Re: My Escort Mk5b
Well...we have update.New engine is in,loom is over, downpipe is over, started, idling fine and allready had a ride in it for testing purposes. What is left to do is the front mount intercooler and the hoses for it,connect the amal valve, and that;s all folks!!!I drove the car without the intake hoses, turbo is blowing in the atmosphere and it is spraying some oil.Not much.If you put your hand at the compressor outlet, idling is clean, when you rev it,and turbo is spooling without strange noises, you have here and there tiny droplets, especially when warm.Is there any xase this is happening due to absence of hoses for the intake? If I connect it is there any case it will stop oiling?I can't see smoke on the exhaust...I also have a cat in the exhaust which is a 200 metallic one.As far as I am aware,it is up to 200hp.Is there any case the cat increases the backpressure,so I have leaks from turbo seals?I uploaded some pics of the engine room as it is now

Re: My Escort Mk5b
Update...Project is allmost finished, today I creared the big mess with wiring, replaced EDIS plug since the old one from the FEZT loom was f*ckd and guess what...I noticed that one of the groundings on a shielded cable from EDIS module to ECU was cut,I cut a piece of wire and connected with the other groundings near EDIS and idle was fixed!I guess there was electric interference for some reason and this upset the signals. So,I did a final check on everything, chopped and attached front bumper, connected permanetly CDA filter and everything is fine.Only thing remain is to regulate CO level, and do an engine clean, and after that a good rinse-clean inside-out.I hate it as it is now,It is pink! There is a case I found a RS front bumper which will paint and attach, since I like it very much, and also I can have back my fog lights, because as is now, they can't get back due to boost hoses routing. Here are some pics from how she looks atm.
Here are some photos from the car as it is now...

Re: My Escort Mk5b
Update:
Yesterday I finshed with painting and fitting a modified RS2000 front bumper.I was looking for one several months now,but the prices I've told of was unbelievable.Anyway,I bought this one,it is genuine Ford. Here it is.
Also I pressure washed the engine compartment,it was something I wanted to do 4 some time now...
Next step is to attach engine room decals,I found them on ebay, ordered them and wait for them.I also wait for a RS2000 rear beam with disc brakes Anyone knows if the rubber hoses that fit to the hydraulic cylinders at the rear drums are a direct fit to the calipers?Any ideas if the handbrake cable will fit?

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Thanx very much all of you.I just bought a set of decals for the engine compartment,to replace the old ones,(well any of them that are still there ),and I am thinking of buying a wideband gauge to install to have a look at the combustion process.I allready have a narrowband, but it is not the best solution on a turbo, well generally, but especially on a turbo.I am in doubt in between the wideband or a EGT gauge, but I think I will go for the wideband.I also have an oil pressure gauge, sitting in it's box, which I must install some day,if I move my a@@e and do it!!!My problem is that I don't want to put everywhere gauges if you know what I mean,it is just an Escort, not a 747!!lol

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Hello people.I thought I should update my garage after some changes I did recently to my beloved Escort. Here we are:
A new set of tyres, brand new Bridgestone ER300 with new rims.
Not the best photo quality, taken from my mobile...
I also removed the gauges from the pillar and installed them on top of the dash.Of course they hide the clock there but I will think something for that too...
And this is a photo of the engine compartment as it is now...
Car drives like a dream, really enjoy it as a daily driver.

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Hello people.I thought to update this thread, since I have ages to update it.Although nothing major,I purchased a set of rear spats that I installed,a innovate wideband sensor, and unfortunatelly a new gearbox,(well a second-hand new ),because the old one was from the 1.4 and decided that it didn't want to serve me anymore.Never mind,I replaced it with another one from a 1.6 this time, and while it was out,I replaced all the engine and gb mounts, cause they were crap. This is how we stand for now:
and a tiny mess during install
Also installed two rad fans controlled by an uprated thermoswitch by AS,and get power directly by the battery via a relay. In the future I want to install a switch in the cabin and controll them also whenever I want, especially in the summer where the temperature here raises to 40C.

