Re: And so it begins.......*Fresh pics 10.04.10*
Small update to this but nothing changed on the car.
Yesterday was the cornwall rsoc moores tour so i went along and met up with my freind who has just finished restoring his saff cossie. The frst ran well and done over 100 miles with little to no drama, the only hazards on moment came when for some reason my rad fan came off its bracket at the top which meant it was rubbing against the back of the bumper luckily i had some cable ties in the car so a quick fix was done and we were back on our way again. Was a good turn out of RS cars about 45 in total i think rangeing from FRST's, focus rs'es new and old and safss etc.
Eventually we ended up back at wadebridge which is where the show is today and the camp site was a wash with awsome RS cars, was quite a sight to see so many cool Ford RS variants at the same place. Sadly no pics though. One observation I made yesterday is that my FRST just is'nt clean enough so cue some freshening up tactics. Main prioritys are bonnet respreayed and de-dented, rear bumper sprayed and the fuel cap area put right as its slightly blistered. Im also going to get the three spokes re-furbed, there were 4 other FRST's there 2 white ones and 2 grey ones and i would say mine was the worst example there. It also needs a bloody good set up on the rollers as it has a massive flat spot from 2-3k so i will be booking it in soon.

I felt good about the presntation of my car before I got to the show field and saw the other FRST's. It was just small things but add them all up and it equated to stunningly clean cars.
My genuine Ford repair panel has come now for the fuel cap area. Just need to get it to a body shop. You say you cant say why? You did'nt used to own it once upon a time did you?

Ahhhh i see.
Dont you have one now as well though?
I often wonder how the previous owners treated the car, we have had it for 8 years now and ive had it for 6 of them. Judging by the condition of the engine and running gear when by brother got it all those years ago i would say they did'nt look after it at all!

Nah best i could do is an RS1800....Just not the same
Yeah i wonder the same at times although going by the service history for it that i do have it's been fairly well taken care of...It would be interesting to talk to some of the previous owners and find out what they did to it during their time

lol I think the only thing the previous owners done to my frst was rag the living daylights out of it, the engine, turbo, clutch brakes were all shot when bruv bought it.
First thing my brother and Dad done was to completly rebuild the engine with new turbo etc etc and it had all new brakes at the same time. The car has harldy missed a beat since but in those 8 years since the engine has been rebuilt its done 25k tops.

It seems that is the life that most RS's are subjected to, i suppose it makes all the good ones that little bit more special. I'd say it was like a new car after all that work

Minor update to this.
Bought a forge actuator for it ages and ages ago but never fitted it. I shall be putting this on this evening because its finally booked in for a set up on the rolling road at 11.30 on Saturday. Hopefully they can sort it out, i am sure it just needs the fuel pressure tweeking and the c02. It was set up for the 701's blah blah but now its ni on standard so i hope there are no issues.
Also bettwr check its still in the Garage not even looked at if since October!
Updates on Saturday.

Re: And so it begins.......*Fresh pics 10.04.10*
Well where to start.
Had the car on the rolling road again to try and get it running correct but basically the same problem still persists.
The problem the car has is from 1000 - 3000 rpm the engine runs lean, from then on it runs flat line rich, turbo'd cars should be around .8 and mines like nearly off the scale, just flat line rich all the way.
the only way that he could get it anywhere near .8 was to bung the vac pipe from the fuel pressure regulater again, which im not happy about.
Has anyone ever experianced this problem or similar? I think pherhaps the map sensor is playing up??? or could the fuel pressure reg its self be wanked?
The ideal place to take it would be MSD but they are miles from me! Basically i dont want to sell it as it is, the tuner said how good condition the car is and the engine its self is fine and healthy, but this problem just wont go away!
Any ideas welcomed,
Fed up Gareth.!!!!!!!!!!!

You rekon? Well i will defo try that first ive got a couple os spare ones. The fuel it altered according to the boost which the map sensor reads and adjusts it via the fpr, is that correct? Jay have you ever heard of anything like this before?
If it still persists do you think it would be worth giving msd a call just to discus it on the phone, or would they not give out advice like that via phone????
Its so dam annoying though, just want it to run correct, im not bothered about the power, infact it was making decent power for standard 136bhp which is fine.

Re: And so it begins...RR'd 22.01.11 still not right
the FPR is pre set from the adjustment screw on idle, then it goes on vac and boost pressure, its not directly controlled by the ecu.
seems strange it playing up but ok when the vac pipes taken off, thats making me think maybe the diaphragm inside is iffy..., as you have spares its got to be worth a try, but fueling will need setting up again, as the xr2i is set different to the FRST (in std form)
as for msd, dont think ive ever dealt with them but from what i have read, they are very helpful.
i know clark called touqe of the devil and they we very helpfull with him, so if you get no joy from one, try the other.
but if it was my rs playing up like that, i would try a different FPR, then map sensor, i also have spare ACT sensors so would also try one of them (not all at same time, one bit, test etc) and go from there really

Yeah thats a good plan Jay. Ive got a spare FPR off of my brothers old FRST so will try that. Ive also got a new ACT sensor so I will work my round and see whats what.
Just hope I can get to the bottom of this. One question which ive also been asking myself is, the car still has a escos fuel pump fitted, you dont think theres anyway this is causing such issues?
Gareth

unsure tbh mate, the FRP should regulate the pressure from the pump to whats needed for the engine, but the cossie pump is pumping more fuel but should still regulate it, so i would have to say no, but i could be wrong.
i hope not though, i will be leaving the cossie pump in my rs when i go back to standard power

That's a cracking car for what you're asking for it - a nice, honest FRST that has been used as intended but also cherished too. I hope the sale goes well and that, like you asked, it goes to a fellow enthusiast

Re: My fiesta rs turbo. The end.
It was a case of needs must. I have just bought a house and had to borrow some cash for a deposit. The car had to go to pay back that cash.
Its in good hands though, the chap is in his 30's and is a collecter. He said it will be lucky if it comes out the garage twice a year. So basically it will have the same life with the new owner as it did with me.
Look out for it in a few years time though when they will be even rarer than they are now, at least this one will still be in very good order.
Gareth.
Gareth.
