slight lack on enthusiasm tbh, as its run like a bag of s**t since picking it up and now its wont work properly and keeps dying and we decided to trailor it back to MAD and after that they decided to back it off the ramp and the box made a loud bang, so box needs to come out  .... so not too happy atm tbh, so gonna rip the manifold off mod the flange and sell the GT 35 and get a proper twin scroll turbo on there get it all done basically then get it back to MAD... just short on cash just now and a little fed up its not working correctly after spending thousands....

however theres a new gear cradle coming to mount the shifter on the box to make it work slightly more factory and also look more factory...

Image

also decided to use WRC top mounts and ditch the ones i have, nothing wrong with them i just like the look of the WRC type!

top mounts have been zinc'd and polished car is now booking in the end of jan to have them fitted , and as per exhaust is near complete we just need to mount it on the car to see where the hangers need to go and also weld the last sections on so it fits perfect. however until the new turbo arrives we cannot finish the downpipe just encase it doesnt line up on the manifold...

however the manifold has been converted to T4 flange and wastegate modded to try and fit the airbox in. This should be back from AH this weekend then be sent off for coating then refitted!

So hoping to have the exhaust and manifold back on this month, top mounts done and i do need to make a few more changes before it sees the road again but will update that closer to the time.

but also have another small 'fun project on the go'

ok so been down and straightened a few things out the main one being the exhaust tac welded up in place now, after hours or jigging. So just the hangers to sort and the top and bottom of the downpipe to line up then the tailpipes so few hours work and its finished....

Image

Image

Picking my manifold up in the next few days then gonna mock it up for the downpipe position then when the exhaust is finished get it ceramic coated. Then the turbo and exhaust can all be plumbed back in. just need to also swap my crank pulley for the shorter one ready for the new cooler. plumb up the rest of the bits ive unplugged then its back to MAD for mapping.

Well been a little while now just due to being waiting for parts and people, but wanting to get the car ready for the summer asap, anyway movement forward jamie has finally managed to fit my wrc turrets he removed the old ones going to paul crow, cut the hole bigger in the centre then prepped and measured till he got both sides lined up and then tacc'd and then welded them in now is just a case of to prep and paint now. Car will be back with me next week and we need to finish off alot of niggly parts including the exhaust and strap the turbo on when the manifold is back from ah fabrication for the w/g mod so that we can get the car back up and running asap hopefully. In the meantime the car has had a new spec r cooler fitted thanks to pete and will probably have to go back for a air filter mod before mapping anyway a few pics for where we are just now!

What's the reasoning behind bending the two exhaust outlets back on themselves, at over 90 degrees to the direction of flow? It looks a bit like a double whammy on hurting your back pressures to me; firstly with the large change in direction, which will incur its own significant flow restriction, and secondly, because the outlets might even end up with ram-air effect on them as the car pushes its way through the air, increasing back pressures further still. :-?

james it'll work dont worry  the flow will be fine and i know the angles arent the best idea however it was the only way possible to fit 3 boxes in and that IS needed for track days i cant fit the boxes anywhere else due to whats already there :) it'll be over 600hp so thats more than enough to play with you HOMO (feels like the old days) xx

Yep, it will work dude, I'll give you that! 600bhp should help combat those pesky headwinds  It is like the old days, because your Escort still isn't running, just like the old days! :p I look forward to seeing the first video of it on track on my 40th birthday :D

Haha you n.o.b James I've missed you! Yer sooner the better I wanna give it some death! You still got normal cars now? I if ah fabrication gimme my manifold back it'll be. Ready in no time it's the manifold that's holding me back now.

The turbo is a 7670 mad have mapped a evo on one and it made full boost by 3k and full power by 4k so basically a t34 style spool up on a 650hp turbo...

Full boost by 3,000rpm sounds far better than what you had before :) I've still got my trusty A3 2.0 TDI. It's remapped to 180-190bhp, with 18" RS4 wheels, S3 brakes and S-line lip spoiler, done a bit of carbon vinyl wrapping on the inside, but nothing outrageous! I've got a Honda CBR600 for my speed kicks these days, but am still looking to start up a project car, once the Audi and bike have been upgraded. I'm buying a house at the moment, so will let the dust settle before turning my attentions to vehicles :) I do miss having a quick car, but the Audi pushes along well enough for the now, and the bike is obviously quicker than most cars out there ;)

ok so good news was i got my manifold back and i have then sent it to be ceramic coated, and modded the downpipe a touch so things are slowly coming together now, i just need TIME now to be able to go and sort a few niggly things out then i can build it all back on the engine finish welding the downpipe/exhaust then its near ready to run again. So all being well if things go my way i am hoping to be running again before the end of june!

ok so went and spent half a day on the car and seems were not too far away now, the turbo and manifold are back on nearly all plumbed up, just need a couple of boost hoses, rewired the new spal fans to fit the OE connectors.

so we just need to refit the gearbox, finished the downpipe and w/g pipe when the engine is level, few small jobs and mods then its off to MAD. hopefully back running in next few weeks!

Did some more this weekend hard to see whats been done really but basically we have started redoing the fuel lines and fitted up the new boost hoses, new turbo damper bracket is being made as we speak, really need the box fitted now to finish the exhaust  however i may be changing direction on this i want a sequential box SO i have decided to take a sidestep and have bought a second uprated box to fit for the mapping process then once i have sold my ludde box i will order a sequential.

however my mate neil has finally got his own unit after being in his dads for years so its now moved to his new unit however he's not moved all the kit over yet so its made it hard to work on a little..

Another mid-build change of mind?? Boy, do you ever make this expensive for yourself dude! :o Surely if you change the gearbox, you'll end up having to re-make at least parts of the exhaust system again? You must've built this thing three times over, with three turbos/exhausts/mapping sessions! :aaah: Sequential gearbox is the dream :aviator:

its not mid build james my exhaust will fit reguardless of the box that is fitted due to the shape i have made it  ... as soon as we get a box on there we can crack on and finish the remaining bits just 2 hangers to weld on, and the downpipe to mate up, then the small w/g pipe which is half done. I will probably go with this new box for a while until i sell the ludde then buy the sequential. but due to my driving style and what i use the car for the sequential will suit me better. but yes this is the third turbo since owning it and third exhaust and this will be the third mapping session but bear in mind how long i have owned it now :oooh: amazing to think how far its come ! I still cant think of a better car i'd want, if i ever wanted to get rid of it :D