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Thank you very much, both of you.Nothing new happened to the car, since I barely manage to pass the month with my salary Damn politicians. All new taxes and with the price of petrol it is difficult to spend money on your car I replaced the tailgate last month, fixed and paint some rusted spots on the rear wing and it is very clean now.My new project is to try and install climate control, since here in Greece the temp can climb to 40 degrees.Problem is that nobody cares for old cars,so I will have to search a bit and install it on my own.Of course, under these circumstances it may take time.lol.Ambitious project

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Well, some upgrades after looooong time!!! The latest upgrades are...a set of new Bilsteins B12 which really transformed the car behavior on road!Really pleased with the result.Although I was a fan of Koni's,I have to admit that Bilsteins suit better my car,or at least my driving habits.I also replaced the rear axle completely with one from a RS2000,complete with disc brakes and Panhard rod.Of course I replaced the front too to keep the braking balance.Feel much more safe now.The car as it stand now is here:
although this photo is before installing the brakes, but it shows how the car is sitting now on Bilstein's shocks and springs.
And here are a couple of photos showing the brakes:
Front
and rear
I am now in the process of installing an air condition.Since my car never had,I was looking for ages to find the correct parts in the correct price too. Some fabrication needed to install the compressor, since my car hadn't power steering too,so I must replace crankshaft pulley, alternator pulley or a complete alternator,it depends on what I will find, and then think and fabricate a plate or some kind of base to attach the compressor.Pics on the completion of the project

Re: My converted Escort Mk5b
Well,it's ages since i posted here, but the last months I was busy running in between jobs for living...again.Since things has settled up again,I thought to update the thread. The A/C is fitted, works like a charm,is the better mod I have ever done,(well after the engine transplant) ,and keeps me cool in the hot summer days in Greece.I used the complete system of a mk6,since it has the same chassis, except some minor differences on the wings etc etc, which doesn;t affect A/C installation. The procedure is a bolt on procedure,I just cut with a jigsaw the recycle opening, which was stamped on the metal from factory, but it just need to remove the metal from the spot...you need to remove the entire dashboard to do this. After that,I just unplugged and unbolt the heater fan, bolted on it's place the evaporator which is integrated with the heater fan, bolted the condenser in front of the radiator,(you need to have a radiator from a model with A/C in order to have some fixing points,or you have to make a couple of brackets),connected the A/C refrigerant hoses and bolted the radiator fans back on.Of course you need some electric work to be done, but further that, everything worked fine. The evaporator needs a vacuum feed to operate the air recycle function,I used a T piece and connected it to the boost gauge tubing.Even the A/C switch on the dash is a plug and play, you just need to connect 3 extra wires to the rest of the contacts that remain on the switch. These are the power for the A/C compressor, the power for the recycle flap and a power for an indicator on the switch that lights when you have the A/C on.
Pics:
Condenser in front of the rad.You can see one of the rad fans too.
The refrigerant hoses from the evaporator to the condenser and the compressor. You can see one of the refrigerant service ports on the tubing too.
I also replaced the crankshaft pulley with one from a PAS model,a tensioner and a polyvee pulley for the alternator.Since I have no PAS,I had to fabricate a small bracket for the compressor.
Compressor
Some wiring during instalation...it is held temporarily with zip ties for testing purposes It is embedded in the car loom now
And...completed
It works like a dream, the power loss is there but is negligible,I also used a high performance compressor from a 1.2 Fiesta to minimize power loss.Only problem I noticed,is that if the ambient temperature is 35 and above, and you stuck in heavy traffic,ie for more than 5-10 minutes, due to the extreme heat of the turbo, the rad fans are inadequate for cooling,a couple of times it began to climb above the N in the gauge. If you drive for 50-100 meters after the traffic,it starts to fall, but if you are stoped and there is not airflow,it is not enough.I am looking for 12 inch rad fans,9 inch are the ones I have now,and some more heatwrapping.I am thinking of heat wrapping the manifold, the downpipe is allready wrapped.Perhaps the turbo exhaust housing too...I must say that when there is airflow, the A/C is very effective, despite the age of the system.I measured temperature of air on the centre vents at 5 degrees C at 2500RPM,and about 3 degrees @ recycle!
I think it's time for a pressure wash now that it all finished
