yes mate I sold my RS2K 4X4 to a RS car collector up north and I fancied a bit of fun hence buying this, so I have started to get to work finishing off this frst as the exterior was done as was the internal engine bits but the engine bay as well as some other small issues need sorting to make this a into a very good car

Max M4X WW :Looks nice, is the plate yours?

it is my plate just not registered to this car as was purely for photos,

this car had a long list of gremlins and things to do, so far I have colour coded mirrors and door handles and just fitted them, and also fitted a focus antenna and fixed the alarm, then sorted out some wiring and fitted the under bonnet vent covers from auto specialists , and tonight im picking up some more urgent bits from the Middlesex meet ,

the only thing Im now looking for is a Drivers door card

been cleaning up the engine bay the last day or two getting rid of all the grime, took the OE ford breather off today and it was solid with mayo, so fitted the bailey one on and had a play with a Dv I was given by a mate from Surrey Group, just need to sort my idle out as its high do a oil change and fit my vibra technic gearbox mounts once it warms up a tad

well tiny update, when I test drove the car I noticed within seconds loud heavy clonking between the gears which felt like a mount, told the owner who told me he did not notice it, so I bought some vibra technics ones and as it was dry but ruddy cold yesterday I set about changing them, just started to drop the gearbox cradle when look what fell out

Image

did not notice it he said :-? , my ass I say :oooh:

I can assure you that while I had that car the maintenance was spot on. It still had the original cam in it when I had it and never had any issues. I sold it 2 years ago so can't comment on what went on afterwards. That car never burnt a drop of oil or used a drop of water in my ownership. It was serviced every 3k or 6 months so I was a bit shocked when I saw it had a head overhaul, although its common knowledge that cvh cams are notorious for wearing lobes. Id say that for a standard cam with no history of ever being changed and lasting 21 years is bloody good. Can't see poor maintenance being the cause of that. Although as I said I can't comment on the last 2 years.

At least its now with someone that will continue with its upkeep. :-)

I know you looked after it as I even found a thread with you getting stuck in to it, in its recent past lets say the oil was proper filthy and fouled/black with blocked and broken breather which was solid thick with mayo, had the wrong plugs fitted in it and as you know its important to keep the oil fresh and filters clear which is no doubt what has ruined the cam and followers, gearbox mount totally snapped central locking broke as well as 2 foglights and a rear window wiper toggle switch was a surprise, the body is fine as is the suspension and brakes but I would say whoever had it in the recent past did sod all to it other than drive it and neglect its mechanical maintainance, so £400 in parts later all thats left to do now is a cam and followers and have it set up properly which will no doubt be another £400 so this car will stand in £3500 and be the car I had hoped for, rather than a car full of bugs which the previous owner nick told me NOTHING of which was nice of him = NOT :( ,

rsturbonutter :How can you say poor maintenance

never judge a book by its cover

Note, car is now sold to a good mate and he is on here too as Ford-Stu
