My Eunos Roadster track car (13/8/10)For Sale

Postby hb69 on Sun Aug 16, 2009 9:57 pm

So a while back me and my brother bought a Eunos. Havent done a thread about it yet, so here goes

Here it is standard

Image

Image

Go faster dent

Image

First thing i did was sort the brakes, as they were dreadful. Set of new discs and yellowstuff pads

Image

The suspension was also in need of attention, the words 'past their best' dont even begin to describe it. Avo coilovers should do the job

Image

Image

Image

Doing something

Image

Toby came over to help fit the rear suspension i was having so many problems with, here he is with the bent bolt

Image

In all its glory, never had to deal with such a stubborn bolt.

Image

New wing, rattle canned by myself :aviator:

Image

How it sits now

Image

Image

The interior is now completely empty :D Just seats, dash and steering wheel. Desperately needs new tyres, some r888's or 048's are on the cards, and a 4 wheel alignment.

Also got a decat waiting to go on. Needs a new roof, cage, service and a good run. Not used it since i bought it home

Que the comments on it being a hairdressers car etc....I think im immune to them now :P Rwd and Lsd is at least a little bit cool isnt it?

Ahh I love it! :D

Always loved these, espically the Euno's. Is it an import?

I want one!

eunos are always imports.
imports are called Roadster, not MX-5.
and a clear way of knowing if its an import is by the rear license plate. UK one's have a the normal wide rectangular plate.
where as imports have the square shaped ones with the license number split over 2 lines.

I hope to get one of these one day! I've got a mx5 as a model car, in silver stone metallic too.
Though I wouldn't want one in silver. Either classic red, brilliant black, or the nice rare Merlot Mica :D

Cheers James. Yes its a Eunos, which is the japanese equivalent of the mx5. Easy way to tell the difference is the number plate is square and the fog light is an afterthought (usually fitted when they come into the country) on a Eunos. Bonus of it being an import is that theres lest rust on it than a UK model, and most of them had lsd fitted as standard.

DK- Yeah silver wasnt my first choice, but it came up cheaply and was too convenient not to buy.I quite like the colour now though :aviator: Id love a 1.8is one day, such brilliant cars

Nick-I tried keeping the panel, but it got thrown out i think :( No idea whats coming to combe, both cars are having their issues, whichever sorts their life out the quickest will be coming i guess

James- to be honest this evening is the only time ive taken the mazda out on the coilovers, and they need setting up properly, im sure the wheel alignment is all over the shop. When i first got it the suspension was very tired, so it was quite skittish. Im waiting for it to be properly set up, and on decent rubber, and ill hopefully report back that they are like a cheap elise :aviator:

Ratspeed- Yeah, they arent too much hassle to supercharge. When it blows up ill bolt one on :)

Ashley- If its reliable, then i hope to have a bit of fun with it on track. Needs some good tyres first, i think its currently running on kwik fit own brand tyres :oooh:

Forget the supercharged one!

The garage next to mine at work had a limited edition turbo one in this week. Now that was sweet! :)

I managed to find a few spare hours to get it set up, things to try and do before the weekend are,

remove undertray, as its catching on everything
fit r888's
remove aerial and blank hole
fit bonnet pins
fit decat if enough time

We shall see...

So as some will know, the eunos made its maiden voyage on track at combe. Only had a few mishaps, a hose splitting just after sound testing, as expertly shown by Waynes hand

Image

The repair job, samco with a bolt in the end, still going strong now

Image

And a photo of it out on track. This was the first session, of which it only managed 1 and a bit laps. This is my fault and i didnt bleed the coolant, or put enough in. We filled it up and it didnt misbehave all weekend after that

Image

So yesterday i did something id been meaning to do all along, but as it wasnt necessary i didnt rush to get it done. Sprayed the wheels matt black

Image

Image

Image

Image

So ill do a full write up of the weekend in the events gallery when ive got all the pictures sorted. I couldnt have been happier with the way it handled on track, just needs a bit more straight line speed for the faster circuits, like combe.

Oh, and r888's are probably the greatest tyre ever invented :aviator:

Wheels look pretty good now. They definately needed something doing to them and the matt black works a treat.

After the weekend i have to agree that those tyres are amazing!! :aviator:

Now get back to uploading the other 500 pictures on to my photobucket :P

Wouldnt bother with an s2k mate. My dads got one, although they are quick, very quick in fact, and sound so good. They just weigh a bit too much. Although I can imagine with a supercharger bolted on i wouldnt care about how much it weighs

Ive been doing little jobs on the mazda over the last month or so, thought id post a little update.

Firstly, i noticed pretty much all the bushes are all really old, so ive started to polybush the whole car, starting with the rear arb and droplinks

Image

Image

Painted matt black

Image

Bushes fitted

Image

And on

Image

Next, as a matter of course i changed the brake fluid for some 5.1 i had in the shed

This guy came over to watch

Image

New fluid :aviator:

Image

Next was the grotty bit in the boot underneath the battery

Kurusted

Image

Rusty brackets

Image

Another insect observing

Image

Sanded and sprayed ford moondust silver (had a can lying around in the shed)

Image

Brackets matt black

Image

Back together, all nice and shiny

Image

The only other thing ive changed really is the rear foglamp, ive fitted one about half the size of the old one

Image

Couple of photos after a wash

Image

Image

Image

Will now be getting bits together for the next phase :aviator:

Looking more like a track weapon, love it.

I've seen a few mx5's completely ditch the bolt on fog lamps and wire up the centre brake light to act as it instead. Cleans up the back end and keeps it legal too :Q

Toby, Smo and Dave, Cheers guys :D

Shaun- Just looking at that picture now i wish id done them too, didnt even think about them till i was bolting it all back together. Thats another job for next weekend now

Ashley-Cheers, next is more weight saving, and more power, and a rollcage. Ive considered forced induction, but need to keep it a budget track car, so dont know if ill be going down that road

Ratspeed-Hadnt really thought of that. I have no idea on what imports are tested on, on the MOT. They all seem to have a third brake light, if its not required for the MOT then the foglight has found its new home  :aviator:
