small update

at last i've picked up a fuel sender that seems to be in a good order today

Image

Image

jay or anyway else, hoping you can advise me about fitting my walbro cossie pump, i'm sure there's certain parts that are not needed on the sender that can be removed?, does the new pump sit on the bottom of the fuel pump cradle still or further up or does it not matter?, the 2 power wires need soldering onto the existing power wires on the loom which is failey obvious, i've also bought some new mikalor constant tension spring clips for the fuel lines and i did'nt know if they might be a better thing to use to hold the fuel pipe on between the pump and sender pipework rather than jubliee clips?

thanks in advance

it should fit the craddle ok.
as for wiring , i used crimps on mine which was fine, and cablle tied the pump to the return pipe

jay i've just looked at your uprated/sender setup that u put on my thread on pg 7, and i notice a few differences,

1. the gold circular piece has been removed(sorry don't know what u call this)
2. black box which the live & neutral go in and out of

i take it these can both be removed

yeah, the black box is the surpressor, and can be bypassed.

the gold round bit is the throttle dampner, again this can be by passed with a bit of fuel line.
some people remove these anyway due to the higher pressure from the pump, as they can sometimes leak, i choose to leave mine on but removing it in place of fuel line is fine

so jay is this pump actually not yours, just a photo you found on the net? not that it really matters that much, but i guess this is what i need to get mine to look like?

Image

what about the filter bag, it looks like there is a filter element inside the bottom of the pump where the filter bag will attach to, do i need the filter bag on there too

This is my photo Actually - when i fitted a new pump to H885SEP
The pump i installed had a filter built in the bottom so didnt need the filter bag but you can fit it if you want for added filtering. Just make sure you put it back on straigt so it dont hit the bottom of the tank when you refit the sender.

Do away with the Black suppressor and the throttle dampner. Makes it much better for the sender. The black box can cause issues and short out. The throttle dampner has rubber seals which perrish and leak fuel back into the tank from the feed. Hence you then lose pressure and power

hi mate

i must have the same pump as you too then, it's one of the walbro cossie ones, i've done exactly as u said, the surpressor and black box are now gone, and as u said the pump has a filter in the bottom of it and tbh i can't see how i can get the bag on there anyway

i've put a black plastic rubber seal that goes round the bottom of the pump(that came with the pump) rather than the ford plastic washer that the base of the pump sits on, hope thats right, it seems to be the only difference

just need to solder the 2 wires and i should be pretty much there i think

good man ! :)

i used heat shrink on the soldered joints as you cant wrap them in black tape being in a petrol tank.

make sure the heat shrink dont melt with petrol though.

the pre filter bag should go on paul, they can be a bit of a $hit to get on, but they gotta be a nice tight fit otherwise there fall off.
just make sure its round the right way and the long bit aint sender pump side

hi clark,jay

managed to fit the pump on the sender assembly, the cradle at the bottom need modding slightly to allow the pump to drop down so i could attach the bag but all on now, cable tied the sleve back round the pump, i just wanted to check ive done it all as it should be before i go any further

the last thing is to wire up the pump to the existing loom and heat shrink the connections which is fairly striaght forward, but i wanted to check the pump works first before putting it all back in the car, makes sence really, did'nt know if i could put it accross a 9v square battery to check, just a thought?, steve said the pump had done 50 miles tops so i can't see there will be a issue with it

looks good to me.

plug it in as normal, and turn the key see if it primes up, dont run it dry though, but a prime will be ok.
if you want, put it in a dish with petrol in it

i got my new cossie pump mounted to the sender last night, removed the damper and black electrical box mounted to the roof of the sender, these are all known to leak or fail so jano and others advised me to remove them anyway, soldered the pump wire into the existing loom, burning my hand very badly in the process, before putting the sender in the tank i plugged it into the loom in a small container of fuel just to check it was priming and pumping fuel properly, last thing i wanted was to have it all bolted on and find out for whatever reason it was'nt working properly, but all seemed fine, mounted the pump/sender unit in the tank and fitted the tank into the car on my own, not the easiest of jobs to do by yourself espically with the injury to my hand, fitted all new bolts and hose clips so if it ever needs to come out again t should be very easy, great to have it running again, well pleased

picked up another bonnet last week my other one that i had been working on i think was a bit twisted as it was'nt sitting striaght

same work as before smoothed swaige line, badge hole welded and paint, i'm still not 100% convinced to use it as i can't picture it as it's in a completly different colour, but it's going to the painters tomorrow for paint with the front bumper for a fresh coat of paint and the mcr logo in the splitter is being removed
