wouldnt have bought the 3/8 drive sockets myself

i did this job myself about 2 weeks ago, my bushes come out easy with a hammer, and my flo flex bushes were the same, took some coersion to fit, perks of a polybush ;)

oh btw, the design of the beam doesnt pivot, its a semi trailing torsion beam to be arsey :P

Re: MY fiesta si - momentarily shafted

Postby ben17southport on Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:01 am

Haven't updated on here in a while so i'll just let ya'll know what the 'situation' is.

ignition barrel is bummed... had keys cut to see if it was them (then again it could still be if they weren't done properly) but i'm putting it down to the barrel. was going to remove the barrel to get it rebuilt but i can't get it to the first click to remove...

so, i'm away for 2 weeks then when i return i will be bashing the f*ck out of the barrel to remove it and buying a whole new lock set/ignition barrel and keys so i can just swap over the chips and bobs your uncle.

if there's anything i'm missing i would appreciate it if someone could point it out thanks!

Postby ben17southport on Wed Aug 15, 2012 4:59 pm

right chaps. been a while since i last updated so ill keep it brief.

ended up drilling the ignition barrel out and replacing it with my new genuine item and it worked a treat. ran beautifully considering it had gone 2 months without being started.

i am now in the position where she is off the road for the 2.0l to go in!

temporary home...
Image

my gearbox is at gears.tv atm getting rebuilt, checked and the du bearing replaced along with all the seals and gaskets.

i've have my rs2000's refurbed...
Image
Image

so i'm currently getting my rs2k calipers broken down to get them shotblasted and powder coated and awaiting my coilovers to be re thread.

so watch this space...

to end, a picture i took when i went camping the day before it came off the road...

thanks, Ben

right chaps, got a call of Andy yesterday at gears about the box. he said it'd be better to come in so he could show me so off i went this morning.

Image

if you look closely, the bearing in the middle is too low, basically its been boared out too deep for a newer bearing so it will end up starving it of oil.

so it's getting a full rebuild now

You could IB5 it.

Or even MTX75 it if you know a welder and get some drive shafts sorted.

Postby ben17southport on Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:51 pm

thanks lou. glad you appreciate my hard work and wallet :)

yeah dalsy, im hoping its a minter when i finally finish her and get to drive her!

well today i finally got the engine out! was a very nerve racking experience. because of the confined space i had, me and my dad simply dragged the engine from underneath when the car was up in the air to save pissing around :)
the journey from the shed to the carport!
Image
the situation
Image
once i had it out it was ready to go and get my new rebuilt box
Image
andy at gears.tv has done a great job by the looks of it! will be getting a new lick of paint :)

so yeah. now its just a clean up, get the new loom in a work my way up.

managed to get the pistons out of the calipers so they will be getting a refurb soon :)

thanks. Ben

good work, biting the bullet is a daunting thing for most, first time dropping an engine?

why wouldnt an iB5 not suit your power? they mostly deal with 115bhp 1.8 escorts lol

so which engine is going in? 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0?

You really need to read Jony.

He didn't say an ib5 wouldn't suit his power, he said for the power he will have, an mtx75 isnt needed.

2.0 engine going in as stated a couple of replies ago too.

ib5's are stronger than the bc boxes Jony so why are you being a plank? he's just stated he's had it rebuilt by G.E.A.R.S which incase you didn't know is a very reputable company that know their s**t, if theyv told him
it will handle that, it will handle that

you should start reading the thread before you post on it...

someones being hairy over a misunderstanding again

ive heard of a BC box handling more than 190bhp, all im saying
and ofcourse a iB5 is an upgrade, they have stronger web designs on the box casings, i just didnt READ the MTX 75 part... relax lol

Thank You smidy. seems like everyone is saving me the job of going through stuff here :P

was certainly a challenge but yes i hope you're right about it going in easier!

hopefully get some engine parts painted today but there wont be any major updates till next week!

thanks so far everyone.

and jony, the box before i had it i was told could handle 200bhp.Andy suggested its around 185bhp but im guessing thats as a precaution! i wont be going anywhere near those figures anyway so i dont need to worry :)

Re: MY fiesta si - little update

Postby ben17southport on Mon Sep 10, 2012 9:27 am

chaps, put the engine on blocks yesterday to paint the sump and begin swapping the alt brackets over...
Image

and also gave the gearbox a fresh lick of paint
Image

also got a 4 branch ashley manifold and full ashley system with it. getting the standard 1.6 downpipe for the future as i know the issues that come with ashley manifolds (it hasn't been fitted on a car before btw).
tomorrow ill be painting the engine bay. sending off the calipers to get all the pistons, seals etc replaced and to have them shot blasted.

any commments welcome. ben

Re: MY fiesta si - Update 20/09/12

Postby ben17southport on Thu Sep 20, 2012 2:08 pm

Right chaps, bit of an update...

braided lines arrived today
Image

flywheel
Image

aux belt fitted
Image
(the pas pipe will be bent to fit correctly, it must have been deformed in transit!)

new alternator next among the crap
Image

mondeo servo in
Image

comparison in size
Image

also, after much delegation, i decided to swap the 1.4si piping with the 1.6si piping at the steering rack. thanks to Mark for advising me to swap the piping, didnt seem to difficult in the end, hence why i did it.

will update when my clutch alignment tool arrives! just need bolts for the side engine mount and ill be ready to get it in.

new oil filter on
Image
side mount mocked up (had to grind a bolt off that had a nut attached within the chassis.
Image

next bit is the wiring to the alt.
new alt
Image

alt off the 1.4
Image

second pic isnt very clear but there is different terminals for the wiring. i will go through my new loom to see where the cable is but im guessing it will be completely different hence the different terminations on the new one?

the ho inlet came with the fuel rail but not the plastic black bit with the wiring (not sure on the name), i know its a long shot but will i be able to use the one off the 1.4 inlet?
Image

Also a massive thanks to Awol for providing the bolts i need for the inlet. nice one buddy!

and one final one for the record ;)
Image

calipers are also off at bigg reds getting shot blasted, painted along with seals and pistons so should get them back soon!

comments welcome guys, thanks

clutch alignment tool?! just use a ratchet handle end or something similar

take care bending that pas pipe back over the rocker cover, they snap very easily, ive had to replace mine before from moving it very little

and your flywheel could do with a skim, loads of heat spots on it :oooh:

coming along VERY well mate, how you coping so far without your car? :P

keep it up wont be long now and you'll be enjoying a very fun fast ford :)

you carry lips sticks do ya mate :oooh: :bonkers:   just kidding.

na cant f**k it up fella, just dont put tape on the very end to locate it in the flywheel nice and snug, other wise you wont pull the fcuker out as the hole in the flywheel is bigger than the spines on the clutch plate
yes i made that mistake way back in the day and had to take the clutch off again to get it out
