My Fiesta RS Turbo project - AN ACTUAL UPDATE!!! (08/05/13)
Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 4/1/10-Wheels+Protectors)
Cheers people!
lol, was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention the tread on the tyre. Was going to mention it in the post but forgot then couldnt be bothered editing it lol. Dont worry, as said, it is a trial fit and it just happened to be the wheel arch I was closest to with the wheel I was holding!
And the wheels are 16" with 195/40/R16 toyo's on them

near enough
they'll be a squeeze now its lowered. Do you reckon you'll need arch work?
When you gunna get it down off the blocks then I wouldent of dared left it like that over the months you've been away

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 4/1/10-Wheels+Protectors)
Cheers guys
Should'nt need arch work with it only being lowered 35mm. If so will only need a little bit. Im trying to decide whether to spece the wheels out 5mm or 3mm at the mo, they deffo need spacers but im not sure on which ones to get. I think I will probs go for 5mm.
Will be coming off the blocks when she's all done and the engine back in so probs july some time, unless she falls off before then

Cheers dude!
Was seriously considering spraying them white but couldnt bring myself to do it as the factory finish on them is so good! Thought I would start with them how they are and then can always spray them in the future, maybe when they are stone chipped etc which they inevitably will get with the roads round us!
I do adore them in white too!

Yea, thats my view, you see loads of white comps (and granted, they look really good) but I think silver ones will stand out abit as they are different

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 4/1/10-Wheels+Protectors)
Lovin this car mate looking better than new under there..
Wheels finshing it off nicely
It's got me thinking about doing a similar thing with mine. You say you used hammerite red, was this spray can or tin and brush on? also did you put anything on the floor before painting it, i.e stone chip ect..
Keep the pic's coming. Top stuff..

The hammerite I used was brush on and it worked a treat. Put two coats on everything to give it all proper protection and the prep work involved removing all the dirt and underseal off the car first using white spirit. Once it was all cleaned I just applied the hammerite straight to it.
Hope that helps, any more questions just ask

Thanks for the info mate..
Used spray can Hammerite before on mounts, wishbones ect, seems to work really well, + it guarantees 5 years rust free, so should work well on the under body..
Top work mate, keep the pic's coming.

Yea, I've used the spray hammerite on wheels and stuff before now. Its really good and gives a really nice finish, but is thinned quite abit to let it spray easily. I would reccomend for the underneath you use brush on stuff as it is alot thicker and so gives alot more protection

Humm yeah fair point mate.. It looks like the red is a good match to the body colour. I hope the white hammerite is a good match for diamand white i'll look into it..

Yea, the red is a pretty good match, not perfect but close. The white is pretty close too, have seen a few frst's that have been done with it underneath and it looks really good

wow mate your a legend, such a high build quality!
the floorpan is a work of art mate, such a pitty its gonna be face down 90% of the time lol
can i ask what paint you used to do the floor? looks like a perfect match to radiant but looks too thick to be a rattle cans
them comps are goregous, personally i prefere them to be in dark grey like graphite
i can only dream to do a rebuild to this quality one day mate, good work

Used brush on smooth red hammerite to do the floorpan and yes it did take alot, think it was about two and a half big tins all in all but was well worth it for the protection it provides. Gave the whole thing two coats too.
It is a good match, just slightly more orange under harsh light but it isnt really noticable.
Im hoping the car will be face down 100% of the time too

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 12/4/10-CHANGE OF PLAN!)
Right then, its finally time to reveal the events of the weekend!
Was searching the net a couple of weeks back and saw a FRST for sale in scotland which had basically had done to it what I have done to mine but with more parts being replaced and in some cases (such as the suspension and fuel pump) better parts fitted than I was using. The car has been dry stored for a total of 12 years and the current owner had owned it for four years of which two years it had been totally rebuilt by him and two years it had been tucked up in a garage. Since the rebuild the car has'nt done 1 mile yet so all the parts are still new and it has also had a full ford respray as one of the guys mates worked at ford.
The car was 99% complete but didnt have an mot as a few little things still needed doing such as adjusting the handbrake due to new handbrake cable and brake shoes and cylinders and getting the horn to work etc.
The engine and gearbox have both had a full rebuild too with a spec list as follows:
Engine.
Cylinder head cleaned and inspected for warping etc
All new gaskets throughout
new cylinder head bolts
new standard camshaft kit inc followers
new engine bearings and thrust washers
arp con rod bolts
accralite forged pistons and rings
new water pump
new oil pump
original flywheel inspected ok to use
new flywheel bolts
block honed and refaced and chemically cleaned then painted high temp paint
new high pressure fuel pump (if you wanted to up the boost it can cope with the added fueling required)
new magnecor 8.5mm race ignition leads
Samco turbo hoses
bailey dump valve
scorpion exhaust system
k&n induction kit
Gearbox.
Recon gearbox
new standard clutch
motul racing fully synthetic gearbox oil
new driveshafts
Suspension.
new koni adjustable suspension kit
new suspension arms with powerflex bushes fitted
powerflex anti roll bar bushes front and rear, and rear beam mountings
new top mount bushes and bearings
new wheel bearings front and rear
new recon steering rack
new tie rod ends
Brakes.
new standard calipers
new brake hoses
new discs
new pads
new drums
new shoes
new wheel cylinders
new handbrake cables
The car has done a genuine 66000 miles from new with full ford service history and MOT's to prove and is still on the original sills, filler cap and arches due to there being literally no rust anywhere!
Its in much better condition than mine was when I started and the interior is like its just rolled out of the showroom with no wear whatsoever!!
Basically it is a much better car than mine was before I started and it was a REALLY good price so I couldnt resist! .
So anyway I went up to view it and check it all out and it was better than I imagined in the flesh so I left a deposit and went back this weekend with a car trailer and drove it all the way back home!
I'm sooooo happy now, its absolutely amazing!!
The plan is to finish off the other car and sell it on for a good price and keep this car as my new pride and joy
Expect me at ford fair in my new baby this year!
Anyway, here's some pics of out 1000 mile round trip to get the car:
The other rs is looking abit sorry for its self in the last pics but dont worry, it will be finished off and sold on and get the much deserved love required!!
Anyway, let me know what you think

As said it looks like a cracker bar the hideous steering wheel and gear stick surround / knob.
Have you got the engine back for the other one yet? They both look parked up there as well.

Cheers for the comments people!
Dont worry, the wheel and gearknob/gaitor will be standard very shortly, I hate the look of them too!
I got the engine back at xmas, looks absolutely cracking, burton's have done an awesome job! It will be going into the new car I got yesterday and the rebuilt engine that came with the new car will be going in the other frst to sell
Brake lines will be green very shortly, dont worry!
What you mean gammon slipper pipe?
Cheers mate! Will be putting the comps on the new one, so you will have some competition at ford fair this year!
Will be staying standard apart from the wheels tho and will be putting orange indicators on and as said standard steering wheel and gearknob too
