My Fiesta RS Turbo project - AN ACTUAL UPDATE!!! (08/05/13)
Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 10/8/09-pics!)
Update time!
Well, I've been working for 5 days solid on my car from about ten till 8pm every day getting the underneath sorted. Before ford fair I welded on two new sills and a couple of patches that needed doing and got it all done just before I went away for ford fair.
After getting back, I ground back all the welds, painted it all, cleaned up the whole of the underneath of the car and then finished it off with two coats of smooth red hammerite. To say i'm pleased with the result is the understatement of the century, I'm absolutely delighted with how its looking now.
The shell is just about done now so next up is to derust and paint all the bits I took off the car and rebuild it.
I also ordered all the performance bits today including mongoose 4" outwardly rolled exhaust (turbo back), full set of powerflex polybushes and exhaust mounts, fast road piper cam kit, magnecor kv85 leads, gmax shocks and springs (-35mm) and a set of samco hose clips for turbo and coolant hoses.
I've already got a dump valve, samco hoses in blue (turbo and coolant) and chrome bits and pieces for the engine bay.
I can't wait to start building her back up now!!
Anyway, here's some pics of progress:

Cheers mate
Didn't do the full sills as the top part was fine and if I had cut the whole thing off it would have meant trying to lose the joints at the bottom of the rear pannel and it would have been really difficult to make it look right as the car has already been resprayed. The way I did it meant that it will all be under the bodykit anyway so therefore hidden.
I cut the old sills off before fitting my new ones and cleaned up the inner sills, just didn't cut them all the way to the top joint as the others were fine

it doesnt matter mate, just as good what ever side, but turbo cars have the fan in front of the rad due to little space in the engine bay with the turbo and downpipe

As jay said above mate, it doesn't matter which side the fan is, but the outside is better on the rs due to space restrictions

Update time!
Well, I've been mad busy on the rst recently working about 8 hours a day on her! Got loads done tho so its worth it.
Firstly, got the front crossmember and battery tray cleaned, derusted and painted up:
Then got the bushes and antiroll bar off the back axle ready for my polybushes and cleaned up and painted them:
Before:
cleaned:
painted:
Next up was the petrol tank. Cleaned it up and painted it and was suprised how good condition it was:
before:
cleaned:
painted:
Next was the spare wheel and spare whell holder both cleaned up and painted:
before:
painted:
cleaned:
painted:
Also did the brake back plates:
These are now both painted up, no pics of them atm tho.
I also cleaned up and painted the fuel lines and put a new handbrake cable on, and then built the car back up with the cleaned/painted components.
I also got the new rear shocks and springs on ready for the back axle to go back on. Here's some pics of the whole lot assembled:
Also got the bodykit cleaned up and back on, with the propper green strips in the front and back bumpers now too
Finally, I got he block stripped down and have now sent it off to burtons for re-bore, new pistons, crankshaft regrind, big end shells etc so it will be capable of up to 300bhp ready for my future engine plans
Pic before it was collected:
Next up is to finish rebuilding the back end of the car then do what I can get done on the front end before I go back to uni. Polybushes are holding me up at the moment, were meant to turn up a week and a half ago and still arn't here yet Also, cant seem to get hold of rear antiroll bar brackets. Ford have stopped doing them and no-one else does either. Ford are currently searching all of their european supplies to try and find some for me. Cant believe it as these are mot failure parts and lots of mk3's had them, cant belive ford arnt doing them anymore!!
Anyone know anywhere that does them still?
Anyway, let me know what you think

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 28/8/09-lots of pics!)
Cheers mate ans yea, ford must have just stopped doing them, dont know what they think were going to do now tho, I hope a specialist company starts making them or something?
At the moment I can't afford to get the top end done on my budget so all it will have to start with is a piper fast road cam. Im getting the bottom end done now ready for when i've saved up enough money to have the top end done, ported and polished etc and get a bigger turbo, chipped etc and will initially aim for around the 200bhp mark then work up from there

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 28/8/09-lots of pics!)
I want to get mine around the 200bhp mark aswell, i just wondered what you are going to do from there, to get 300bhp. As i havnt seen many at the 300bhp mark and would be interested to see what you have to do to the cvh to get it there.
What piper cam are you getting??
Also why did you pick piper cams rather than newman or kent etc.

Burton are building the bottom end so it can take up to 300bhp but I probs wont reach that mark in the near future, maybe in a few years when I will have more money to throw at it.
I picked the piper cam as they are the best for power delivery righ through the rev range imo, but they are all pretty much the same anyway mate, not much in it really.
Got the cvh turbo piper fast road cam kit

Cheers mate, just running standard box atm until it gives in then will uprate from there. Will only be round 150bhp to begin though so will be fine to start with

Re: My Fiesta RS Turbo project (update 22/9/09-Final pics!)
Rite, its time for the final update on this project until Christmas as I've gone back to uni now. I had a final push before going back to uni and got the whole back end of the car finished, along with a few other bits and pieces too.
First of all the polybushes finally arrived so I could get the back axle back on:
Fitted:
Next I re-assembled the brake back plates and got them fitted, along with new brake cylinders and new shoes:
Next I cleaned up, de-rusted and painted the rear brake drums ready to put back on:
Refitted:
I also got the gear linkages cleaned up and painted them in gold hammerite :
Also cleaned up and re-fitted the washer bottle:
Also bought and fitted a brand new genuine Ford filler cap:
Also cleaned up, de-rusted and painted the front anti-roll bar, suspension arm carriers and crossmember (havnt got any painted pics of these):
Some final pics of what she looks like underneath now:
Comments welcome

Well, I'm at Sheffield uni so not far from you, still possible!
The engine was meant to be back last week but the Guy in charge of engine rebuilds at Burtons has been off sick so it has been delayed. Looks like it will be in a couple of weeks.
lol, the gearknob was £15, brand new in its packet Cant remember what the stall was called at ford fair I got it from, was a stall that just sold genuine ford parts.
