Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
ok well been driving it abit for that last few days so heres a few pics, done near enough miles now to go back to mark for full mapping. i do need to get a few little things sorted before tho alot of small niggly jobs just to get things mechanically just right... the gear selector bar needs modded as its too stiff just now in adjustment, knocking on the pass front (believed to be the suspension not sitting right easy fix), Act guage not lighting up (possibly the guage broke) I think the clutch pedal needs adjusting up slightly too so will do that....
anyway some pics

Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
well today i ha a hour fre so i went out and modded the gear rod from the stick to the box, so thats done now. I need to higher the rear 10mm its too low. theres a knock on the front (just not sitting right 'suspension').Adjusted the modded the clutch pedal. Also ducted the headlight feed to the airfliter for now till i have a airbox made.
So i should be looking to have the car finished in 2 weeks, then back to mark for mapping. Then i'm free for shows!

Re: My Escort Cosworth... WITH MAD
Car is now with MAD, should be back in the next 2 weeks all being well, having a bit of wiring done, a check over, full boost mapping, ecu controls reinstalled with the Antilag, full throttle change, launch control,2 stage boost, water inj. Then the car will be put on the rollers for a power figure.
I'm not chasing figures this is a big hp engine with my exhuast being 3'' its the only remaining restriction i have so mark thinks for now we will be looking at 600BHP but whatever it makes it makes
more to come as i hear back from MAD...

Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
cheers gents yer, altho i have always kept the car road usable i do have my audi too so i wont be using it all the time more weekends. It is really depending on the turbo choice (have to see how laggy it is) the perfect road spec car i love it everytime i drive it still and have alot of small things still to sort. But thats nothing.
Just wanna tweek things up now bth my cars are perfect road cars now. will be looking to hold onto both for at least a few years now as i wanna concentrate on getting a bigger business in the nxt couple of yrs now so wanna fund that!
James what you up too these days?

Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
Gotta love having comfy economy and noisy, extreme pace!
I'm still living in Somerset matey, in design engineering these days. Still got my 8P A3, still waiting for the turbo to let go so I can jump it up to 220bhp I'm a biker boy these days too, got myself a Honda CBR600 a couple of months ago - very happy to be back into bikes and loving having some proper pace again! I still have thoughts and dreams lurking, regarding building myself a truly fast car, but that will have to wait. What's the plan with work then - bigger premises, or a second shop?

Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
NOT 100% on what i wanna do yet but will be 1 of 3-4 things.
1. i'll look for a better busier shop.
2. i will totally get out of he business and setup doing something else (due to competition and margins getting worse and worse)
3. Have a break for a couple of years get a normal job and maybe get back into it in a few years when the economy is better.
I came into this in the worst possible time and yes im still here and making money but the margins have got worse people want the food the prices they were 2 years ago and that just isnt possible, ie in the last year i PERSONALLY lost 6k due to the potato price doubleing now i obviously couldnt double my price so it came out of my pocket! If anyone got a 6k pay decrease they would quit, i couldnt an i had to take and lump it! i work hard 6 day weeks and 70hr+weeks which is fine but the reason i got into this on my own was to get on the ladder make money and get a busier shop,, AND i dont wanna be working what i work now for the next 5 years i have no life! So i need to make a decision in the next year really!

Re: My Escort Cosworth... It Runs...
Sounds tough dude, damn those pricey taters!! I hope something good crops up in the shape of a well-located shop or a decent fill-in job. Who knows where it might lead?
That red Escort Cosworth - is it the one from about four years ago that was built to a brilliant standard, perhaps got bumped at a track day or something, and was then broken for parts almost immediately, a handful of weeks or months after completion?

Re: My Escort Cosworth... mapped...
could be james not sure!?
OK well its mapped and got 525hp 455lbft, bit down on power due to the intercooler not performing well at this level and the exhaust being restrictive and possibly a turbo issue. However it runs well and is fine But the 2 issues can be resolved quite easy so first stage will be the cooler being replaced which is now ordered, next is the exhaust which i already have the metal for i just need to mock it up and get it welded....
Then i will see if mark wans to have another go and see what it will do, if the power does not increase as it should then theres a turbo/manifold problem and i'll have to replace the manifol for the T4 flange design and swap to a borg warner turbo...

Re: My Escort Cosworth... MAPPED
Shouldn't all of the above have been specified by whoever's doing all your engine building/mapping work before you ordered and paid for them dude? That must be a bit gutting? I'm sure it makes the world turn backwards with 525bhp, I just feel for you having to shell out a further £3k or so to get what you hoped you'd have now!

Re: My Escort Cosworth... MAPPED
there was just slight confusion james, this turbo was bought off harvey gibbs off his white escort which he has now sold. so should be fine!? The cooler was not tested on a bigger HP car like mine and basically it didnt work enough. The exhaust was always gonna need doing anyway... So not major money to spend just kinda backwards in coming forwards but it will be slowly resolved, problem for now is it has a intermitant overboost problem for some reason it didnt do it on mapping then he activated the ecu controls like the launch control then didnt take it back out. On driving home yest at times it holds 2.3bar and others it overboosts and we can see why its doing it as it wasnt before however there seems to be no W/G pipe problems!?

Re: My Escort Cosworth... MAPPED
Is it a temporary overboost, or does it continuously hold elevated pressures every now and then? Does it happen at the same engine speed/throttle openings every time? How much is it overboosting by?

Re: My Escort Cosworth... MAPPED
hopefully have some more movement soon, i am going to be looking to have the car sent to Spec R for my new cooler in the nxt few weeks in the meantime i am deciding on a new turbo, not that theres anything wrong with the current one it just doesnt suit the spec of the engine really. Also the new exhaust is being built just now, altho i have put some of it on hold as i am now having thoughts of having it side exit Also due to my rear spoilers bubbling after only a couple of years tbh i am thinking of fcuking them off and going WRC route as it bugs me them bubbling all the time ...
will have pics soon but trying to just perfect what i have now

Looks an absolute animal Ad, wheels, and body styling really work.
Shame about the power but it's workable with the correct bit's, even at the power levels that mine will be at it's going to need a Garrett core cooler.
Bumping this up as a couple of months as passed
