Hiya Mate just wondered what happened to the red H781 AKP.....as my car is H779.....
Just curious as the car would have originally come from Kent as mine has.
Cheers

HI there,
If you look back through the thread its from a frst that someone was breaking near me. I bought the bumper off it. I would imagine the cars been scrapped now though.
Gareth.

Re: And so it begins.......*update New pics 23.10.09*
Small update.
Had a week off thsi week so have detailed the FRST. The results are stunning compared to how the car used to clean up. Also removed the badgeing from the hatch in fovour of the orignal decal.
First off the car was washed using :
poorboys super slick & suds - dried using - Euro W big & thirsty woffle weave towel.
I then clayed the entire car, which the first time I had ever done it to this car. Then the routine was : Poorboys SSR2.5, Sonus SFX-1 restore poish, Clearkote vanillae moose glaze, Clearkote Red Moose machine glaze, Poorboys EX-P and finished with two coats of clearkote carnauba moose wax.
Heres the pics befores:
Afters, there arnt many of the whole car as it started pissing down again :
And finally i decided to pt the original decal on the back which went from this :
to this..
to this..
Will hopefully get some more full shots of the car soon if it stops raining!
Will be very shortly up for sale now.
Comments welcome, Gareth.

Re: And so it begins.......*MOT today*
Oh dear bad news.....................she failed........
1. Nearside washer jet blocked
2. Steering rack gater loose
3. Nearside bottom suspension arm/bush kanckered.
4. Off side rear brake pipe slightly corroded where it meets the wheel cylinder.
So it looks like i will just break it and sell it for parts. Who wants what?
Gareth.
lol Ive done the jets, made up a new brake pipe and fitted that and re-secured the gater. Just waiting for a bottom leg now - then it will have 12 months ticket. The MOT tester said im stupid if i want to sell it, he said there car is top notch underneath with no rust and he has'nt seen a mk3 as clean as this for years!
So considering its been in the garage for two years its hardly major what it failed on.
Happy days.

Re: And so it begins.......*MOT today*
Tell you Dave I will swop it for that turbo oil feed you have lol.
On a more serious note one thing i forgot to mention was that since i returned the engine back to standard it has been running really ruff, some of it was down to the battery being totally wanked, when i say ruff it just really struggled to idle, constantly hunting all the time. As part of the MOT they check the emissions, and it turned out the por idle was sue to it running to lean, simple richen up on the co2 pot and its a compleatly different car, idle is pure and smoth no sings of hunting at all, so i was well chuffed about that.
Plan is get in MOT'd monday then i drive it to my nearest rolling road / tuners and have it set up perfect again, after that welllllllllll the plan was to put it up for sale but TBH ive had it for years and that tiny little drive i had in it on the way home from the MOT approx 2 miles it just put such a smile on my face, the car is so much fun to drive the handling is awsome of course now im umming and aring what to do again!
Who knows.......its still mine atm so will enjoy it untill my mind is made up da ja vue all over again!

Cheers guys.
James - I was surprised to see you were selling the zt / now breaking it. How come you decided to in the end?
I think if i sell it now they will really start to go up in value, just like when i sold my old Black2 mk2 xr2
Just cant make my mind up!

Re: And so it begins.......*MOT today*
Yes still have the car atm. Just got to fit the bottom arm and get it passed.
Really realy unsure what to do with her at the moment. I do love this car ive had it such a long time i just do not know what to do, im worried if i advertise it for what its worth the right buyer will come along and take it away, which will leave me in the same situation as i was in a few years back where by I sold my mk2 xr2 for peanuts, literally 12 months later they had doubled, if not trebbled in value. I just know that will hapen now if i sell it.
The thing is though we are looking at moving house now to buy a bigger property and the money that this has tied up would come in handy, as ive said through out the thread if money was'nt such an issue atm theres no way i would contemplate selling, im kind of stuck in between the two atm, im not so desperate that it has to go tomorrow but on the other hand the cash would be nice - its hard to explain 100% but any home owner recently starting out / buying their second home will probably understand my situation.

Re: And so it begins.......*Fresh pics 10.04.10*
Thanks guys.
Yesterday afternoon i found a spare half hour to fit the nearside lower suspension arm. Ive done it but now my bloddy steering wheel is out of line for going straight ahead! I fudgekin hate it when its like that so now it means i need the bloody thing tracking as well - more money!
I can only presume the new arm is ever so slightly different - does anyone know if the the frst has its own specific bottom arm compared to other mk3 fiestas?
Gareth.

yes it does have its own arm.
well, the arm it self is shared with another, but the ball joints are different for the FRST
have a look at this post

i have recently seen a FRST arm with 2 rivets, but this was a extremly early frst, so the3y were changed from 2 to 3, prob as a ford mod like they do, from very early on, hence why frst ball joints will be 3 hole now not 2

Ahh great!
Bloody Ford always changing stuff. Its all a bit hard to follow this bottom leg stuff - I will check soon if the new leg has 3 bolts for the ball joint on. I know for a fact the one that came off is not a genuine Ford item either but then neither is the one ive just fitted. TBH I will just get it tracked and have the wheel reset how it should be. Good info though Jay.
Just need some MOT now, then i can enjoy the car in this great weather aswell.

Re: And so it begins.......*Fresh pics 10.04.10*
if one is different you will scub out a tyre even with tracking done mate.
best off making sure you have the right bits before getting it tracked other wise your only pay for tracking again and a tyre
FRST one should be 3 hole fixing, 10mm longer and 10mm set back, the complete arm is for the FRST and should be for the FRST only, although it seems some later rs1800's might have them, but then this is s/h info and could be the incorrect ones fitted to this rs1800 in question...
gen ford or not, as long as there 10mm longer and 10mm set back your be fine.
the power steering arms ar 10mm set back, but are not the longer ball joints so double check what you get as some after market arms are listed for the FRST but are not the correct items mate

Jay - this evening I whipped the leg off my brothers frst and im sure its as you have described above and i can evidently see the ball joint extends 10mm out further than the leg which i fitted to my car last week. I have a scrap xr2i and compared my brothers frst leg to the 2i one and again its in line with what you say the - the xr2i ball joint does not extend 10mm. The only thing i dont understand is the 10mm set back part?
how much i would love to buy this car!!!

I cant wait to get it mot'd now and actually use it a bit this year.lol
