My FRST SOLD !
Well, I have been after this car for nearly 7 years and finally a month or so ago the owner decided to part with it,
87k from new, All original paint, absolutely mint seats, 2 owners from new.
The car was last on the road October 03, but has been stored very well since then.
Plans;
Hopefully going to go standard concours, but it will be at least 2 years before this happens
The original engine and box are not in the car but I got them as part of the deal so they will be both rebuilt.
Total restore of the underside and engine bay, I'd like to keep the original paint so atm no plans for a respray.
This really is a long term project so it may be a few weeks/months between updates.
First thing today was to collect the car and bring it back to my local Ford bodyshop for a once over.
I know that the upper part of the sill under the door seal needs very minor work, the driver side is mint.
I removed the insulation tape that was covering the green stripes and rear ford badge as it was the wrong one.
A few blurry pictures but you get the idea.
Mint original fuel cap area
The paintwork is amazing
Driver's seat
I have lots of new parts to go on the car, I want to get it as close to standard as possible.
I'll get some better pictures when I go back down on Monday.

Re: My new FRST, Concours project.
So, I've been down to the bodyshop today and had the car in the air for the first time.
Thankfully no nasty surprises, the underside due to my plans will be subject to a complete refurb, atm, I'm planning on doing it as Ford did, so no seam sealer and very little underseal
I do need a new bonnet, the one on there is good but the underside lip is rusting and really beyond repair to the standard I want.
It is also fitted with a full Bilstein suspension, again, this will be sold and I need to sorce and standard suspension set up.
Exhaust, currently turbo back Magnex, again replaced with a genuine Ford one (I know these are ultra rare but I'm hopeful I can find one).
Bodywork, generally very good, but there are several dents which I'm confident a good dent man can get out, there is one spot of rust on the drivers door about 3mm across, possibly a stone chip which will need to be sorted. overall the bodywork is very good/excellent. I'm thinking I'll leave it as it is and see what points I loose when it's finally entered into Concours, if it's too many I will have to have it resprayed.
Engine bay, lots of work here to do, I've seen how much work Eddie had to do on his and this is exactly the same.
ABS, I actually thought it didn't come with this option, but it did , my plans atm is to dump this and replace the brake lines etc etc. as I know how much trouble and complicated they are.
more updates soon

Re: My new FRST, Concours project
Cheers Dave, I managed to take some better pictures today.
a lot of work to do here, but it does have the original ignition leads
The last time it was on the road
The rear arches do look very good but I'm going to have to remove the kit, I got a feeling this will end in a full respray
small amount of corrosion in the driver's side rear arch
Plenty of work on the underside needed as well

I think standard restored (or unrestored) examples will be the ones in the near future that make good money.
I need to do more research on the acid dipping, there is a place in Dudley, West Midlands that do the process.

Re: My new FRST, Concours project
If you look on png (performance nova group) there is a guy from
Northern Ireland called Keith Robinson, who built a Nova turbo but got the shell dipped and then coated in dome mad rust proof coating etc. He shipped his car from NI to England (Newcastle Upon Tyne rings a bell) and them shipped it back.
Might be worth finding the thread to find out the name and location of the place who done it. The nova is absolutely superb!
Edit: there is the link to the build thread:

Edit #2: Its the place in Dudley that you spoke about

Re: My new FRST, Concours project.
Wow that is a lovely example. Did you know the previous owner or knew of the car and were waiting to leap on it if it ever came up for sale?
I know this is a concours project, but I had to laugh at these lines, They are almost like the exact opposite of every other project!
High quality uprated suspension........ Replace for standard components
Uprated exhaust system........ Replace for stand components
I'll be keeping an eye on this one

Yes and yes
I tried to tempt him a few years ago before I bought H196 JNE, but he didn't want to sell,
then I heard through another mate (who has a mint unrestored Mercury FRST) that he was thinking of selling, so I gave him a ring, popped down to see him and a deal was done.
Not much to report atm, the car is still down the body shop (I've told them not hurry on the minor work being done)
I'm now on the hunt for a small workshop where I can fully strip the car and get to work on the resto.
Lots of new parts are being sourced, the list is endless

Cheers Rob, it's going to be a long hard slog to find all the parts I need,
I can't believe how much harder it is now to find stuff compared with 4 or 5 years ago, everything is getting rarer and rarer.
