exploring new avenues rather than just being a sheep (no punn intended Heeman! ) and following the crowd
I see that it's $1400 Aus - Is that about £700 in good old British PAAAAARNDS?!
If you like this unit then I may purchase one to run the engine in my MK1 Escort!

Mr Jimmy - I ain't gettin on no sheep, fool! The Australian dollar doesn't carry the same exchange rate as the USD - the E6X kit retails at around about the £600 mark. In addition to that I've ordered a 3 bar MAP sensor, boost control solenoid, a few injector connectors and the twin coil ignition amp, so you're looking at around £800 retail for that lot, plus installation and mapping if not doing yourself (as I will be in this instance).
The truth is, had I been well enough informed back in 2005 when my ZT needed mapping, I would've gone this route straight away. The live map cost me £750, and would cost pretty much the same for each subsequent state of tune, still on the Ford ECU. With a good aftermarket ECU like the Haltech E6X, you pay out for the ECU and fitting, followed by mapping, but it's easier to go back for small tweaks if you change exhaust systems, want a touch more boost or change engines. If you do wish to go the Haltech route, let me know
Mr Lee - Yeah I believe it should. Just getting the turbo boosting properly will be a substantial power hike! We'll catch up again some other time I'm sure
Dave - Pop along while I'm getting on with it some time if you like, see what it's all about

Quality James, i will have to pop up and say hello. Im curious about the 3 bar map sensor alsom, as OFAB wont allow any more than 15psi so this is a route i have been looking at lately-keep us informed about it.

OFAB runs a 2.5 bar MAP sensor Gareth, you must be on OFAC. When you say "this", do you mean an aftermarket engine management system?

You'll have to let me know how you get on with that Haltech setup as Mike was trying to talk me into getting it for my S2
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

What Haltech Steve? I was talking to your wife about fitting an MFi setup with resistors that would take you past the 300bhp limit, is that what you meant?

Wow!!! sounds like your little fezzer is gonna be goin even faster then james.
I like the sound of the evo engine with a yb top on it I'f you did go down this route then you would have to go for a ful 4x4 job with the evo drivetrain

That would be the reason for choosing the Evo 2.0 over the Cosworth 2.0 We'll see eh? Will just have to see how much time can be put into my own car!

Ahh oooops ive got me wires crossed im defo on OFAB, i must have miss read and misunderstood some information in the past, hence i thought OFAB would'nt run more than 15, excuse my ignorance, lol. Regards the management iam interested in this so i will be keeping an eye on your thread and may even come up for a chat.

Update
Car won't be going to Trax.
The first day after I arrived in Somerset, I started the engine up and the top end tapped momentarily then settled down, which has never happened before. Each day, while we've been moving into our unit and sorting out our business, I've been driving the car about 20 metres out...then 20 metres in again at night, and the tapping's been getting progressively worse.
I decided to give it an oil change before driving up to stay near Silverstone this afternoon..took it for a drive and it didn't settle down. Will say more when I know more, but I will not be driving it to Trax. We'll work to get the engine healthy, then go about installing something more interesting.
For now...the Mk6 will be making its Silverstone debut!
See you all there Shame I've had no time to look at the Mk3 a bit more over the last few weeks, but it'll be seen to. There are more important things to be getting on with at the moment!

sphinx - Too right I did!
Vix/Max - I think we made a bit of an alternative stand this year eh? Nissans, Ka, Pugs and a Mk6 Fiesta TDCi with a tow bar!
The car will be returning better than ever in a couple of weeks' time. New, healthy head (more details to come about the demise of the original head), a tubular stainless exhaust manifold and a Haltech E6X ECU will hopefully see it making 230bhp, and I fancy making the turbo hold 15psi and peak around 17psi, as opposed to almost hitting 13.5psi and holding 11.5 or so as it has been for the last who-knows-how-long!
