My Fiesta RS Turbo project - AN ACTUAL UPDATE!!! (08/05/13)
Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 6/7/10-*Progress*)
Dave G fsi :Cheers for the comments guyssjoyce666 :Is that Rams old steering wheel or is there now a third one to be known of ?
Looks very nice
Scott
Nah mate, its a momo wheel (you can see it in pics further up the thread). Looks gash but dont worry, standard wheel will be going on shortly
Thought it might have been the RS Accessory wheel that I have and that Ram used to have on the FRST he has recently sold

Excellant attention to detail Dave,
Are you swapping wheels studs when the Comps go on ?
its just that the standard ones are not long enough with spacers fitted,
Best place is Burton Power for them.
I assume thats my old knob being put to good use

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 15/7/10*Progress-page 7*)
Another update
Been doing more work on the RS getting her ready for ford fair. Still got to change the sump gasket as it is leaking and put my samco coolant hoses on but apart from that she is ready for the MOT
Booking her in for Monday so fingers crossed she passes!
Anyway, here are the progress pics:
Standard side repeaters fitted:
Brake caliper brackets cleaned up and painted to match the new calipers:
Ford racing pillar pod guages fitted:
Dealer sticker fitted:
Caliper brackets fitted:
Standard steering wheel fitted:
Also changed the boot decal as the one it had on was the wrong colour:
Before:
After:
Also changed the sunroof as the one it had in had an rs turbo emblem on which I didnt like. Has anyone seen one of these before??
And finally a quick vid of how she is sounding : (click on it!!)
Comments welcome

Cheers for the positive comments guys, means alot! Makes all the effort seem worthwhile
Yea, was thinking that. Problem is people who work at dealerships dont seem to have any real care for fords heritage/older fords any more. Well thats what I've found with my local dealers anyway, they all seem to have the attitude of not caring and they are only there because they have to be to earn money
Cheers rob. Its a scorpion full system. Sounds just right imo
Cheers joe. I love the comps soooo much, best purchase I have ever made I think. Cant wait to get them fitted now, waiting till after the MOT on monday incase they damage them in the garage

aye but yet again mate, this is a RS dealership, as it said in classic ford mag they were specially selected with the enthusiast in mind, enthusiast workers who can relate to the customer
so it reckons lol, but still it aint no ordinary dealer, give it a go, if they shrug theyre shoulders at you least you can have a look at the Rs models eh

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 15/7/10*Progress-page 7*)
True mate, think you may have persuaded me. Might be winging my way there soon then...
Anyway, bit of an update, she wont be doing anything atm as a result of a leaking sump.
Was leaking quite bad so I changed the gasket yesterday which was a right ball ache to say the least, had to remove the exhaust, crossmember, starter motor, alternator, drive belt, exhaust mount and clutch cover plate to get the sump off
Anyway, all this effort, got it all back together and it still leaked but in a different place
Took it all off again today and am picking up another new gasket tomorrow to try again. Have to cancel the mot which is booked for tomorrow too now
Fingers crossed she wont leak after tomorrows efforts.....

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 18/7/10*Sump-page 7*)
Well she is fixed now. Did the gasket again today and it was still leaking in the same place. Had a closer look and it turned out it was leaking from the oil pump just above the sump. Turned out the bolts were'nt tight on it! Tightened them up and now she is fine!
The gasket was leaking originally tho so it was worth doing
MOT is tomorrow morning at 11am, feeling nervous but at the same time im very excited about driving her. First time actually behind the wheel of a FRST!!
Wont be getting much sleep tonight
Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 18/7/10*Sump-page 7*)
Well she failed!
Not much at all tho. Handbrake needs adjusting slightly which I have done now but the main thing was the front shockers.
Basically, the springs were moving within their carriers so it failed on that. Took them apart when I got back to see if the bearings had seized and it turns out the numpty I bought the car off hadnt put bearings in!
..........hence the springs moving within their carrier! Ordered some new bearings which I'm collecting tomorrow morning, fitting them then getting it retested tomorrow afternoon.
Still very happy tho as she passed on everything else!
Well pleased with emissions too, the limit is 1200ppm for hydrocarbons and mine is kicking out a mere 168ppm
Have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed driving her the 2.5miles to the mot place, sounded awesome when the turbo spooled up then hissed when taking my foot off, loved it!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow now

Cheers dude
Dont worry, the si isnt being neglected. She is my summer daily drive, while the RS is just a weekend/nice weather toy really.
Drive everywhere in the si enjoying every minute of it too!
Its funny, when I had the zetec s the si felt really roar and "back to basics" in comparison as it wasnt as refined as the zs. And after driving the rst today, got into the si and it felt ultra refined compared to the rs
Love it tho. You feel you're really part of the mechanics of the car as you drive along

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 20/7/10*MOT page 7*)
ha awsome mate, never neglect it theyre such good cars considering theyre cheap and old now,
i bloody love mine its such a good car, it sin great condition, hopefully ill keep it long enough to do soemthing liek you did with yours and rebuild it with mostly new parts, not that it needs it direly
seriously contemplating dropping a 2.0l in it though, the bad points aint got nothing on the good,
similar MPG beteen the three engines, 1.6 1.8 and 2.0, piece of piss to do, all the engines are cheap to buy, big benefits of 130bhp over 90, and masses more torque (gain of 21lbs/ft with a 2.0)
biggest bad point is spending £100-£140 for the engine, another £30-50 for the ecu and then bits liek water pump, and some scrap parts like sump and pick up, and rebuilding the engine with gaskets and bolts
then ofcourse theres the insurance costs doutb it will be much more than the 1.8 mk4 was though

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 29/7/10*FINISHED!*)
Well I'm pleased to say she is finally finished as from yesterday! Was a hell of alot of messing around I can tell you, changed almost every engine part to find out why she wasnt running right and it turns out it was a faulty MAP sensor and a vacuum leak. Always seems easy with hindsight!
Ah well, at least it means she has had an even more thorough going over anyway!
Cant believe how well its all worked out too as I finished her yesterday and started my new job today, couldnt of worked better!
All I need to do now is some heat wrapping which Im doing at the weekend then roll on ford fair! Really cant wait now!
Im going to tease you all by not uploading pics so you can all wait till ford fair to see how she's looking now, all Im saying is im very pleased with the outcome of the wheels and all the other work I've done on her
Ooo, she's got a brand new clifford alarm on her now too, so you can all test out the warn away chirp from the proximity sensors at ford fair
Just soo pleased she's finally done and will make ford fair!
